  1. I think we need a clarification here: If Nodl outscores Jagr, but he does it while in the AHL, does that fulfill Aziz's prediction????
  2. @terp With the rumblings about trying to lower the salary cap-again-the only way that is going to happen is to allow buyouts, at some level.
  3. The last good game I remember Shelley playing was when he scored 2 AGAINST us, as a Ranger! You are 100% correct...I don't remember either. Just seems like if they aren't going to send him down, and he has to play due to cap/call-up reasons; yesterday was a game that begged him to earn his paycheck. Then again, with Lavy on the warpath about penalties, it is very likely he's told Shelley NOT to initiate anything. Which comes back to..what the hell is he doing there in the 1st place then????
  4. @brelic To me it didn't sound like Quigly wasn't talking about hitting people, or being strong in the corners, he was talking about having a 6'5' dude that could fight rather than having Rinaldo or Simmonds take on bigger players. I hate Shelley and his contract as much as anyone..but it makes even less sense to call someone up from the Phantoms-which we have no room to do anyway-to fill a role that an already signed player is paid specifically to do! Shelley isn't there to score goals, he isn't there to forecheck, he isn't there to screen the goalie on the PP and he isn't there to play D..he's there to be a "deterrent"-whatever the hell that means these days. We can debate whether his role is outdated, but my response was strictly based on calling someone up to do what Shelley is SUPPOSED to be doing...him actually doing it is another matter entirely.
  5. Not trying to be a di*ck here, but isn't this EXACTLY what we pay Shelley $1.1 million a year for?? And he was actually dressed yesterday, as well.
  6. @hf101 Probably need Aziz's knowledge here, but I'm not sure that's 100% true...I think you get a prorated/credited amount for players on LTIR on a daily basis, even if they are not out for the season. Example..Crosby-the Pens got some type of relief for him missing 2 months, but I can't recall how it's calculated.
  7. Like a lot of us, I was shocked, pissed, disappointed, pissed, pissed...okay..you get the point, when Homer signed Jagr. I spent many years developing a white-hot hate for him. IMO, he has been the most surprising development this season..even beyond what some of the rookies are doing. He is a quality player, well respected in the room, and a huge addition to this team..who would have thought that 4 months ago!?!?
  8. I wasn't comparing the players. I was pointing out the absurdity of Leino's contract, once again.
  9. I think the key to winning more games is simple Outscore the other team.
  10. @TedZep I thought Timmonen had an awful game..Skinner undressed him, and if you look at the goal..Bryz made the initial save..Timmonen didn't tie up Skinner's stick and he hammered the rebound in. On the other goal, the puck was in the crease and he did nothing..didn't take the man, and didn't clear the puck. Brutal for your top D man in the lineup last night. He needs to be better.
  11. Only 5 more years, at $4.5 million/year. That has to be the worst signing of the summer. I'm not a Leino hater by any means, but 5 points-in 20 games, for $4.5 million????
  12. Anyone else see this??? UGGGGHHHHHH...............................
  13. In Rinaldo's case, you simply have to take them both, or no one. Both teams/players were yapping, and Rinaldo even took a punch to start the scrum that wasn't called. Time/place/score...refs need to pay better attention. Then again, I guess he was lucky he didn't get 2 for unsportsmanlike and a 10. Then we'd have had to kill the penalty.
  14. @fishbulb This coming from the franchise that had a logo that was ripped right off the Morton Salt can...with that dopey yellow hat. Remember that classic??
  15. @Digityman Agree on Patrick Sharp..he took off after he left Philly. What a trade-I think we got Matt Ellison back? WTF??? The one that has always had me scratching my head was Dainus Zubrus..the dude just played in his 1,000 game last night..obviously he's been able to stick in this league for almost 10 years. Big kid that could skate, and we traded him away.
  16. @idahophilly I wonder if it is..I checked out that thread, and the user ID only has 3 posts to it. Maybe the real admin created a new ID, but I doubt it...
  17. For the record, I forgot the sarcasm font when I started this thread...no way in hell I want Carter and his 25 yr, NTC contract back!!
  18. @Hexy27 Depending on your location..I didn't check..you might get a visit from an ex-Flyer. I was able to get into a box a few years ago..it was actually the first game after the lockout, when the Flyers played the Rangers. Halfway thru the 2nd period, one of the guys in the box-no clue who he was-taps me on the shoulder and says"Do you think your kids would like to meet Bernie Parent". Initial response..SCREW THE KIDS..I want to meet him!!! Anyway..I had my then 8/9 yr old...and his buddy with me..both got to meet Bernie, got autographs, and he let them them touch his Cups rings. He was beyond nice to the kids...they still talk about it. I think he makes the rounds of the boxes during home games in some capacity. So take your sharpie..maybe you'll meet him..or someone else!
  19. Maybe we can trade them Bob and get Carter back??? :D Even early in the season, GM meetings buzz with some trade talk. The buzz at the GMs meeting was word that the Columbus Blue Jackets had intensified their efforts to trade for a goalie. Nothing was imminent as of Tuesday night, but a few NHL clubs confirmed to ESPN.com that Jackets GM Scott Howson was making calls. ...
  20. @Poulin20 Didn't Adam Burt wear number 2 as well?? What an insult..
  21. I know this was discussed the over the weekend, didn't see where anyone had posted this... Flyers chairman Ed Snider told reporters, "If a guy's good enough for the Hall of Fame, he's good enough to have his number retired." That means Howe's No. 2 soon will be hanging from the Wells Fargo Center rafters
