  1. 17-2-2 vs the Sabres ... but Elliot is prob close to the edge of breaking down by now. Can’t fault him for that one...deflection by Braun....but I thought maybe they should’ve rested Elliot tonight and let Lyon see some action.
  2. Man that's gotta be harsh, getting waived, nobody wants you, then you're back on your old squad with everybody looking at you funny...ha! I don't feel too sorry for anyone playing hockey and getting paid for it - esp huge money like pro NHLers. But he's in for an uncomfortable couple days if he stays put...which I guess he is now that it's 12:02.
  3. Morin is finally healthy and has all the raw materials you could ever want in a D-man. The least you can say about him is he's highly motivated and is working his ass off to play in the NHL. Gost is an ideal partner for him once he's a bit more seasoned. I think he's a quick enough skater to cover when Gost is on the attack. But apparently the Flyers wouldn't take this one year - a year obviously going nowhere - and work with Morin/Gost as a D pair. If it was successful...well NHL GMs dream of having a combo like that on their back end. I don't know...big changes have to happen the team just isn't gelling for whatever reason. Maybe moving out Gost is a good beginning but I sure would've started somewhere else.
  4. Fletcher certainly failed him by bringing in Gustaffson as a .... what? ... replacement for Niskanen? How he talked himself into that is beyond me. Gost's $4.5/year made sense at the time because his ceiling appeared to be unlimited...the injuries sidetracked him, now his coach doesn't want him...but he may still end up being a great player in the NHL.
  5. Ha! exactly. Fk them. All that losing bought them Malkin then Crosby...gee nobody saw those 2 coming right? Riiiiight. I don't care who wins or loses tonight Pissburgh will always be the All-Time Losers in my book.
  6. Gostisbehere is a special player imho. Evidently I'm in the minority lol... But if he stays healthy his career may yet end up looking pretty great. Pair him with an established, stay-at-home defenseman .... too bad the Flyers don't have anyone who fits that description ... and he's a weapon the opposition will have to respect.
  7. If the supposed “major deal” doesn’t bring back a strong stay-at-home d-man it’s the wrong move. The very last thing the Flyers need is a Hall type or JoeblowsAtHockey. One Hayes is more than enough.
  8. Good point - I rarely watch the Panthers so I have no clue whose skates he could fill. If they do take him...Ghost, Gudas teaming up against the Flyers should be fun! I just think it's a shame. It's like when the Eagles picked a QB while they had Wentz. Talk about a message...I could see Gost feeling a bit abandoned when Gus was hired. From his POV he had a record-setting rookie year, then got hurt, got hurt again and only now is back to 100% - and I'd argue playing well. But obviously his bosses don't share my opinion.
  9. Well Gost is hardly a replacement for Ekblad. And a $4.5mil cap hit...I don't know how interested FL is in adding that much to their cap for an offense-first D-man.
  10. Apparently Fletcher and AV just don't value the guy. I sure do. He was fun to watch, part of the reason I could stomach watching this year. The guy had surgery on both knees the past 2 years. He's finally healthy now and looking like the offensive threat he was before. I think he's got 11 pts in 25 games... Yes he's expensive if you think of him strictly as a 3rd pair D-man. But he's so much more than that. He was the one guy getting shots thru from the point this year. As much as I'm rooting for Myers/Sanheim they both look like Braydon Coburn at the point, pretty much guaranteed to hit the defender with the shot. I can't believe they're keeping Gustaffson over Ghost. Of course waiving Gus means Fletcher has to admit it was a stupid move hiring him in the first place. I doubt he's man enough to do that but he should.
  11. The coaches, the players? Me I blame Fletcher. It's not all his fault of course but his WTF choices doomed the Flyers this year. They would've needed miracle-type years from Patrick, Lindblom, Myers, Sanheim...Hart... banner years from Giroux, Voracek etc. to have any chance of being a legit threat to win the Cup.
