  1. I agree that there may be some pieces on the roster now who could be important players on a possible serious contender say in 5 years. Farabee could be a really good player if surrounded by really good talent. But they feel like mostly complementary players (the Browns) than the stars who will strike fear into opposing teams (Kopitar). (I say 5 years because I don't think its realistic that they can contend until Gautier and Michkov are both on the team and that feels like it will be 2-3 years. I also don't think it's realistic to expect those two in their first year to be the Flyers' best players on a contending team.) It just feels like they are 1-2 All-Stars short of a Cup winning team at this point, especially on D. Those guys could be on the roster or in the system now (Bonk), but given what we know about the chances of even first round picks not developing into that kind of player (due to injury or otherwise), I would feel a lot more comfortable if the Flyers cashed in some current assets for some picks or prospects who will be coming into their own on the Michkov timeline, which is when the Flyers' window will open (if it ever does). I think how the current regime handles some limited success this year will tell us a lot about whether they have learned any patience from previous regimes' terrible impatience.
  2. It’s going to suck if that catches up to them not this year but in 1-3 years and the team then realizes they don’t have enough talent. Now is the time to get that talent.
  3. I'd play hardball with him (i.e., sorry, my dude, no you're not getting even $6M). But that is pretty much my default strategy for UFA.
  4. The only message that needs to be sent is we want the #1 overall pick.
  5. If they keep Atkinson at the deadline, that's a problem. If he is healthy and producing, he should be gone for future assets almost regardless of their position in the standings. Same with any older players who are going to be UFAs.
  6. Citation needed. In the 00s, LAK drafted in the top 5 three years in a row and had multiple first round picks in one of those years and one of the preceding years. In the 00s, CHI was terrible for a decade before they won the first Cup. The TBL drafted in the top 5 three years in a row (1st and 2nd overall in back-to-back years) and had multiple firsts in other years in the 10s. The losing didn't hurt these teams.
  7. Sunday - Named Coach, GM, and President for Life.
  8. Noah Cates should not be on the second line.
  9. Someone get @flyercanuck some meds before he reads that.
  10. I'm SCFlyguy and I approve this message.
  11. He doesn't need much time to get that shot off does he?
  12. This is what I thought the deal would look like when @OccamsRazor posted it a couple days ago for the first time. I would probably do this for a 2024 first and would absolutely do this for a first plus. Mathieu's contract will be over before this team is even remotely close to competing. This is the kind of deal a rebuilding team does.
  13. I mean grow up. Some ppl on the web were mean to my hockey team is amazing in 2023.
  14. Now that's something to be positive about. I think this guy is going to be a star.
  15. Going forward don't you stick to waving the pom poms instead of telling people how to be a fan?
  16. The real trick is management identifying ASAP the ones they think will be future cornerstones and moving the others for picks/prospects before it becomes apparent to others around the league that they aren't going to be impact players. If you do it at the right time, you can really keep the prospect pool coming - if you wait too long, you're left with players no one wants. Or you can do what the Flyers have historically done - lock those players in for long term deals because they have one good season and the Flyer's need to compete every year requires those players to be good. Hopefully the Flyers are done with paying based on what they want the player to be instead of what the player is.
  17. Like many people here in the Hextall years I made the mistake of assuming all their prospects were going to make it and the defense was going to be set for years to come with Provorov, Sanheim, Myers, Morin, Friedman, Hagg, etc. Ooops. I'm not going to make that mistake again. I'm going to assume 50% of these guys aren't going to be here or aren't going to be worth a thing in five years. Feel free to do it again though if it makes you feel better.
  18. Of course not. He might bring back a prospect or pick that becomes this in 3-5 years. Good enough to be making $7-8M to infinity? You're going to have to make that decision in less than 4 years. Personally, I need to see a couple of ppg seasons before I give him that kind of cash and I probably wouldn't even then because his age isn't going to line up very well with the rest of our prospects.
  19. That is interesting, because it implies the Flyers weren’t sending much to OTT if they were taking back Joseph (who seems overpaid). If that’s the case, it’s another data point indicating Briere is thinking long term 3+ years down the line.
  20. Babcock is a punk. I have no time for people abusing people like arena personnel. Good riddance.
  21. Well, Frost had 5G/11A in 55 games in his age 22 season. Let's see what Pinto does in his age 23 season. My main point was that you're not getting a guy who scored 20G in his age 22 season for nothing. I would probably stick with Frost as well, but something like Frost is what it is going to take.
  22. Frost didn't score 20 goals as a 22 year old. OTT not going to accept chopped liver for a prospect with that promise. On the other hand, if Frost does breakout this year, you could probably get a lot more for him in a trade.
  23. I would assume the Flyers would have to give up quite a bit to get him.
