  1. what do you people see in hartnell? you acting like he's the second coming of john leclair.

I didnt see anything of the sort posted in this thread so I am scratching my head here TF83 but for what it's worth I will say this about Hartnell, you will not find another player who has more heart or bleeds more orange and black than he does. Harts is a lot of things, only a few of them bad in my opinion, and the guy never takes a shift off, leaves it all on the ice, and will square off with anyone in defense of himself or a team mate. I'll take that on my team ANY DAY. (Even if he is overpaid.)

  2. I think a pefect fit for Vinny would be Detroit. He would be a reasonable cap hit after pocketing all that coin from the Bolts. They have a pressing need for a 2nd line center after letting Fippula walk, and I think he would make a nice veteran addition for Holland. He would replace Fippula's scoring easily and the term should be short enough that you don't have to worry about the last few years being a burden.

I agree with this but now that Detroit is in the east I dont want to see it happen! I t makes Detroit that much more of dangerous team, especially in the playoffs. Send Vinny out west please!

  3. We're on page four here, right? :)

It was obvious at the time, too. Vokoun took less to play with the Caps for a year and has worked out well in Pittsburgh.

Bryzgalov was apparently a known head case to everyone in the world. - BUT BRYZ HAD BETTER NUMBERS AND COMING OFF OF VEZINA TYPE SEASON. MUCH HARDER TO REALLY QUANTIFY HOW MUCH OF A HEAD CASE A PLAYER IS, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT COMES TO GOALIES.

To address your specific point - yes, I do think that Pens fans think that the goalie tandem that got them to the Conference Final and that has won a Cup for them before believes that they can win a Cup with those two. - I SEE YOUR POINT BUT IF I WERE THEM I WOULDNT SHARE THAT KIND OF CONFIDENCE. I THINK FLEURY IS DAMAGED GOODS FOR THE PLAYOFFS AT THIS POINT SO YOU YOU RIDE HIM FOR THE REGULAR SEASON AND THEN SWITCH TO VOKOUN WHEN WHEN HE FALLS ON HIS FACE AGAIN?

And there are Flyers fans - management among them - that will insist that Mason and... someone will be good enough for the Flyers to compete for the Stanley Cup.

Doesn't mean any of them are right. - TRUE AND THE LAST FEW CUPS HAVE PROVEN YOU DONT HAVE TO HAVE IMPERMEABLE GOALTENDING TO WIN A CUP.

    SEE MY COMMENTS IN CAPS

  4. If you were a Flyers fan would you rather have had Vokoun as your primary starter the past two years with Bobrovsky in the wings as a backup?

    That's my point.

Obviously in retropsect that is a no brainer, but I'm still not sure what this has to do with the Pens goalie situation?

  5. Um... The Pens just got to the Final with a guy that the Flyers decided wasn't worth signing in front of Bryzgalov.

I think you missed my point. If you were a Pens fan, would you be confident that the Fleury/Vokoun combo is gonna back stop you to a cup?

  6. What situation? Losing the eastern conference finals to an inability to score? Fleury gets 40 wins per season. Vokoun got us to the ECF. I'm laughing my ass off. ;) But more at FC's poke at how quick Flyers fans turn on goalies than the successes or failures of your goaltenders or franchise.

Yeah, that is how I took it and FC is on the money with his clever post. I suspect it wont even take until the start of the season for Flyers fans are calling for a lynching!

I am guessinng your wink indicates sarcasm because I cant imagine an intelligent hockey fan like yourself (well intelligent for a Pens fan anyway! (had to throw a jab in there!)) can not be totally comfortable with a Fleury/Vokoun combo. Dont worry it's still better than we got! Mason + ?? (Rumor has it Luongo, which depending on the deal I would be ok with, but knowing Homer, I am not going to be happy with the deal!)

  7. He could have fetched much more elsewhere I'm sure.

Given the cap is going down, how much more of a cap hit do you think another team would have been willing to make? I don't think many teams out there would have spent much more than 9.5 mil per year. I'm not saying the Pens over paid, but I think they paid close to fair market value for him and certainly didn't get a hometown "steal." The value however is in that the Pens keep the major components of a close knit core together.

  8. We have been in your shoes and worse (getting swept in the SCF in 97 REALLY sucked.) so many times Polaris that if anyone can empathize with a heart broken hockey fan, it's a Flyers fan!!! I feel for you man.

  9. All due respect to Boston... Rask stole the game. The Pens hit posts, glass... Each other... But Rask was the difference.

Yes Jagr hooked Malkin to get the puck that turns into the game winner... But the Pens had plenty of chances to win and blew it.

We had the better team all season. The Bruins are playing better AS a team in the postseason.

That is a spot on and honest assessment as hard as it may be for a Pens fan so kudos to you. Also kudos for not whining about the non call on the hook on Malkin. It doesnt do any good to whine about it but you would have every right to 'cause that was definitely a penalty.

  10. Ok, so the Pens are down 2-0, not the end of the world as a Pens fan but definitely reason for concern. (For the record, I could see the Pens winning 2 in Boston) Anyhow, in my opinion there are 2 ways to look at the situation the Pens are in right now.

    1. The Pens players arent playing their system well and the players the themselves are playing poorly with not enough effort.

2.The Pens players are playing with plenty of effort and trying to apply their system but the Bruins are neutralizing the Pens system and Dan Bylsma has to make adjustments.

I have not seen enough of thegames to make an asessment of the Pens effort myself but I would be surprised if #1 was the case and would guess that it more comes down to adjusting the game plan to fully utilize the all star talent on the Pens roster and beat the Bruins at their own game.

So if you are Bylsma, what adjustments do you make and who do you start in goal??

  11. Everyone seems to love Jonathan Quick, but IMO the kid is a bigger cry baby than Syd when he first was in the league. The Sharks score 2 clean goals tonight and the little toddler cries like someone took away his lollipop. Good for the ref for hitting him with unsportmanslike penalties. He's a good goal tender but the kid needs to grow up.
