  1. Truthfully, and I hate to say this, I would do Briere, Simmonds and 2nd rounder for Ryan. Its a bit dicey because we are then banking on Schenn and Couterier developing there games quickly. Yet, if they were able to do that, we would be set at center for the long term. We would have Giroux, Couterier and Schenn as our top three. I don't like the idea of giving up on a 20 y/o Schenn that has only played 5 games and has done very well in very limited action the AHL. Keep in mind that Ryan had to bounce between Ducks and AHL his first two seasons before breaking out. I also like the fact that we would get some additional cash relief on the cap with moving both Briere and Simmonds contracts. Anaheim has the room to absorb both Simmonds and Briere as well.
  2. I was thinking Stafford. Kassian is doing very well for Rochester (leads the team in scoring). He was just called up last week. Both he and Stafford are big boys. The problem I guess is both are RW. I personally would not have Leino as Center. Maybe he is doing okay in the passing / play making, but I wonder about the two-way play and defensive coverage down low. Also his face-offs are atrocious (to the extent they don't let him take them anymore!). I wonder if either Stafford or Kassian can take faceoffs?
  3. I guess the thing is who did they really see him playing with? I mean you would think that they would have wanted to follow the same mold as Philly (water skeeter + body / banger in front of the net= leino can play his dangle - passing game).
  4. I agree (obviously) with your sentiment, but where are you getting the TWO first round picks from. I know the Emminger to Washington (which is John Carlson). Are you counting Downie as the other? If so, I am not sure you can do that, because he was already known asset at that point. I look at it a bit differently. If the Emminger trade never happens (and it should not), then I will make a couple of assumptions: 1) We pick John Carlson. 2) Downies clock is still limited as a Flyer and we move him. I am assuming we move him for a low 2nd rounder (because by that point he was damaged good with all his suspensions at that point). So, today we would have Carlson playing for us instead of Carle and whatever asset we picked with the high second rounder probably in AHL.
  5. Would make more sense to put him in the press box for a game or two and a couple of bag skates with the other peripheral players after game / practice.
  6. Actually the Flyers and Devils never shared. It was the Trenton Titans under the Flyers, then the Devils purchased it and it became the Trenton Devils (which was a bummer because there were allot of Flyer fans the followed the team). Then the Devils did not renew their affiliation due "restructuring farm system reasons" and the Flyers returned as the Trenton Titans. I actually saw the Flyers and Devils play a preseason game there back in 2008. Its a very nice arena and easy to get to from the highway. But, I do recall something with Hershey at one point splitting the Bears between the Avs and Washington. Didn't also the Maine Mariners do something similar (Flyers and team X that I can't remember).
  7. Yeah, but who negotiates those AHL contracts? Also, were do the non-NHL contract counts come from? AHL only or other pro hockey outlets (ie ECHL)?
  8. @aziz- Yeah, I get you that they would look pretty silly to be paying 5.6m to ride the bench. Then again, there is Dipietro and now Luongo, so if he does end up sitting, he won't be the only high priced goalie on the bench. Still doesn't make it right. Re: the NHL contracts, I thought it was the NHL clubs responsibility. So, in the instance of the Phantoms, the group from Pittsburgh that owns the Phantoms is responsible for facilities, parking, merchandising. There has to be something with the gate, because the gate usually pays for the players salary. Not sure how that would work with NHL / AHL arrangements. Any thoughts?
