Whatever.

Nylander > Tierney

No contest here.  Nylander is easily in the top-15 for NHL prospects.  He wins this one.

Mueller > Finn

Finn has struggled to adapt to the pro game a bit, so Mueller squeaks this one out.......barely.

Brown > Goldobin

Brown is another in the NHL's top-50.  128 points in 68 games in the OHL his last year, and led the Marlies in scoring this year......He blows your guy away.

Donskoi = Leivo

Not much of difference here.  Two fairly average prospects.  At least Leivo has some NHL experience.

Gauthier > Chartier

Gauthier has already played for Team Canada in the Jr's and is dominating the Q, as a shut-down Centre.  A man among boys.

.... (piiiiiissssss)

There.  You happy?

:)

Just saving for posterity since we said we would revisit it as the kids grow up :)

@J0e Th0rnton  I would have pitted Stuart Percy against Mueller...and I think Mueller is ahead right now, but ultimately Percy will be the best player of the two. I don't think Finn skates well enough to make an impact in the NHL.

I wanted him to be able to win at least ONE matchup.

@Holymakinaw

heh. Well, he chose the prospects from his pool to match against mine, so I just assume he knows who is who in his teams farm.

I was surprised he chose a defensive specialist like Gauthier to be honest, who will never be more than a 3rd or 4th liner.

I know how much you love Tierney Jammer and how above his ranking you think he is. You must have been elated he ended the season with the sharks strong on that line with Hertl after spending most of the year stuck with Goodrow and John Scott up and down from Worchester. 4 goals and 6 assists and promotion to the 2nd PP unit when the team was fighting to make the playoffs and an increase in icetime from 7-12 minutes at the start of the season to 14-16 minutes in the last stretch. Coach TMac was kicking himself for not seeing Tierney's true worth earlier in the season and playing him with more skilled linemates than Goodrow/Scott.

Yeah, he has serious upside, don't know why the Sharks could not see his value earlier.....perhaps something else besides talent level held him back, conditioning....attitude, that kinda thing...no sure.

He was being played 8 minutes a game on the 4th line with a juggling of John Scott, Mike Brown, Eric Desjardins, Adam Burish, Tye McGinn and Broccoli Goodrow at the start of the season. Not many people can do much offensively with that crew. Tierney's biggest strength from what I saw is his playmaking vision. It is unreal. But with those linemates, vision is pretty worthless lol

They were fluctuating who to play with Jumbo Joe and Pavs (Wingels, Hertl) before eventually settling on rookie Karlsson for his forechecking skill. The Marleau/Couture line usually had Nieto. Leaving Sheppard as 3rd line center with parts of what was left of Kennedy, Burish, etc

Bottom 6 was a hot mess most of the season.

I don't really blame TMac. Wilson shoved a ridiculous amount of rookies at him this season. Karlsson, Tierney, Mueller, Goodrow, Tennyson, Mcginn.......and a few second year cats like Hertl and Nieto. It is a miracle we almost made the playoffs to be honest. Especially with that horrid Hannan/Irwin duo, Niemi in net and playing poor rookie Mueller top 4 dman minutes with a maverick partner to cover for like Brent Burns. But with Hannan and Irwin as the only other two left side Dman options before the Demers for Dillon trade, can't really blame him either.

Once Hertl was demoted to 3rd line and Tierney was given a shot at 3rd line center, the chemistry was instant. No matter who played RW, be it Wingels or Nieto. But Tierney was the catalyst of that line.

@J0e Th0rnton   I think most people thought Hertl was going to have a break out year, but failed to deliver. Was this just a blip on the road to a long successful career, or the start of a decline that might make him an after thought. To me, the talent is undeniable....but that in of itself, is no guarantee of a long career.

I thought Ninja was fine this year. Yeah he was not scoring as much. He was recovering from a serious knee injury and got less offensive time, but he really bulked up over summer, putting on 20 pounds and did not get knocked off the puck as easily. Mostly, he played with Sheppard on the 3rd line as winger until Tierney took over that role. But Hertl looks best when he was given time as center.

TMac continually swapped him up and down the lineup, not letting him get chemistry built with anyone. His best games came with Tierney. They just seemed to click. but Tierney looked comfortable with any combination of Nieto, Wingels and Hertl as his wingers.

The Thornton/Pavelski line works best when they have a hard working forechecker. That's why Pavelski/Thornton/Burns was so damned effective. but Karlsson filled the role well, going to the corners then driving the net. With Marleau/Couture, they tended to swap Nieto, Wingels and Kennedy in the RW spot. Hertl did take some shifts with them.

One thing Oiler fans will hate is what we call TMac's line blender. When things are not going his way, he starts juggling lines like mad, even when they are generating chances and winning matchups and possession. It kind of messes with rookies and young players to continually swap linemates.

Hertl scored less, but looked better than his rookie year in every other area. Strange as it sounds.

Hey that happens, and honestly, that bodes well for his future, cause I know the points will come.
