To me there is just no reason to make a change at this point. Why not wait till the off season and get the coach you really want. Like I've said in other posts. This is more on Holmgren then Lavy. When I looked at this D when the season started I knew we were in trouble. Right now I' m really hoping for a high pick.

No. It's because their defense wouldn't match up against some AHL teams and their goaltender has a below .900 save %.

I know you'd like to give the rest of the team a pass for their inept play.
I don't.
I don't care who your goalie is. If you aren't giving 100% on the ice, you are cheating the organization, your teammates, the fans and yourself.
100%. All game. Every game.
But maybe this generation of entitled millionaire players simply looks for excuses, um, er, reasons to give up and quit.
That's not "Flyer hockey" where I came from.
And if it's Flyer hockey now, I'm done.
You do feed off your goaltender though. I've watched a couple games this week where Calgary and Nashville had no business being even close in each game but Kipper and Rinne both held there teams in long enough for there teams to turn things around. Calgary last night was getting out played badly by Detroit for two periods but Kipper does his thing and holds the fort and Calgary ends up winning a game they had no business winning. Same thing with Rinne and Nashville. They give there team a chance to stay in games. Bryz just doesn't. As far as I'm concerned this all comes down on Homer. This used to be a fairly tough team. Not any longer. The D is soft. I mean really soft. I think Ranger fans are seeing the same thing with their team. They added skill but got really easy to play against. They lost guys like Prust, Rupp, Dubinsky and they aren't that difficult to play against any longer. From the teams I've watched this season the Bruins and the Kings are built for the playoffs the best. At this point the Flyers need to start looking to next year and deal some guys. Especially Briere. And he is tradeable. There is always a team looking to add scoring for the playoffs. He can say that he doesn't want to go anywhere all he wants that's just for the guys in the room. If he's asked I bet he goes.

I thought I read on TSN that the draft picks will be all by chance. Every team will draw a number that will be where they line up in the draft? Another result of the Commissioners shortened season.
All teams that miss the playoffs will be in the lottery but it doesn't change the percentage of getting the first overall. You also can't drop more than two places. So basically if the Flyers finshed second last the worst they could pick is 4th. They made it seem like there was big changes but there really isn't.

Well, that's a valid point. But it's still the coach's job to make sure the players address the fundamentals, which they don't.
I agree. Lavy's system worked great while he was in Carolina when they were still clamping down on obstruction, but that isn't the case any longer. The Flyers need a coach somewhere between Lavy and Hitch. Still playing good D while using all the offensive talent they have. Oh and getting rid of Bryz would be a start as well.

No it should be pointed at the guy in the press box that put this team together.

Problem is most goalie's would have had the angle cut off and that puck would have never made it to that point. I can't remember the last time Bryz has made a game changing save.
-
He wasn't actually wasn't talking to ref. Rinaldo and a Sabre came together after the whistle and he was saying something to him. That's when he got the 10 minute. Pretty sure it was the same guy Simmonds detroyed earlier in the game. It was same thing as Scott earlier in the game. I wasn't sure either but I had the game on PVR and rewatched it and that's what the 10 minute was about.
-
Why? I don't think he can play defense or goalie. The guy is fraction of the player he used to be. Simmonds > Iginla. Would make no point this season. The Flyers just aren't good enough to play with the big boys. The Flyers need to get rid of some guys and retool for next season as far as I'm concerned.

The 10 was for some chirping after the whistle. Much like Scott in the first period. Had nothing to do with the hit.

I really liked watching Razor when he was here. His numbers weren't great, but he did look good in several games. Too bad we never game him another chance, but we can't fault the organization for moving on either. I mean, we didn't give Emery necrotizing hip disease. It's not our fault his hip was attacking him.
But dollars to donuts that if you swapped goalies right now, Bryz would go 10-0 in Chicago and Emery would be a middling .500 goaltender with average/below average numbers.
EDIT: I have no idea what "dollars to donuts" means or where it comes from, but I saw someone else use it here recently, and I just love the way it sounds!
Ya I'm going to say no on the Bryz would be 10-0 on Chicago. I've watched just about every one of Emery's starts this year and there have been atleast two that Chicago had no right winning. Emery bailed them out. When your coach comes out after the Calgary game and says that's the best goaltending performance he has ever seen that says something about Emery's game. He has been really good. Even last night he made some really tough saves when the game was on the line. We don't get that from Bryz.

