  17. So, what i try to do here is, keep a record of every NHL fight that happens this season, and discuss the ones that are worthy, and from time to time, i'll post a video that goes with it...i have done this for years on my other forum, so i will see how/if it works here.
  18. Top prospects for Florida Panthers Borgstrom, Tippett among forwards who could play in NHL this season by Alain Poupart / NHL.com Correspondent August 13th, 2018 Today, the top five prospects for the Florida Panthers, according to NHL.com. 1. Henrik Borgstrom, F How acquired: Selected with No. 23 pick in 2016 NHL Draft Last season: Florida: 4 GP, 1-0-1; University of Denver (NCAA): 40 GP, 23-29-52 Borgstrom, who turned 21 on Aug. 6, will compete in training camp to earn the third center spot behind Aleksander Barkov and Vincent Trocheck. He signed a three-year, entry-level contract and made his NHL debut March 29 after Denver was eliminated from the NCAA Division I men's tournament. He scored his first NHL goal April 8 in the Panthers' final regular-season game. Borgstrom (6-foot-3, 185 pounds) was one of the three finalists for the Hobey Baker Award last season and has excellent puck-handling and playmaking abilities. Projected NHL arrival: This season 2. Owen Tippett, F How acquired: Selected with No. 10 pick in 2017 NHL Draft Last season: Florida: 7 GP, 1-0-1; Springfield (AHL): 5 GP, 1-1-2; Mississauga (OHL): 51 GP, 36-39-75 The 19-year-old began last season with the Panthers but was returned to Mississauga on Nov. 6 before he finished the season with Springfield of the American Hockey League. Tippett (6-1, 200) will be among several forwards competing for a spot on the third and fourth lines. His offensive ability, highlighted by one of the best shots in the organization, could earn him a job, but the Panthers may decide his defense needs work before he's ready to be a full-time NHL player. Projected NHL arrival: This season 3. Grigori Denisenko, F How acquired: Selected with No. 15 pick in 2018 NHL Draft Last season: Lokomotiv Yaroslavl (MHL): 31 GP, 9-13-22 Denisenko, 18, could begin the season with the Panthers, but given their depth at forward, he likely will spend the season in the Kontinental Hockey League after making his debut in the league during its 2018 playoffs (no points in four games with Lokomotiv Yaroslavl). Denisenko (5-11, 176) didn't put up big numbers last season in the MHL, Russia's junior hockey league, but showed flashes of the elite offensive skills and playmaking that Borgstrom possesses. Projected NHL arrival: Next season 4. Aleksi Heponiemi, F How acquired: Selected with No. 40 pick in 2017 NHL Draft Last season: Swift Current (WHL): 57 GP, 28-90-118 Heponiemi, 19, will play this season for Karpat in Liiga, Finland's top professional league. He led the Western Hockey League in assists and finished third in points last season. There's little question that Heponiemi has elite-level skills with his vision and playmaking ability, but with his size (5-10, 147), he'll need to show he can withstand the physical rigors of the NHL. Playing against men in Finland will provide a better gauge than playing against junior-age players in Canada. Projected NHL arrival: 2020-21 5. Maxwell Gildon, D How acquired: Selected with No. 66 pick in 2017 NHL Draft Last season: University of New Hampshire (NCAA): 36 GP, 8-15-23 Gildon, 19, stood out at Panthers development camp in July, showing off his tremendous skating ability. As a freshman at the University of New Hampshire last season, Gildon (6-3, 191) tied for second in Hockey East among defensemen with eight goals. He needs to get bigger and stronger though, and he'll get the chance to do that with a few more collegiate seasons. Projected NHL arrival: 2020-21

  20. Penguins prospect to play again after summer campfire accident By Scott Billeck Sep 5, 2018, 11:08 AM EDT One of the Pittsburgh Penguins top prospects will participate in the team’s rookie challenge, just a few months removed from being badly burned in a campfire accident. Center Jordy Bellerive will travel to Buffalo and suit up for the Penguins in the Prospects Challenge, the Penguins announced on Wednesday. Bellerive was one of three players from the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League who were badly burnt after a bonfire they were near exploded. RCMP at the time said that a “substance” was placed into the fire, causing the explosion and sending all three to hospital, including one player, Ryan Vandervlis, who was placed in a medically-induced coma for four weeks. Matt Alfaro, a Hurricanes alumni, was also injured. View image on Twitter Bellerive was in hospital for 12 days. He began skating again with the Hurricanes earlier this month and the Penguins say he is close to 100 percent health after “extensive rehabilitation.” “The entire Penguins’ organization is very proud of how hard Jordy has worked rehabbing himself back into game shape,” Penguins assistant general manager Bill Guerin said in their release. “Throughout the summer, Jordy’s recovery was always our top priority. We are all very excited to watch him return to game action with his fellow prospects this weekend in Buffalo.” Bellerive will look to pick up where he left off with the Penguins in last year’s tournament, when he attended on an amateur tryout contract. There, he scored four goals and added three assists. His solid tournament turned into a three-year-entry-level contract with the Penguins and a training camp invite. Bellerive, 19, wasn’t drafted. Last season with the Hurricanes was a breakout year for Bellerive, who notched 46 goals and equaled that with 46 assists for a 92-point season, his first as captain in Lethbridge. Bellerive received an invite to Canada’s World Junior Showcase last month but declined to keep recovering. Bellerive will likely head back to Lethbridge for another season and will be in contention for a spot on Canada’s team at the World Junior Hockey Championships.
  21. I'd be ok with Milano, but it kills me to think that the bruins got beat by a faster team. Kessel and speed and finish, as well as Seguin, but both players had maturtity issues and did not fit well in Julien's system, and look what happened after they left, both have been rock stars in Toronto and Dallas respectively.
  22. Thanks, my computer skills beyond suck, and some stranger made it for me waaaaay back in the day, and i love it. As far asnetminding goes, i can appriciate kipper more and more now that he's gone. Can only Hope Gillies is the "next" one, but his time is at least another season or two away, which makes me drool over the thought of Demko.
  23. Last year the flames (imo) hit a homer with the selection of Monahan at #6... Monahan is mentioned in Calder trophy talk, but i doubt he'll take the title home, and even getting Klimchuk, Porier, and Kanzig in the latter round could prove to be steals. Picking at #4 in 2014, will they have the same luck ? At this spot, they would be hard pressed NOT to pick a guy who could step in next season and make an impact. IMO, any of the Sam's would do, bennett or reinhart, and it could only be a miracle if for some twisted reason Ekblad is still there at #4. Either way, i'm bound to be happy with whoever they choose in the first round esp selecting in the top 5 at best. I'm more interested to see what they can pull of the round #2, as they have two picks , #34 and #54 respectively. I'm still not sold on Calgary's netminding, and even though Ortio and Gillies are in the system, I'd LOVE IT if they took Thatcher Demko. He's a Boston College guy, so get watch him often, and he's the top rated netminder in the draft. Perhaps Noah Rod at #54 ? He's a RW with a left handed shot, but scouts are weary of him, and the longer he slides in this draft the more apt he's gonna be to prove them all wrong, late in Round #2, i'd be willing to take a chance on him.
