Maybe if Gallant kept Goofus around like in the old days he'd look better

That's... Unexpected. Especially the Deboer part

Does the NHL actually cover some of the cost of putting up these outdoor rinks or do they just expect the local government to subsidise them?

Merry Christmas to all, and for a more local addition to the thoughts put by OccamsRazor, I'm lifting a glass to all those volunteer firefighters battling fires all over the country. Australia has the biggest volunteer firefighting force in the world, and they're all working hard saving lives and property. This is a bad fire season, and they've been hard at work for a long time now. I know I wouldn't have the courage to face the hellscapes they have had to deal with.

Yep, apparently they'll be wearing them in 13 home games, because management at Buffalo aren't superstitious.
The design itself seems... ehh, uninspired. I get what they're going for, but it just looks like a very stripey away jersey

Have they said what the drug was, or is that a secret?

Late Wednesday night the Golden Knights began trimming down by sending Erik Haula and his $2.75M cap hit to the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for 22-year-old prospect Nicolas Roy and a conditional 2021 fifth-round pick.

He's not worth that much.

We all knew Sunny's suspension was a given. I understand the reasoning but no way was #70 trying to take him out so it's just a shame that he is being portrayed as a goon. He's not (and the hit wasn't elevated, Backes). At what point does the guy going into the boards become liable for his actions as well? I mean, if I run out in front of a moving car and get killed, is it the driver's fault or mine?
As the DOPS explained, the responsibility for making sure a check is legal is the responsibility of the person executing the hit. He didn't make enough of an effort to do so, and there's no movement by the person being hit that would have made an otherwise legal hit into an illegal one

Apparently he spent four years being assistant coach at Toronto, and before that coached the Oshawa Generals.
I'm not sure what to think of this, he seems likely he's capable, not sure whale happen with him

Well they also have Portland to help them out and maybe even Vancouver and Sacramento? Spokane. I wonder if they will have green uniforms? Likely. The Emerald City. Do you know what they will be called?
No announcement on a name, but the gear they've given out has been red-black, so probably that colour scheme

Ah, so another year. I wonder if they will be good like Vegas? I certainly doubt they will make it to the Stanley Cup final in their first year like Vegas. But if they even make the playoffs, they may have to think twice about their rules. I do not think an expansion team should be handed a playoff team. No way
Two years, they're starting in the 21-22 season. Apparently that's how much time they need to finish the stadium

Does Seattle come in this year?
Nope, 2021 entry

I voted Sharks in six, though I wouldn't be surprised if it went to seven. This is a match up I've been looking forward to, it should prove to be entertaining

What do you mean racist lyrics first i have heard of this?
From the article I linked to
QuoteSmith was a famous singer before and during WWII who recorded the offensive jingle, 'Pickaninny Heaven' which she directed at 'colored children' who should fantasize about an amazing place with 'great big watermelons,' among other treats. She shot a video for that song that takes place in an orphanage for black children, and much of the imagery is startlingly racist. She also recorded, 'That’s Why Darkies Were Born,' which included the lyrics, 'Someone had to pick the cotton. … That’s why darkies were born'

The big deal is apparently they're shocked that a musician who was famous in the 40s sang racist songs which, well, was the style at the time.
-
It's not because it's overstayed its welcome but because they took this long to take offence at the rest of her music library. Details here.

I think Ottawa's situation is just pure inept ownership.
If they can get a new owner, a guy who not only really knows hockey, but knows how to hire like minded people, the Ottawa Senators can do just fine where they are.
Sens fans are starving for a winner..and for a while, the Sens looked like they might deliver, but their dealings, headed up by ownership mandates have proven to be near sighted and it has cost the team on the ice and created a culture of 'second class citizen', I believe, in that Ottawa locker room....and proud hockey players never like that sort of thing. For the most part yeah, the owner is the biggest issue for the team. I sure haven't seen a situation where the fans of a team actually take up advertising space showing their discontent with the owner/leadership team. The fans have a memory, and the shadow of what happened to Alfie hangs over every current decision- exposing Methot, trading Karlsson, the horrible trade involving Hoffman, and with this trading a first pick for Duchene and then trading him for picks right after he starts being a core part of the team. So yeah, crowds are down, as a percentage of capacity Ottawa are second last (well as of midway through the season, that's the last reliable stat I have) which is amazing considering it's, well, Ottawa.
There are a bunch of other issues- yeah the stadium is in a poor position but it's not as bad as people say and parking is relatively cheap (as low as $15). Of course having the downtown arena would be much better, however Melnyk's intransigence could be more due to a lack of money on his end than anything else. He's- to paraphrase an article I read- 'Billionaire poor' in that while he certainly has a lot of money, it's quite possible he isn't at the level of wealth to be able to pay for a stadium. Teams are owned by consortiums to protect against the sort of vulnerability that happen with a single owner.
And of course form is another reason for people not turning up. If you give people the impression you're icing an AHL team in the NHL, well, why would people turn up? Why would people buy jumpers with their favourite player on the back when the owner trades everyone's favourite player near the end of every season? The number of Duchene jumpers I see during broadcast is really high. Will those people be buying another Senators jersey anytime soon? Hmm.
However. That all said, I can't imagine the team being moved. NHL management seems to prefer expansion over shifting teams nowadays and really, taking another team away from Canada (I honestly don't see them being moved to Quebec, which is a smaller market than Ottawa) just seems like a terrible idea.
The Senators podcast I listen to has this season decided to intro their episodes with this section of this song, and honestly... Yeah, it's pretty apt

If it's anything like the Order of Australia, it's a public honour similar to a knighthood but without a lot of the colonial baggage.
