A nuclear deterrent on the bench doesn't do a damn thing to stop Wiese from elbowing Hall in the head, and does less than that to stop Kassian from breaking Gagner's jaw with a high stick. Can't waste a hockey team's roster spot on a guy who can't (you know) play hockey. I've liked a lot of what MacTavish has done since taking the GM job from Steve Tambellini, but when you have one NHL center (Gordon), have converted your best player to the middle from LW (Hall), and then have a bunch of minor leaguers bringing up the rear, you have bigger fish to fry than picking up a goon that can't play a lick.
