Laughton does little to stand out in Flyers' loss

Wow, what a joke. Keep a team there that nobody appreciates or wants to see because of a couple of reasons...
1. Florida isn't exactly hockey crazy...
2. The Panthers don't have the talent to draw in people to come watch them play, they are near the bottom every year
3. Tampa Bay is way more popular of a team than Florida
The least time the Panthers ever saw anything spectacular was when John Vanbiesbrouck was between the pipes. The Panthers are a giant dud. Take hockey back to Quebec at least there was a team there that people actually wanted to see.
4) It doesn't get cold enough outside to have ice
-
They report a 99.7% filled attendance.
If the Islanders sellout every game at the Barclays Center, they would still average about 1,500 less than the Panthers claim to. Just like Edmonton and Winnipeg do when they sell out every game.
I know people question those attendance figures, but if the league is using fictitious numbers to justify keeping a team there, there's nothing that will make them move it.
They might sellout every game, but hardly ever anyone there cheering for Florida. Its all snowbirds. Ever notice that the away team gets more cheers and has more fans???

could be an ugly game tonight with that paper thin lineup.

I've found the entire pre-season a complete BORE. The 3 games I watched were painfully slow and I was thinking to myself "Oh man, Please don't let the 1`st half of the season be like this......AGAIN....."
Prove me wrong Fly Guys!
the pre-season was not very exciting. I usually watch every game, but this year I haven't cared a whole lot so far.
-
I've heard all the cliche's about this topic, and not just as it relates to the Flyers. "They are professionals, they should be ready to play", "Players play, coaches coach". Then I've heard coaches say, "It's our job to prepare the team. We need to be better prepared, etc"
In the Flyers case, it's been a continuing issue for several years. Because of that, I think this issue falls on the coaching staff. Whatever the true reason(s) are, if the same thing happens over/over/over, and coaches don't correct it, that's on them.
@dgg
So that could be another nail in the coffin for lavy if he was ever to be fired.

Not sure if its truly a deficit in motivation. These guys wanna win.
I can relate. I know when I play, I usually stink for the 1st 20 mins or so, before I get my head out of my ass. But I usually atone for my mistakes by the end of the game. Its not that I'm not motivated, just that it takes some time for me to get the 'bone head' plays out of my system and get the feel of the game before I start to perform well.
Granted, were I a professional, with a coach, perhaps there are preparations that could get me going right off the bat. Perhaps its more that they need better 'direction' for their motivation at the start of games? (Maybe I've modeled my game from watching too much Flyers lately?
Given that these are professionals and the $$ they are making, motivation should not be a problem. I don't think they got into the nhl by being a lazyass.

What's the hold-up? Get rid of that contract ASAP!
Maybe homer is asking to much for him. He might have to let him go cheap like with gagne to tampa, just to clear up the cap space.
-
@Leach27 "What do you think the problem is here??"
Tons of variables....a bad group that does not care? Lack of conditioning? Lack of proper motivation? Players throwing the coach under the bus? I don't really know the answer, only that it's an ongoing problem.
@jammer2.
I think out the variables you mention "proper motivation" stands out to me.

Flyers need to stop this trend of coming out with no energy in the 1st period. This was a huge problem last year and was one the reasons, that we lost so many games. In the 1st pre-season game we were flat vs toronto in the 1st and went down 3 goals and failed to "storm" back. The game tues vs nj they were flat in the 1st and outshot 11-4, painful to watch. What do you think the problem is here??
-
Not going "anywhere" that's an understatement.

Sabres are bottom four this season. Especially if they fight everyone that gets in the way. Relax in the bluster Junkie... The Sabres aren't some bruising intimidating lineup. They just need to play hockey!
Play hockey just like the pens and flyers did in 2012!

Problem is our GM has not really handed Lavi the tools he needs to be completely successful. The style of game he plays requires defenders that can effectively move the puck. Also, it doesn't help that his forward crop is log jammed with centers.
Now onto the other end of the coin. Lavy is a stubborn coach. He played Bryzgalov until he basically fell apart. Not saying that if Leighton would have been placed in for a few games it would be any better. He also refused to address issues with key players that were clearly under performing.
My take he should get another full season. The reality of it in Flyer-land, he has a 10 game try out.
Sad but true. I wish the GM was on the same hot seat.
Agreed. After all the roster moves, they are not going to wait long for lavy. 10 - 20 games, they probably already have a plan in place.

I would peg Byrz more of a Lowes man myself...
Seems you were right!!

Several unnamed and unotable sources say that Bryz was in Pittsburgh last night...
Maybe he was applying for a job at the home depot??
-
Thanks for clearing that all up while I was sleeping. I'm thinking @Leach27 just missed the numerous posts since the Kings won that said the same thing.
Are all Philly journalists like this? This article and many others there have been topics about seem to go with a short statement of facts, then add a lot more to the story in pure storytelling or "what if" style. Do they all try to make something out of nothing?
@polariss922
Yes thats true. I wasn't on here for almost a year. Anyway in all seriousness I hope Vokoun is ok.

@Laech27
Thanks for the memory! (Or at least the reminder thereof.)
no problem!! You ever seen Tim Kerr dvd - "Fighting back"?

Kessel was put in that position by Carlyle, reason he did not think scott would start anything with the kessel line. Kessel is taking chances when he starts swinging his stick for sure. Kessel did the same thing to Schenn and Holmstrom in another pre-season game

Yes. I'm really not sure what the disconnect is here with the english, but what I said is exactly what his statement indicates if one isn't completely new here.
As with other Flyer castoffs (a reference to what I statement), it almost guarantees WE (Penguins since he's a Pens' fan and since we're talking about Bryz--a Flyers castoff--going there) win the Cup.
It was a throw away reference to a large number of Flyers fans ON THIS BOARD who make this statement/exaggeration on a weekly basis. No one said YOU make the statement, but i really don't see the confusion here unless you're just trying to troll his post.
He brought up the comments 1st about the flyers, not me. Maybe if your friend could say what he actually meant in the 1st place then you would not have to spend time clarifying.
-
All he was saying is Flyers cast players off. Said players win cups. It's an exaggeration, obviously, but one we Flyers fans typically use ourselves.
I don't use that exaggeration
Not correct this is what he posted "As with other Flyer castoffs it almost guarantees we win the Cup! Lol"
we as in "his" favorite team the pens, not some other team Instead of we maybe he should have typed "guarantees a Cup win! lol".
But given that statement many players over the years have been traded and won the cup, roy, bourque,ect, ect. I don't have time to look them all up right now.

Here is the video folks: lots to watch hard to describe. It really doesn't state what was the initial cause. ??
http://video.tsn.ca/?dl=pipe42/latest/1/0/1008937/clip/0
Clarkson will get a 10 game suspension for leaving the bench.
John Scott goes after Kessel and he retaliates with deliberate slashes. Suspension?
Bernier got some good shots in on Miller.
This is a perfect example of why the league wants to keep helmets on during fights.
I saw the game there was a fight just before that and the buffalo player got thrown to the ice, looked like he hit his head on the ice, that is what seemed to set scott off.

Another season with crappy goaltending
in Philadelphia Flyers

"Goaltending, on the cheap, again"
we want to spend on goalies, we don't want them to spend. Which way is it???
