A month until the trade deadline which comes up March 3rd. A lot can change between now and then but there is a big problem, the opposite of last years and several recent seasons as well. Too many teams are still in it.

Last eason literally before US Thanksgiving, all eight Eastern Conference spots were wrapped up and there were at most four teams fighting for the final three spots in the West.  In short there were about fourteeen potential sellers as the deadline aproached.

This year 12 teams in the East and 10 in the West are still fighting for playoff spots, leaving 10 teams who could legit be considered sellers. in short there are more buyers than in recent years, and less sellers. It will be a sellers' market.

These are imho the top names to look to be moved with an unusually high number of buyers....

ANAHEIM Would love to move Gibson but not likely to happen. Stolarz could and will be a solid value backup get. Shattenkirk and Klingberg are UFAs who the ducks will have to eat salary to move.

SHARKS Timo Meier is the hot name out there although he is a RFA at years end and the Sharks do not have to deal him unless they are overwhelmed. Bonino is a fantastic 3C who plays playoff style hockey. Again, it is a buyers market with goalies but Reimer could be insurance for a team whose goalies are iffy. The Kraken are rumored to be interested with dumping the overpriced Grubauer along with picks going the other way.

CANUCKS Would dearly love to move Boeser but has a bloated contract and term, he will not get much of a return and the Canucks will have to eat salary. Schenn is a huge piece, signed to a cheap deal, folks who are fighting the cap will give up a second and possibly a first for him. Supposedly Demko may be on the market but not sure if that is true. Again, it is a buys market on goalies and sellers elsewehre so it might be really really dumb even by Canucks standards to look to move him right now.

BLUES are sinking fast, more or less out of it. O'Reilly has expressed interest in staying but has no clause allowing him to control movement so if healthy by the deadline is a goner unless he signs a two or three year deal with a hometown discount to remain. The Leafs supposedly have him as their primary add. Taresenko is an ufa but has a full no movement deal so he controls his destiny. Supposedly he wants to play with Panarin and rumors of Taresenko/Lafanierre are out there.Barbashev will fetch a third rounder,  Greiss joins a crowded field of goalies.

COYOTES They are loaded up with draft picks and want more, they are rebuilding the right way and will move Bjugstad who the Oilers have expressed interest in. Vjmelka joins a growing list of goalies, intriguing as he has 2 years at less than 3 million per on his deal. Ghost is the top puck moving d-man available. Really a lot of vets on chea deals who someone might want as a 6th defender or 12th forward for picks which the 'Yotes covet.

BLACKHAWKS huge names here. Toews and Kane on their final year of their deal, Toews to the Bruins rumored, Kane to the Rangers if they miss on Taresenko. An intriguing one is Seth Jones who the Hawks would have to eat a lot of alary but rumor is they are open to doing whatever it takes to move on. Athanasiou and especially Domi will bring a decent return. They already have 6 picks in the first three rounds, they may reach double digits by the draft.

JACKETS   Matthieu Olivier is a depth piece who will come cheap. the Jackets want a 2nd for Gavrikov and in the small amount of sellers will get it. Korpisalo joins the huge rank of goalies. Texier went home to France and his days in  columbus are over, he might be a sneaky good add for a team.

FLYERS not a lot to throw out there, Braun for a 4th rounder maybe? JVR a n UFA but his contract is hard to move, not a value add for someone but forwards are thin so he might command a bit of interest,

REDWINGS lots of players here, Larkin is an UFA but has a no move deal and wants to sign. If not he might be persuaded to move on.  Bertuzzi has shot hisself in the foot with a dreadful year but has no protection in his deal and can be traded and will. Calgary rumored to be interested. Maata and Wallman having good years, defense is gonna be hard to get both will draw interest. Erne, Suter and Sundqvist all will draw interest and should draw mid level picks unless they resign.

CANADIENS Monahan rumored to be going to the Avalanche for a third. Dadonov having a wretched year but might be moved for a low level pick.

That is it, some intersting names out there but not enough for the teams in need of a boost. Of course Ottawa may decide they are sellers not much here if so, Motta and Hamonic is about it. Florida is on the cusp, if they fall out of the race they are rumored to be willing to moveon from Reinhart and possibly even Bennett and Gudas, but it is more likely, especially in Floridas case that they will wait until the offseason to make moves.

So not a ton of sellers for the amount of buyers. Too many goalies, nowhere near the defenseman that are needed, buyers will overpay.

The coyotes.  Rebuilding the right way for over a decade lol

They have a 24 year old hot defenseman in chychrun and want to sell him for picks.

