Kahkonen earns a win but his performance wasn't convincing enough? But hey, that's only good!

Now they can immediately replace Dubnyk with Kahkonen. The level of play stays the same however now the Wild saves almost $4 mil. a year. And Robson gets to play more in the minors. It's a win-win! :DancingGrape:

And where is Dubnyk going to go? He has a modified NTC for this season and the next. And the team is not going to sit a $4M goaltender in the press box.

Kahkonen goes back to Iowa since he was on emergency loan. If Boudreau is smart, he uses a 1A/1B goaltending scheme. No more 3, 4, 5 games in a row for Dubnyk. Rotate Stalock and Dubnyk until one of them shows they can win on a consistent basis.

@IllaZilla is 100% correct.  Great, Kahkonen got his NHL cup of coffee, but he's going to get sent back down.  The real question is whether we'll see Stalock and Dubnyk used in more of a rotation or will we try to force a bunch of starts on Dubnyk in the dim hope he turns it around?

4 million is a lot money for an aging goalie. A trade would have to be sweetened in ways we would probably not like too much.

Actually, Dubnyk’s cap hit is pretty reasonable. Fletcher probably didn’t need to sign him to a six year deal though. But at the time he signed his extension (2015) he was one of the top goaltenders in the league. It could be worse. The Wild could have Jimmy Howard ($5.2M/6 yrs), Martin Jones ($5.75M/6 yrs) or Mike Smith  ($5.7M/6yrs).

I thought my sarcasm was transparent especially with that goofy smiley added... 😏

Well, I seemed to have fooled the two of you.

No he wasn't. Dealt from Edmonton for friggin Matt Hendricks, neglected by Nashville and Arizona, but had a nice run of 40 games, a fluke basically, that earned him his current contract.

Next year he was back to being 30th in SV%. An average goalie who has benefited from a well balanced D in front of him. Now that he's aging the amount of unforced errors is increasing heavily.

If the Wild are lucky and/or Guerin is apt, they trade him at the deadline labelled as All-Star Goalie Last Year.