funny thing about Anderson. He used to be the back up to Leaky Leighton when they both play for Norfolk of the AHL. Back then, Anderson was ALWAYS considered a better prospect then Leighton. Anderson started his 1st NHL game before Leighton, was a starter before Leighton....
Too bad we couldn't have made a run for him a few yrs ago when he was a FA.
And Ottawa got Bishop for a second rounder last season. At the time he was one of the best goaltending prospects in the minors. Ottawa has done a real good job of getting goalies for next to nothing.
-
Don't think Ottawa is trading Lehner. That's why i didn't mention him.
Never know. If Ottawa stays in the hunt they are really going to need a center with Spezza going down. Cough Cough Briere. Right now it would be tough for either Bishop or Lehner to move up with the way Anderson is playing. I would think that those two could come cheaper than Bernier. I think LA is really holding everyone hostage with Bernier.
-
Besides going after Bernier from LA, what other realistic options are there for a netminder?
The two guys stuck behind Anderson in Ottawa. Bishop and Lehner. From what I've seen from both they are step up from Bryz. Would come much cheaper than Bernier. The problem is the Flyers need to start looking now because there is team down the road called the Devils that will be looking hard. There is only so much longer Marty can play.
-
Actually if watch Emery play now, he has totally changed his game. Not the same goalie as he was for the Flyers. He actually talked about it on Hockey night in Canada a couple weeks ago. His injury forced him to play a different way. From what I have seen he's playing way better now than he did before. Much more sound not as busy in the net and way more calm. I guess we will find out how much he can handle now that Crawford is injured.

Disagree.
First, Anaheim has good fans, as do the Kings. Having lived out here for over 20 years, I can attest to that. Not saying that they are as rabid as us Flyers fans, but who is? They pack their arenas out & support the team. What they don't have is the idiot negadelphia sports media, but that's a good thing.
The main difference is that in Anaheim & PHX Bryz played on teams that played solid defense. His Anaheim teams had a blueline corps anchored by Pronger & Neidermeyer, along with Beauchemin and others. They didn't hang their goalies out to dry on a regular basis like this Flyers team does. The up-tempo, agressive style of Lavy's system would probably make Peka Rinne look like, well, Bryz.
I would have to disagree with you on Lavy's system. The problem with Bryz is he is not making the routine save right now. Peka Rinne steals games for the Predators. That's the BIG difference.
As far as Anaheim, been there. They have a good fan base but there is nowhere near the pressure their compared to big market and Canadian teams. Used to live down there and finding hockey news in the papers is tough to do. The Flyers made a big mistake on Bryz. All they had to do was watch the playoff tapes from his Phoenix years. Nothing has really changed.

@Jmdodgesrt4 I can think of many ways to intimidate someone on the ice without threatening to take off their head. Rinaldo is a goon, nothing more and nothing less. Has 0 talent. He didn't break the code because the ref said so? I seen a thing on TSN where DOZENS of players (including fighters) were asked if he broke the code and ALL of them said yes. You need to get your facts straight.. Rindalo is Avery 2.0 with less talent.
@AJgoal He was still up? He was about a foot away from hitting the ice when Rinaldo sucker punch'd him.
Really because I watched the same thing on TSN and there was like 2 guys that said that. Then they showed some of those same players fights where they did the same thing. I don't know if you have ever been in a fight on the ice but you keep swinging until it's done. It's not dance. it's either hit or get hit.
-
Really? Did you watch HBO 24/7. This is minor compared to some of the stuff that is said on the ice. It called intimidation. Ever heard of trying to throw someone off their game. Is this really news worthy? I would hate to see your reaction if you could hear the trash talk in a football game.
-
It's crazy how good Ray Emery has looked this year. I've watched a couple of games this year that Emery has played and he has absolutely stood on his head a couple games. Just think he used to be a Flyer.
-
Bryz will never succeed in a place like Philadelphia. Plain and simple. He doesn't have the personality to handle the pressure of playing goal for the Flyers. Bryz did well in places like Anaheim and Phoenix because there is no pressure in those markets. As of now he's pretty much forcing the hand of the Flyers to buy him out. As far as I'm concerned the Flyers really need to look around the league for a goalie that is stuck behind someone that's a starter. Much like Ottawa did with Bishop. They got the guy for a pick. The guy is lights out.
-
Depth move. As long as he replaces Knuble it works for me. Now to flip Briere to Ottawa for Bishop or Lehner and another prospect and I'm happy.

So Bishop is available?
in Philadelphia Flyers

So apparently Bishop in Ottawa ia available and the asking price will be a draft pick and lower prospect. All I can say is the Flyers better make a play for this guy. Young and still cheap.