    It's like an endless cycle

Big trade fellas. Big names going both ways.

    Akof gets draisatl and flower

@ruxpin gets vanacek, guentzel and Scheifelle. Wow

Hey I just realized draisatl and flower were his gets in our big deal three weeks ago so rux, your trade turned into

    Scheifelle, vanacek and guentzel

    For

    shester, Aho, Bennett and provorov.

Goalies I get slight edge, main centers a wash so provorov/Bennett for Jake is the last part.

As for akof I think he will discover as the rest of us have that flower owns just a tad over half the net on a medium good team so big loss in net. Draisatl is a monster, I love the two forwards he gave up but would deal him for them any day. Still I give a slight edge to rux because vanacek is the better goalie by a mile right now.

Basically it's almost a 3 team trade akof gets the best player, I get the depth and rux gets damn good talent including a couple of his favorite players. Win win win

I like the deal for Rux more due to goaltending being so thin in a 16 team league.

Essentially Forwards get 12 categories to goalies 6 categories. So 3 or so goalies count for 33% of the categories every week. Often you will need to sub in a backup here and there if your week starts bad. Draisaitl is so good he basically counts as 2 skaters. If you carry 3 goalies you also carry 14 skaters, so being so good you count as 2 has diminishing returns. Guentzel and Scheifele are both solid above average skaters.

If vanecek regresses then it will be more even.

But Swayman/Talbot/Fleury isn't bad. There are worse trios in this league.

It's official...done deal...Boudreau and his cherry trees out.... Tocchet and his gila monsters in...

Boudreau fired as Canucks coach, replaced by Tocchet (nhl.com)

According to this article, the players seem to agree they liked playing for him, but the W-L record was what did the team and the coach in.
Brought in to assist Tocchet is Adame Foote as an assistant coach, and Sergei Gonchar as 'defensive development' coach.
I could be wrong, but wasn't Gonchar more of an offensive type player? How is he the defensive development coach?

Adam Foote was as hard nosed as Tocchet, and I can see them trying to instill that in the Canucks...BUT, once again, THEY DON'T SEEM TO HAVE THE RIGHT PERSONNEL to play that style at the moment, outside of two or three guys.

And those two or three guys may not even be there if Vancouver decided to go ahead and turn the roster over while they are turning the coaching wheels over.

This gal here may need a new team to bandwagon if they break up the reasons I started following them about three seasons back.
Buffalo or New Jersey here I come? Or maybe Edmonton....could be. ;)

But yea.... Boudreau out, Tocchet in.... at 68, this could have been Boudreau's last shot behind the bench.
If he can come to terms with it (maybe after taking some time off), I still say he'd make a great NHL analyst if he wanted to go back to doing that.
Lots of 'dry' analysts out there, he was always pretty entertaining and informative (and didn't seem to follow a script) whenever I've listened to him break down players and teams during segments.

Lol. Gonchar as defensive coach is a bit like Micheal Hayes as a wrestling agent.

As Chris jericho once said "hayes loved suggesting dangerous crazy high spots he would have NEVER done himself in his fabulous freebird wrestling days."

Gonchar never knew the defensive end of the ice. Why is he coaching defense?

  4. Trade between myself and Yave.

Putting on the Foil receives Claude Giroux and Pavel Francouz

Sharknado receives Evander Kane and Jordan Kyrou.

I loathe Evander Kane as only a Sharks(Or Buffalo, or Winnipeg) fan can. But the man in a banger league is top notch because he does nothing but shoot and hit and take stupid penalties. He plays on McDavid's Powerplay and hovers near a PPG. Since he was on Yave's IR, yave won't even feel the loss and gets Giroux and handcuffs the Avalanche tandem. I had 3 guys with C/RW with the waiver pickup of Compher, so why not?

Carrying 4 goalies tends to meddle with stat compiling

Yeah, Ovie will never pass Gretzky.  And it's only partly because of that post.  :)

Lol. Unless he suddenly has a career ending Injury, he's breaking that record.

He still plays like a young man. He's still scoring 40 goals + a season. This season is only half done and he has 29 goals. Assuming he scores 20 more in the next 40 games, he is 68 goals away from the record. That's 3 seasons of scoring 23 goals.

I gotta admit, I felt bad for those Czech kids after fighting their way back into it. If you asked them at the start if they be happy to win silver I'd bet everyone of them would say ya, but they weren't feeling that last night. Good to see a different team in the final though. They played their hearts out all tournament so they should be proud of what they accomplished.

And Joe....for a week and a half you had the best job on the planet as far as I'm concerned!