  9. I saw this mock on another site. Don't know much about allot of the players (jammer, FC and Brelic may). The individual has the Flyers picking Griffin Reinhart (son of NHLer Paul Reinhart). He is 16 y/o 6'4 and 205 lbs. Here is the mock: Round 1 1 - New York Islanders - Nail Yakupov, RW, Sarnia Sting, OHL 2 - Carolina Hurricanes - Mikhail Grigorenko, C, Québec Remparts, LHJMQ 3 - Anaheim Ducks - Mathew Dumba, D, Red Deer Rebels, WHL 4 - Columbus Blue Jackets - Ryan Murray, D, Everett Silvertips, WHL 5 - Calgary Flames - Alex Galchenyuk, C, Sarnia Sting, OHL 6 - Washington Capitals from Colorado - Zemgus Girgensons, F, Dubuque Fighting Saints, USHL 7 - Tampa Bay Lightning - Morgan Rielly, D, Moose Jaw Warriors, WHL 8 - Winnipeg Jets - Filip Forsberg, RW, Leksands IF, SuperElit, Sweden 9 - Ottawa Senators - Sebastian Collberg, RW, Frölunda HC, SuperElit, Sweden 10 - New Jersey Devils- Martin Frk, RW, Halifax Mooseheads, LHJMQ 11 - Dallas Stars - Brendan Gaunce, C, Belleville Bulls, OHL 12 - Toronto Maple Leafs - Nicolas Kerdiles, F, USA NTDP 13 - Buffalo Sabres - Cody Ceci, D, Ottawa 67's OHL 14 - Nashville Predators - Stéfan Matteau, F, USA NTDP 15 - Montréal Canadiens - Charles Hudon, LW, Chicoutimi Saguenéens, LHJMQ 16 - Florida Panthers - Jacob Trouba, D, USA NTDP 17 - Washington Capitals - Damon Severson , D, Kelowna Rockets, WHL 18 - Minnesota Wild - Slater Koekkoek, D, Peterborough Petes, OHL 19 - Phoenix Coyotes - Pontus Åberg, W, DjurgÅrdens IF, Elitserien, Sweden 20 - Los Angeles Kings - Coda Gordon, LW, Swift Current Broncos, WHL 21 - Edmonton Oilers - Tom Wilson, RW, Plymouth Whalers, OHL 22 - St. Louis Blues - Malcolm Subban, G, Belleville, Bulls, OHL 23 - New York Rangers - Radek Faksa, C, Kitchener Rangers, OHL 24 - Chicago Blackhawks - Henrik Samuelsson, RW, MODO Hockey, Elitserien, Sweden 25 - Philadelphia Flyers - Griffin Reinhart, D, Edmonton Oil Kings, WHL 26 - Vancouver Canucks - Nick Ebert, D, Windsor Spitfires, OHL 27 - Detroit Red Wings - Teuvo Teräväinen, RW, Jokerit, Jr. A SM-liiga, Finland 28 - Pittsburgh Penguins - Jordan Schmaltz, D, Green Bay Gamblers, USHL 29 - San Jose Sharks - Olli Määttä, D, London Knights, OHL 30 - Boston Bruins - Derrick Pouliot, D, Portland Winterhawks, WHL Here is the write-up on Griffin: http://dansallows.com/interview-griffin-reinhart/ His favorite hockey player is Shea Weber. Looks like he may be the type of prospect to grow into a similar player. hmmmm
  10. http://www.nhl.com/ice/recap.htm?id=2011020352&navid=sb:recap I wanted the Flyers to make a play for this guy two years ago when he was riding pine in Vancouver and the bus in Manitoba. This is a perfect example why we should not move Bobs.
