  1. Not the best game by the Hawks, but the Wings did what they had to do, and that was take advantage of the situation where the Hawks did not quite have it. Congrats to the Wings ...
  2. Yeah yeah yeah ... Now I have to put up with my Dad gloating until the Hawks meet the Wings again ... Seriously, though, it was a good game by the Wings, considering the injury issues they've had to deal with ...
  3. @yave1964 "As a Wings fan, I am hoping that the Hawks do not start Crawford tonight. Actually, I would like them to bypass Raanta as well, and maybe skip right past the injured Khabibulin. Looking their system through, I would like to see them bypass the netminders in the AHL and even the Toledo Walleye goalies as well." Sorry ... not happening! I do think Crow is due for a day off, though. It would be nice to see Pang in net for this one, though ... I wish I didn't have to work tomorow so I could stay up and watch all of this instead of having to DVR half of it and try my best to avoid the workplace score-spoilers.
  4. I'm really looking forward to this one! We have two Original Six teams matching up, and better yet, I get a chance to stick it to my family back in Michigan if the Hawks win (This is really what cell phones are for!)! The Hawks look to have edged out of their slide earlier this month with wins against Anaheim and Boston, while the Wings (as they seemingly have every season since 2008-09) have struggled with injuries throughout much of the season. So ... what will happen tomorrow night? My dad and I will make a bet on this game that when one of us visits the other and we eat out for dinner, the loser has to pay the tab. Will I get my fill, or get left with the bill? We will see ...
  5. @yave1964 It was indeed a good game for Rask. This game definitely had a playoff feel to it. Maybe a portent of things tp come? (Of course, the Hawks will have to get past St. Louis at some point in the playoffs.)
  6. @jammer2 "Hmmm, not bad, got the score right, just messed up the winner" That's fine ... I'll take it! It was certainly fun to watch ... just like a playoff game!
  7. @nossagog The Hawks had a great chance early on, starting OT on the power play, but couldn't do anything with it ... d'oh!
  8. The Hawks won in a 3-2 shootout, but I think this game was more even than that. I'm not a big fan of shootouts ... think NBA games being decided by free throws if a game is tied after regulation. It seemed like the Hawks. near the end of OT, were playing not to lose whereas the Bruins had a very good chance to win it before the game went to a shootout. Oh well ... a win is a win, so I will take it.
  9. @yave1964 That does sound like a 1970s-era game ...
  10. @nossagog "I wonder if he's apologized yet for the fights in the Anahiem game his team started while they were getting throttled, probably not." I wonder if he will pull an Alain Vigneault and say the Ducks were trying to run up the score ...
  11. That looked like something straight out of the 1970s. I saw some footage from that on the sports news here and I think the Chicago sportscasters will eat up any media tidbit having to do with Vancouver ...
  12. @jammer2 Hi jammer! I think that may still be a possibility. The teams are knotted up 1 apiece after one period, and this is no surprise considering both teams are nearly even. It has been a rather feisty game, but also well-played. Hossa had that great goal early in the game and the Hawks nearly scored again after that, but Marchand made a good move on Dunks and tied it up with only about 18 seconds left in the period.
  13. @hf101 It was good to see Crow have a good game since coming back from injury. I had earlier thought that perhaps he was not fully recovered. I think the Hawks needed to be on their best game to beat the Ducks ... Anaheim has become the best team that I never hear about.
  14. I am so looking forward to this ... Bruins vs. Hawks in a Cup Finals rematch. It will be one of those great 11:30AM starts! Even though the Bruins no longer have Tyler Seguin and Rich Peverly (to name a few). they still have Brad Marchand and Tukka Rask and have added Jarome Iginla (who declined a trade to the Bruins last year). Marian Hossa has come on as of late for the Hawks. I think if the Hawks can stay disciplined and try not to turn the puck over too much, we'll be fine. If we make a parade to the box, then we'll be in trouble.
  15. Hawks edge out Ducks 4-2 The Hawks ended their personal 5-game slide vs. Anaheim as well as Anaheim's 8-game wining streak. Marian Hossa scored twice in this game, which got rather close in the third period as the Ducks cut the Hawks' lead to 3-2. Next up: Bring on Boston! P.S.: Where is everyone? The only one replying to my game threads has been me lately ...
  16. This game will be a tough test for the Hawks, who have been struggling as of late. The Hawks have also not beaten the Ducks at all last season or in the game that the teams met this season. Although I believe the Hawks are due to beat the Ducks, the Ducks' 9-1 record in their last ten games and their 9-1 win over the Canucks are making it harder to believe that this will be the case tonight. We will see what happens tonight ...
  17. Hawks lose 3-2 in OT The Avs scored twice on the power play and Matt Duchene (another Hawks killer besides Paul Stastny, who was out injured) scored the game-winner in OT. The Hawks seem to live and die by special teams ... if we make a parade to the penalty box, we end up losing the game. Well, at least my NHL Pick'em prediction for this game came true ...
  18. In an attempt to get this thread going ... it's not an NHL game; in fact, I'm not even sure which teams were playing since this was back in 2010, I believe, but ... Near the end of a local newscast, the sports news was on and a coach was protesting a call against his team. This particular coach jumped up on his team's bench and proceeded to rip off his jacket a la The Incredible Hulk! I rewound that and watched it at least three times because it was so funny. Also ... anyone remember Robbie Ftorek and the BENCH TOSS in a game against the Wings in, I believe, 2000 (yave, I'm looking in your direction for this one!)?
  19. It's time for a rematch with the Avalanche! The teams split blowout wins in their first two games, so how will this one turn out? It's the game within a game! Will it be another blowout, or will the goal differential in this game be a little tighter?
  20. Hawks finally win in regulation for just the second time this month Five different Hawks scored in this 5-3 win and the Hawks are 5-1-0 vs. the Oilers in the past two years. The Hawks used to struggle against the Oilers in 2011 and 2012, but not lately.. Marian Hossa, on his 35th birthday scored to make it 3-2 Hawks and take the goat horns off Patrick Kane after an embarrassing play in which he bounced the puck off the boards into the Hawks' empty net on a delayed penalty call. Happy birthday, Hossa!
  21. @yave1964 That's what I'm afraid of ... that the Hawks might overlook this one. If that happens, the Hawks could be on the wrong end of an ugly score, like some of those losses to Edmonton two years ago.
  22. The Hawks are overdue for a regulation time win, but after the last few games, it's hard to say whether the Hawks are becoming a little complacent or whether they are just getting tired. The Oilers are having a terrible season but this game won't be a sure win. The Hawks must get over tonight's loss and travel overnight for tomorrow's 6 o-clock start.
  23. Hawks drop another one, but at least get a point The Canadiens have shown to be a surprising team, but I also think the Hawks may have overlooked this game. If we weren't trying to make the perfect play, we looked rather sluggish, and perhaps lazy, tonight. Now the Hawks must travel back to Chicago to face the Oilers tomorrow night.
  24. @yave1964 Montreal is a team that can be very surprising ... perhaps they will be involved in some huge playoff upsets? They took the Hawks by surprise tonight, unfortunately.
  25. This shoud be a very interesting game. I'm really not sure how this game will play out, since it has been a long while since these two teams met. I don't know what kind of game we're going to get with Montreal. The Hawks have struggled somewhat ... at least according to the media. The Hawks have lost 3 out of the last four games, although we did get a point in two of those losses. Corey Crawford is from Montreal, so we'll see how Crow does back home. Very interesting ...