The amount of grey hair I had certainly multiplied when the bronze game went into OT

10500 fans waiting outside,  we watched our window to clean the arena for the next crowd shrink from 30 minutes to 15. LOL

But yeah, if you look closely during the game winning goal you may see my team and i in the zamboni pit jump face first into the glass and start handslamming

Best event I ever worked easily. In 2003 I worked at a hotel the Russians were staying in and we had to serve them dinner as they celebrated.

After the score was tied it was starting to feel like 2003 again. But damn I got the happy ending this time

This kid is special, I hope the Flyers don't win another game all year. I want to see him in a Flyer uniform.

Should be a hell of a game Wendsday.

You want to see a creative offensive player learning the ropes under Tortorella?

Bedard is going to need major adjustments to his game at NHL level and Torts is exactly the kind of coach who would bench him for creativity. He can do it. His shot is beyond elite and his vision and passing are also elite. But he is 5 foot 9 and isn't going to be going through NHL level defenders like this right off the bat.

If he can land on PP1 for whatever team he lands on and get icetime, maybe 50-60 points his rookie season. I think its going to take a few years before he is elite and hope he can grow another inch or 2(Doubtful)

Yeah I wonder which club Uncle Buttman   is going to rig I mean work his magic to bless?

The Blackhawks have two aging stars I'm sure they're on his mind and their tank game is strong, Columbus says why not us too and Ducks saying hey wait we need help too.

I hope the Flyers didn't spend all their luck on Nolan Patrick they need some good luck with something.

Welcome to the Sharks Connor Bedard!

  9. If he tries to go through 3 people like this at NHL level, he will quickly get sandwiched. He will need to adjust that part of his game

Elite shot and vision. Some of the angles of his goals make me go "wtf?"

Big deal, sorta....ummm, yea, big deal trade in Sweet 16 between the Star Blades and the Hell Bears.
Alright people, settle down the shock of finding out Rux was coerced into doing a trade :shifty:

    Green Star Blades get:
    C- Brayden Point
    LW- Alex DeBrincat
    G- Frederik Andersen (IR)

    Hell Bears get:
    C/W- Brayden Schenn
    G- Connor Hellebuyck

Now, I know I said I wouldn't move Hell Boy, with good reason, but fact is, my entire goalie core is a wreck and even a Vezina candidate like Hellebuyck wasn't really helping that much.
At this point, willing to go with an army of backups, streamers, and net sharers, BUT, to help offset, attempting to build a powerful offense.
Goal scoring was pretty good before, adding Point and DeBrincat is my way of trying to make it even better.
Add in that I have players who are good in peripherals and I roll the dice that I lose most goalie categories most weeks, but clean up elsewhere.
I wouldn't make a move like this in a keeper league (Hell Boy, no brainer keeper, duh), but in a one year league, I feel I can take a shot at this....if it doesn't work, oh well, reset next season.

The Bears are obviously getting a stud workhorse goalie, so no explanation necessary there, while Brayden Schenn was a bit of an extra put in the deal.....he could be a big zero, or he could go on a streak...complete wild card.

    So there we are.
Hell Boy is now a Hell Bear........and my apologies in advance to Connor and his agent if he ends up getting injured now......completely NOT my fault, but I do understand if they get mad at me for trading him to Billy's Bears

Ugh. Giving up hellboy without getting Kochetkov back is going to hurt

I would agree with your take on this Howie, except that I fear that NO ONE would take that kind of contract/player in a trade!....Hence the buyout?... Which also doesn't make much sense cuz of the continued cap hit.

I guess that's why most on here have been saying that we're STUCK with Hayes..... another horrible albatross contract by the "powers that be"

Bury him in the minors?! ;)

Burying the teams top scorer when the entire farm is already up is kinda difficult lol

have Pietrangelo and  Gudas both out on defense, rotating waiver pickups for those two spots. willing to dangle Stutzle to add a damn good defenseman. Scoring nice but not mandatory, i care much more about shots/hits/pims. Only reason willing to dangle Stutzle is because I have Tkachuk from the same team playing the same position and need to balance out the roster.  Anyway, Stutzle for the right defenseman. Mostly because i am bored, lol

I actually legit thought I had 6 Dmen and I only have 4.

but I think I was saved in not trying to make an offer. Stuezle just took a big one

Just claimed by Seattle. Seattle a defense first, opportunistic offensive team, he is a perfect fit for the Kraken. Nice get. Again, has to be more to the story why he was waived out of Nashville.

He's more a top 6 skill set than bottom 6. He showed that 2 years ago when Forsberg was injured.

Not sure Seattle is a good fit for him for development as their wings are full.
