Sorry,  not a fan.... I totally like the new jerseys.  It has all the colors that look like the sea.   As far a the purple goes the Kings need to bring it back to their color scheme.

  2. Just thought I'd announce that we will do the Playoff Pick'em again this year,  probably with a similiar set up to what we did last year.  I'm hoping for a good amount of interest.

Now's a good time for any feedback of what should be improved up from last season.  I hope to get the first weeks of games up on Saturday.

I did win the first two contests here or at least the two I knew about the last two years by picking Washington and St Louis.  Hell, I might have a new team.  But someone, like onoe of the mods, must do it.  So who are the mods here anyway?  I mean other than HF101?  I know Ruxpin stepped down?  Time is ticking.  The playoffs start in two weeks.  A very strange playoofs

I looked for what the NHL was doing - didn't see their bracket set up as before.  I will spend some time on Saturday and come up with a Daily Pick'em for the tournament rounds.  Basically create the topics with predicting the score, win etc.

  4. I think if recognition to Matthews is what is desired here,   Yeah..., Matthews was having the best seasons of his young career.  Fortunately he is young and will stay healthy to have many more great seasons.  He may make a lot of records for the Leafs, and he could also have a career ending injury.... we won't know until they play the games.  Will Matthews someday be the Best Maple Leaf Ever... maybe... if so... it is great for him.

IMO projections are just that, projections, they can be skewed to  however you want the data to look by adding or removing variables.  Stats are actual records of what is done.  Projections can be helpful in planning for the future, but they can also lead to issues when circumstances beyond control change the actual results.

Awards are not handed out for projections, but chances are Matthews received some sort of MVP award.... right?  ( I didn't look it up)  If so then he can be compared to other MVP the Leaf's have have given awards to.

Was the 50 goal mark important to Matthews?  Maybe, of course if it affected his compensation for a performance bonus as a goal, but then maybe MVP takes that place?  Should he receive that bonus based upon projected stats?   That is up to the Leaf's organization to determine but they've also lost a ton of money with this Virus so it sucks.... but so has it for everyone.   Most of us haven't achieved what we projected to do this year.

Because by extending to 24 teams, you include big markets like Montréal, NY Rangers and Chicago. It's only a money thing.

Yeah, but... there is quite a bit of importance to the money aspect.  There is a big TV contract to cash in on for the NHL.  Sure I know I will be missing out on seeing a playoff game or two in person, but frankly I'd be watching the majority of any playoffs from my couch anyways.   Not much changes really for a lot of NHL fans, other than it's being summer and nothing much else to watch on TV.

For me it is the health aspect that is more concerning imo.  How can the NHL keep all involved not to get Covid once they start up?

The American Hockey League Board of Governors voted to cancel the remainder of the 2019-20 campaign and 2020 Calder Cup playoffs due to the coronavirus pandemic, the league announced Monday.

"After a lengthy review process, the American Hockey League has determined that the resumption and completion of the 2019-20 season is not feasible in light of current conditions," AHL president and chief executive officer David Andrews said.

He added: "The League's operational focus has turned toward actively preparing for the 2020-21 season."

League standings will be sorted by points percentage and all player statistics are considered final and official as of March 12 - the day the league suspended play. These stats will serve as the basis for determining awards for the 2019-20 campaign.

The cancellation marks the first time since 1936 that the Calder Cup won't be awarded.

The NHL has only one option left (that I don't think they would ever do) and that's to finish the season and playoffs over the summer or into the fall. So basically, it's over.

I think that is exactly what they will do.  Finish the playoffs by the end of September.  Take a 1 month break and start up again in November.

Why would they bail now?   That is a tremendous amount of revenue lost.

  8. Welcome.  and just an fyi.  I edited your display name removing the email address.

I think they need a little more than a few good defensemen, but they will have an opportunity this draft to fill a few needs.

    Anyway, back on topic......

    • Has anyone noticed any drops in attendance yet?
    • Has there been an infected NHL player or coach yet?
    • IF an NHL player gets infected, what then? Quarantine?
    • How does that impact competitive balance if say, Sidney Crosby has to be in isolation for 3 weeks?
    • What if an entire team has to be quarantined for 3 weeks because of one infected player?

    🤔

A lot of schools have closed.  Some major companies are telling their employees to stay home.   It's changing every day.
