  1. as reported on tsn.ca:

Staring down the prospect of the team's first early summer since 2007, the Philadelphia Flyers may be looking to upgrade on the blue line in hopes of making up the current seven point gap between 14th and eighth in the East.

Philadelphia Daily News reporter Frank Seravelli reports that the Flyers' brass was recently spotted in Minnesota. GM Paul Holmgren and director of hockey operations Chris Pryor were spotted in the Land of 10,000 Lakes scouting not only the NCAA but the Wild's recent tilt against the San Jose Sharks.

The Sharks have already moved Douglas Murray and rumours persist that Dan Boyle could be moved, but Seravelli believes the object of the Flyers' affection is six-foot-five defender Brent Burns.

Burns would be a longer commitment than Boyle by virtue of his four remaining years at $5 million-plus and Seravelli sees him as a perfect fit for a Philly reclamation project.

1st, Brent Burns is 6-5? 2nd, I rememeber him being drafted in Minny and was highly touted. I haven't really followed him at all.

  2. Sorry I started to read the article then stopped. You only trade him if you are in a full rebuild. Other than that the D is a point of weekness and they simply can't make the team any weeker by taking away a decent dman - injury prone or not. Just my opinion.

Thanks for bring the article to the form to discuss!

  3. Agreed, a trade including Read is not a favorable option. So then, what is he worth come contract time? 3, 4, 5 million a season? 3, 4 year deal? He is a top six forward with a 24 goal season under his belt. He plays in all situations. I just hope the Flyers do not hamstring themselves so that can not resign him.

  4. Just wondering the value he brings to the Flyers. He was 3rd in total ice time versus tampa last night. He had a couple of great shots off_the_post (if my memory is correct). He has only has 2 PIM this year. I believe he is in the 2nd year of a max entry level contract and can play any forward position. According to NHL.com he is 26. So with the season a bust, and he has struggled a bit lately due to the injury, what do the Flyers do with him?

I remember Metzler writing he did not feel Matt Reid could be kept beyond his entry level contract. What salary range is he worth beyond the contract? What would he be worth now in terms of a trade.

Personally he is one of my favorite flyers and I don't want to see him go. Getting rid of Briere would go a long way to keeping him.

  5. Agreed on him looking out of shape. That was a terrible penalty too. Lavy sent the appropriate message though I think Hartnell should have taken more ownership of his benching than he did in his post game comments (something to the effect of it wasn't a message to him but to the team). Perhaps he is returning to his form prior to last year - I hope not. His skating has seemed to regress as well as his touch on those high slot shots he gets on the PP. Fortunately/unfortunately I think the Flyers have bigger concerns.

  6. Danny is always coasting out there. His speed doesn't change. Last one back consistently.

He's bringing down everyone he plays with. Time to part ways.

completely agree. He needs line mates that will do everything while he sits beside the net to wait for a rebound or cross crease pass.
  7. Good point with Carle, I agree that loss really hurt us.

In that context I can see the Bryz contract backlash, but I just don't get it when people take it personal and start hating the individual. I will admit he's played average on a below average 2013 Flyers team.

    I agree.

I actually support Bryz. Likely because the Flyers don't have any option at the moment and I don't think he has been bad. I still like what I saw in Bob except when he was beaten high glove time and again.
