The first question we need to ask is, who the hell is Seeler to turn down 3 million a year. He’s never been anything more than a #7 defenseman. Ville Leino and JVR both had huge seasons as UFAs, we let Leino walk and he flopped in Buffalo, we signed JVR and he never played close to his last year in Toronto. Yet here we are again. Just like when we bought out a few bad contracts and immediately signed that washed up pylon Lecavalier. We never learn.

We will probably hate them much sooner, neither has done a thing to brag about in the NHL, except at 30 as pending UFAs, to have career seasons. We have seen this time and time again. Guaranteed neither of them come close to this season again. We will be paying over 8 million to keep these guys and both are looking for 5 year contracts. We have Drysdale,York and Sanheim as our top three, then you keep these two guys overachieving stiffs, with Risto or Zamula at #6 and 7. So where does that leave Attard ,Andrae and Bonk? There is no reason to keep these guys,especially for 5 years and at the money they want.

We have three young guys with tremendous shots, Foerester , Brink and Tippett, the best pure shooters we’ve had in years. What we really need are creative playmakers, especially at center to set them up and make the most of their shooting abilities.

I hope not, this is a big chance to expedite the rebuild and even if we draft a center this year ,it’s three years before he’s a factor. Coots will be shot in two years .Other than Konecny we don’t have much high end talent to acquire a center or high draft pick. We already have a setback in the rebuild with losing Gauthier and acquiring an injury prone small defenseman who is already behind in his development due to previous injuries. If someone is gonna overpay for these average defensemen having career years it better not be us. I sure hope we don’t make the same mistakes we’ve made for the last thirty years.

If we end up with four first round picks, we can get one, probably cost us three picks to move up high enough, but if we fall into the top ten it will be a lot easier and less costly I think there’s only a couple of good centers available in this draft, since it’s loaded with defenseman. Or else we try and trade for Zegras, or one of the two centers from Buffalo , but I hear a lot of negative things on these players. I don’t want any injury prone guys, floaters or projects. We probably are gonna lose the Drysdale trade as it is.

I want us to collapse into a top 10 draft position. We have been very competitive, no ten goal games against the Rangers, lots of good comebacks ,we haven’t been blown out alot, no multiple ten game losing streaks and many of our young players have improved a lot. That’s good enough progress for me, the draft is more important. We need a center and we need to trade Seeler,Walker and Laughton. These trades should guarantee us picking in the top ten. If we can add two more first round picks, this is a big help to speed up the rebuild and ammunition to trade up in the draft.

The biggest joke of all was you had two playmakers, pass first kinda guys , G and Jake on the same line for years, they should have been on separate lines . Neither would ever shoot the puck and they never got them a finisher. G needed a guy like Tippett. Now we have finishers like Tippett, Brink and Foerester and only one playmaker, which is Frost. Top priority is a skilled center and this team will improve dramatically.

Especially for a playoff run that might not even happen.

Contenders have always overpaid at the trade deadline, especially for defenseman. Walker being a righty is a key and Steelers hard nosed play and shot blocking are very valuable for the playoffs.I don’t think the Flyers asking price is unreasonable.

If we can’t get a first for Walker, then get a good prospect or at worst two second rounders and one second rounder for Seeler, if we have to give them back a fourth rounder, then do it.

And Seeler wants over 3. F them both.

Absolutely, giving Lindros the C was another. He had enough pressure on him with the refusal to go to Quebec, being anointed the next one after Gretzky and Lemuex ,being 20 years old and being the savior of the Flyers franchise. Your best player is not necessarily your best leader or any kind of leader at all. As you said, lots of stupid decisions, literally about thirty years worth.

Drysdale is week to week and then, they are trying rest and rehab and then he will be re-evaluated, at which time the team will announce he is undergoing season ending surgery. This is the flyers, the writing is on the wall.

I remember the word was the Flyers locker room was divided into two camps Richard’s and Prongers. Now was Pronger a douche and stepping on the Captains toes or did Pronger take over because Richard’s was partying too much and Pronger knew it.

He did get hooked while on the Flyers, if you remember he had surgeries on both shoulder's, that’s when it happened . Of course Oxys are for partying, people take them and have a few beers. When Richard’s got pinched the pills he had were not prescribed by his Dr, he bought them on the street. He was a great Flyer and came to play every night for sure. The question is ,did the Flyers management know it was pills and not just drinking and partying in the bar, did they offer him help, did he deny help or having a problem? I do remember when he was having a real off year and people kept asking what’s wrong with Richard’s, he was soon traded. I guess we will never know that part.

As far as the story has never been proven…Richard’s got pinched at the border with a crap load of Oxys and was out of hockey at 28, so it looks like they were accurate with Richard’s. Carter had a long productive career, so maybe his partying wasn’t so bad . So maybe they won the Richard’s trade but lost the Carter trade.

If we get a first for Laughton and for Walker,that’s four first round picks we would have. I’d try and move up, do a two for one to land a center and another two for one to land a dman.

I was talking about getting a center, but I just think TK gets us a better center at this, point than Tippett and I said don’t wanna trade our only real big power forward Tippett who has a great blend of size ,speed and a great shot and keep a smaller guy who plays physical but will probably break down for playing that way. I’m saying we lost Gauthier, so if we dump Tippet ,then we have no size on the wings . You need some size with skill in order to be a contender. I like TK, don’t get me wrong but I think Tippett is a bargain at his contract and if I can get a young center and a pick, I’d trade TK. But, since they gave him the A ,would they then turn around and trade him?

Tippett is on a good contract and is big and strong and one of the few big power forwards we have. TK is gonna get a bigger contract and is small guy who plays big and I’m worried about his long term durability. I wouldn’t trade one of our only power forwards especially after losing Gauthier for a small injury prone dman. The other thing is at this point TK will get us a better return.

Well, if you have good speed and lose a step you can go from being fast to being quick, when you are slow and hurt your back and then get old, you can go from slow to Brad Marsh.

I think the Flyers will invite you to the press conference to announce Laughtons departure.

Frost is playing well but he’s not up to the task of going up against the other teams top line, In time Frost can become a number two center and Cates is not a first or second liner. Poehling is solid and has some traits that Coots has but lacks the offense. Top priority is getting a young center either by moving up in the draft after acquiring two more first round picks for Walker and Laughton, which would give us four first round picks or trading TK or having a foolish team give us a good young center for Laughton or Walker. We gotta get a center for the future. If Coots back ever gives out,we are really F’d.

As we have all discussed countless times, we have lots of skill on right wing and we are weak at center and secondly LW. I hope Briere gauges the market for TK and can maybe land a great young center plus more for TK. I don’t really see them trading him right after giving him the A. To be honest we are not getting a high end center any other way, especially picking 25th and 30th. I still hope we can gain two more first rounders trading Laughton and Walker and then use some of those picks to move up if there is a good center available outside the top ten .

If we had a legit first line center we could lighten up Coots playing time and preserve his career by putting him on the third line,reduce his PK time too.Since we don’t , he will be overused, and totally shot in two years, especially if we make the playoffs.

Lyon, Stollie and Mzarek sucked in Philly bit somehow turn out decent playing elsewhere.
