  1. I know it's only one game and all, but I gotta say I am quite impressed with both Boston and Pittsburgh's play tonight. I flipped between both games and saw a lot of each team and they both absolutely man-handled their opponents tonight. If they can each keep that level of play up I hope we see a Pens/Bruins series. That would be pretty epic I think. (not that I could root for either team, but I would love to see them beat the living hell out of each other, so much so that they dont have anything left for next year!)

  2. Oh.

    That's right.

We weren't invited to the dance.

    Carry on then

So this is what it feels like to be standing along the wall at the prom with out a date. I would feel sorry for all the computer geeks in high school right about now but there all millionaires.

  3. Ok I am settled now and if I offended anyone then so be it. I think if you come on a Flyer board and talk some around the board smack then whom is really the bad guy?

All good 33716, usually there really aren't too many "bad guys" on this board and we like it that way. Welcome to the forum, as I said there is a lot of good hockey talk here and a tremendous amount of knowledge. And feel free to throw some jabs at the Pens fans! Just keep it above the belt and expect to get it back! :D

  4. I live outside San Fran so I gotta go with the Sharks, then the Nucks. I kinda feel for the Nucks, they lost a heartbreaker 7 game series in 94 then sucked for many years and then lost another heartbreaker series in 2011. Plus I think it would be good for Canada to win the cup again.

Just dont want it to be the Pens, Hawks, or Bruins!!

  5. one more thing - where did I ever say that I am asking for the greatest goalie to ever play? If we had one I would be more than inclined to pay him Bryz type money. Otherwise, get a competant goalie and a defense in front of him. You see... it comes down to simple mathematics with Bryz. You paid for an Aston Martin but you actually are driving a KIA... does that make sense to you?

That is a totally valid point. From what we have seen so far, it appears that we were duped with smoke and mirrors (Tippets system made Bryz look way better than he is) and that we in fact did get ourselves a KIA. (Let it be known though that I wouldn't want the Aston Martin either - those things are a maintainence nightmare! Hey wait a minute.... are Aston Martin's made in Russia? ;) )

I think, and I am guessing here, that perhaps TF83 is of Russian descent, hence his affinity for Bryz and poor english. Regardless, my best translation of his post is that just fixing our goalie problem does NOT fix the team, and if that is what he is trying to say, he is absolutely right. We could have had King H in net this year and there is a good chance we would be sitting in the same place,

You understood what 5th grade education boy said?

-- Aziz... something tells me a 5th grade education might be a bit generous.

Easy fellas, that's a pretty low shot. Admittedly, TF83 makes some pretty bizarre posts and I am guessing that there is a pretty strong language barrier but from what I can gather, he is trying to have legit conversation, as confusing as it may be. The avatar pic does have to go though. That thing makes me uncomfortable everytime I see it.

  7. True and the Flyers have no one to blame but themselves. Winning all those meaningless games at the end of the year was stupid. Whether they won them or not they were not making the playoffs and would rather miss the playoffs and draft 4th or 5th versus 11 or 12.

I think we all feel this way but I am glad they didnt purposely tank. That's just sh-tty sportsmanship. I was just hoping they continued to suck naturally like they did all year and score our sweet draft pick that way. What's done is done and at least some of the young guys showed some real promise, especially Mason! Now let's hope for a miracle in the lottery.

  8. Yes Yandle is that type of defenseman. He was 10 goals 20 assists... 5 goals of which were even strength. He had 130 shots on goal this season... compare that to TImonen's 78. He played a little more than TImonen, but I would argue his minutes are a lot more productive than Timonen's at this point in his career. He is a cornerstone defenseman, and well worth Coburn and Couturier. I like the promise Couturier shows, but he is an unproven commodity in a position where you have great depth. There are few players I would say worth trading Couturier for, but Yandle is one of them. He did all that with less talent around him than he would have in Philly... and you have to give to get, especially a quality offensive defenseman.

I agree with what you said but Coby, Couts, and a draft pick (unless we're talking 3rd round 2015) is too much for Yandle. I know the jury is still out on Couts but I think there is real potential there, I'm talking Selke potential in his career. It may not pan out but I'd really like to hang on to him to see. Now if you are talking Coby (or even Mez) and a 2nd next year (do we have any of those?) or a first in 2015 or some other variation, then you have my attention, but I doubt we have Phoenix's.

  9. I know I'm the enemy and all... but I'm trying to set aside the rivalry long enough to say sorry you boys are done for the season. I know the feeling and hate it as much as anyone. Look forward to the draft, it may prove a bright spot for you yet.

The draft was the only thing this season had going for us and in true Flyers fashion, they managed to F that up too.

    That Lemieux is greatest? Ya.

I put Orr at #1. Gretzky at #2 and Howe at #3. Then Mario. Put 5 Orrs on the ice against 5 Gretzkys, or Howes, or Lemieuxs and I'll put my money on Orr all day long.

Hard to argue with your list FC and I do think Orr deserves that recognition because he was an excellent defenseman that just happened to skate and score like a forward. However, this is all subjective and I think you can acknowledge that Lemieux is "arguably" the best player to play the game, just as Orr and Gretzky and Howe should be considered for that honor. I think if Mario had stayed healthy his whole career like Wayne did, I think Wayne may hold a few less records than he does. The same could be said about Orr - if he had a full career, he was so talented that he may have earned the title "indisputed best player ever" but we'll never know.

  11. Nearly 7m in a goalie combo is not reasonable...

Well we differ in opinion there but I would guess that 7 mil for your 2 goalie combo is close to the league average. Certainly I wouldnt choose to have my back up goalie make 5+mil per year but if Mason takes the number one spot and Bryz rides the pine for the next year, I dont see the problem. Even if we were to unload Bryz and have another inexpensive goalie along with Mason and end up saving a couple million in cap space, do you really think that would make the difference in aquiring a game changing player?

  12. I personally requested Bettman's name be put next to Crosby's on the Cup but they said that the Flyers' management traded a second round pick for Bettman just before the trade deadline.

Haha! Well played sir! But it cant be true because it is common knowledge that the Flyers management had traded away all of their 2nd round picks for the past 10 years for a bag of pucks. To their credit, they did insist the pucks were pre-frozen. Besides, if it were true, we all know Homer would have thrown in a first and a third for good measure!