  12. Nice comeback very good. down 3-0 starting the 3rd, win in OT. Congratulations Flyers. So the obvious question is ... how can a team supposedly fighting for their PO lives come out so flat? They didn't even begin to compete for pucks, for position for nothing until the 3rd. That's just plain dumbcrazy.
  13. I guess it makes sense you bench the kids and put your vets out there down 1. Paid off got them to OT anyway. 2 wins in a row!! Giroux made that play good work to force the TO ... Provorov 5-hole wow I didn't think that would sneak through.
  14. I guess it makes sense you bench the kids and put your vets out there down 1. Paid off got them to OT anyway.
  15. I take back what I took back...give him a break on the 1st one - 5 Flyers on one side of the ice...But Eakin's goal shortside was a bad one to give up at the point. But credit where it's due - Eliot was the only one who showed up in the 1st, made 4 or 5 really good saves while the Flyers were sleepwalking. edit: this "team" doesn't deserve good goaltending.
  16. I take it back about Eliot being "strike one." He's 16-2 vs Buffalo over his career. Ha, I did not know that. I knew he had the 2 shutouts of course but I figured Eliot going again tonight was too quick after Saturday. But ... 16-2 ... okay...
  17. ha right? Imagine trying to convince yourself, "ah it's just been some bad breaks." I'm not sure I agree that Hart covered up their mistakes last year, and because he's not doing it now the Flyers are exposed as the bad team they are. I think it's more like collectively this group just doesn't work together very well. I'm far from blaming the captain or anyone in particular. When everyone seems to have taken a step backwards...something is rotten underneath I think.
  18. Buffalo has to win eventually and what better team to beat than the WhoKnowWhoShowsUp Flyers? So it's Eliot again? Strike one.
  19. So true. Hart hasn't played well this season but how much is on the skaters? I'd say quite a bit. Flyers' team D swings from non-existent to pretty good. It's no wonder Hart has struggled, no wonder his numbers are what they are. I think he'll be fine eventually....has a sports psychologist, friends with Bernie etc. But this season will be a black mark on his career and maybe only Flyers' fans will remember why.
  20. Not for nothing but the Rangers are much better now than when the season began. They gave the Caps all they could handle today - after a tough game yesterday while the Caps rested. With Shesterkin in net the Rangers are a tough out. That wasn't to dispute your point though. I agree there's little cause to celebrate. Morin played well, got the GWer. Gostisbehere looked good and Eliot was good enough. There's a few things the Flyers can build on...if they actually build on them. Or they may give up 6 goals tomorrow night and lose to Buffalo. I just have no feeling for this team, no idea who will show up. One thing I think is clear, a shake-up is in order and just about everyone is fair game.
  21. Rangers using that same play every time on the PP ... slipping a guy down the wall then toward the dot and feeding him for a one-timer. Flyers soft coverage means he gets a good look every time. Maybe it's okay keeping them on the perimeter...but no aggression no pressure on the puck-carrier. The PK has to battle not just wait and hope Eliot makes the save, which is what it looks like they're doing to me. It's a wonder it's not 5-1. A couple missed passes on the rush and a few missed shots on the PP otherwise it would be 5-1.
  22. True very true - I almost hit "edit" to say I take most of it back. No question the guy is a talented goal-scorer. He was slumping big-time before the Flyers' games. But I highly doubt he would've had even on HT against the Bruins or the Isles. I mean it's a shooting gallery against the Flyers these days. The PK...just this last one that they killed off - there's a Ranger standing next to Eliot's left post and nobody within 3 feet of him. Allowed to stand there untouched. The coaches have to take some blame for sure but when guys ignore the basics it's hard to blame them too much imho.
  23. Wow Shesterkin keeps playing like this the Flyers may never score again. That was a Wicked save on Raffl right before the PP.
  24. I'm sure you know it's not really Zibanejad. I mean give him a little credit sure but almost anyone who ever played would score most of those goals. Against this "Team D" it's like ... come one come all nobody's gonna bother to try and stop you.