  11. C'mon Aziz, being a bit extreme on this aren't you? A board of directors rarely gets into details like you are referring to unless there is just cause. Just cause usually has to do with $ (or lack thereof). In this case, Ed Snider is the Chairman of the Board for Comcast-Spectacor. Everyone knows he has cart blanch in regards to the operation of the Flyers (his baby). BOD meetings generally cover critical / strategic business decisions. While player expense is certainly a topic, I doubt they get into, "why are we paying this guy 5.6 M and he is not playing" conversation. They would discuss the total expense of all players versus revenue and valuation. For example, in 2008 the Flyers had a HIGHER 66m) salary than they have this year. That year their revenue was 102m. The other key indicator is valuation. In 2008, the Flyers had their biggest jump in valuation in the last 10 years of nearly 13% (from 244m to 275m). There is another indicator that a board will look at to see how they are operating against other teams in the league: Wins to player cost ratio. Compares the number of wins per player payroll relative to the rest of the NHL. Postseason wins count twice as much as regular season wins. A score of 120 means that the team achieved 20% more victories per dollar of payroll compared with the league average. In 2008 the Flyers had a score of 98. Flash forward to 2010: Player Salary: 63m Revenue: 121m Valuation: 10%+ (from 273m to 301m) Wins to Player Cost Ratio: 120 So if the Flyers continue to progressively put up positive numbers like these, I doubt the board bats an eye at a $5.66m per annum contract for the goalie. What is unclear to me is what happens to players that are on one way (NHL level salaries) that get buried in the AHL. Comcast-Spectacor no longer own the Phantoms. It is unclear to me how that works. Do they pay the salaries or is the Pittsburgh group that owns the Phantoms on the line for Players salaries? If its the Flyers, and take a Michael Leighton for example and I am on the BOD, I would be asking questions about that.
  12. Agreed. He is having a tough go of it this year there (but who isn't?). His cap hit is a bit steep too: 5.1. What are you going to move in cap to get him?
  13. Somebody needs to e-mail that guy about #4. #4 never happens if Holmgren doesn't send a 1st round pick for Emminger to Washington to begin with. Holmgren really screwed the pooch on that one. That 1st round pick has developed in 1/2 dman in Washington (john carlson). We would not even be talking about needing a d-man now (granted we would not have Carle, but he is on his way out).
  14. If we are trading for anything, I would think it would be a bonafide 2/3 dman.
  15. Suter has openly stated that Nashville wants him to stay and he wants to stay in Nashville. His direct quote is "We will get this done". Also, Renne is signed through 2019 (signed him on November 7 to an extension- 7m a year). Nashville also recently got a new investor (5% of the company). He may have some deeper pockets to increase Nashvilles payroll. Nashvilles booked cap for next year is only 21M (that includes Webers 7.5 million and Renne 7 million. They have allot of holes to fill, but 4 of their top 6 forwards are signed. It would seem that Nashville is building from the back out. Renne, Weber and Suter would be a huge anchor to that!
  16. @mojo1917 I guess I see your point, but I still like Timmonen for this team. I think he brings allot of things to the room beyond his tangible assets on the ice. I'd love to have a suter kind of player, but at what cost and what assets. Regarding Suter specifically, he has openly stated that he and Nashville will get it done. Nashville wants him and he wants to stay in Nashville.
  17. You would have to think so. I just can't believe a team would not have given a 4th for him. He is cheap and can play 10-13 minutes a night. He is not a liability. Here is a little tid bit for you: Claude Giroux- selected pick #22 in 2006 draft Andreas Nodl- Selected pick #39 in 2006 draft
  18. http://www.vancouversun.com/sports/Social+media+Posing+pouty+Paulina+Gretzky+sexy+pics+benched+from+Twitter/5784473/story.html?tab=PHOT Looks like she likes to graze in both pastures if you get my drift.
  19. We couldn't even get a low round draft pick for him??? hmmmmf
  20. I don't know much about Fowler. Seems like a offensive defensmen. Young at 19. The -38 after 99 NHL games makes me a bit nervous. How does a offensive defensemen help us??? Also, I see allot of posts how people are throwing Kimmo's name in for trades. WHY? We are talking about getting defense help, yet we are going to send out second best defensemen away? That makes NO sense to me. Especially when Kimmo is having one of his best seasons as a Flyer that far.
  21. The best part of that is that she is 24 now, but they have been together for 6 years. You can do the math. B)
  22. I don't think Suter is leaving Nashvlle. Bogosian resigned with Jets in September. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2011/11/17/suter-on-re-signing-in-nashville-its-going-to-get-done/
  23. He is already wearing the A (I think because pronger is out).
  24. I thought so too, but actually Bryz hit is more (5.67 to luongos 5.33). Luongos contract was just longer (12 years versus 10 years).
