Good luck....maybe after Putin takes a flight from Moscow to St. Petersburg

    Well played.

My Torpedo vs. my Stars? Yes please. I have no idea how that's going to happen, Jokerit rejoining the Liiga is gonna happen sooner I think, but I love international rivalries in sports. NHL vs. KHL would be really fun to watch to me, and there are some really strong teams in the KHL of course. I want more hockey, not less.

Yeah, it would be interesting to know. Officially, we'll probably never hear anything about what exactly happened. Boone Jenner and Johnny Gaudreau both said it wasn't a big deal, and I prefer to take them at their word. Friedman said that the younger players were the ones who took the most issue with this "what's on your phone?" stuff when compared to veterans. Babcock may have approached veterans differently than he would young players, or perhaps they're sensitive.

Nobody really knows, but I'm fully prepared to hear a lot of how "kids are snowflakes these days" when there seems to be plenty of that going around all age groups.

Looking at it again at this point I just agree with TheHockeyGuy's video on the subject. It's a workplace off the ice. Don't do that. No boss I've ever had wanted to look through my phone, and if they asked me that they could shove it. Do I wish the players had more support internally so that it could be handled within the league, through an arm of the player's union? Yeah. It seems like an opportunity to advance that kind of support. Your coach isn't your friend, generally, he's your boss. Do I wish that it wouldn't have become some bizarro gossip-piece initially and been handled differently? Oh yeah.

I also echo THG's point on this hopefully starting a trend where new blood is brought in from the minors etc rather than just recycling old coaches ad infinitum. New experience, new ideas. Makes things more exciting and hopefully, since the game will change over time, alters things in a positive way.

Yes, that's exactly what it was. If nothing comes from it, Dreger can say that he never said anything would happen. If more does happen, he can say that he always said it was possible.

One of Darren Dreger's jobs at TSN is to be available for radio in every market through the week, and this was a call TSN's station in Toronto. If Darren Dreger appears on the radio in the very city where Babcock was fired from, you know he's going to be asked about it, and he gave his best non-answer answer. For my part, I have no idea what happened in the meeting, obviously. My guess is that Frankie Corrado was probably pretty accurate about it: he said that Mike Babcock probably didn't mean anything bad by it, but that he's just too socially awkward to think of why some people might not be thrilled with the idea of sharing what's on their phone.

The reason that people are having "fits" about it is because he has a track record when it comes to mistreating players. If a coach without his history comes in and asks about pictures, tries to get to know the players, etc, it will be brushed over as a misunderstanding, and rightfully so. If a guy who has a history of playing head games, then it's not exactly strange that some people may be suspicious of him.

Jarmo Kekalainen must surely have accepted this possibility when he hired him; he's smart enough to know that, even if he

What a great hockey player he was. Except for the 1997 playoff, he stuck it to my Oilers every Spring for years and years.

This is the way to respond to a post, man. I learned a little more about the situation and there was a bit of banter at the end. Right on the money, and fair-play.

"Ohhhh I might have something...I might not...who knows! Its a mystery!"

Strikes me as attention-seeking. Why not just say something if you have something? If you don't, don't. I don't like social-media-style power-tripping as if you have an axe hanging over someone's head. Get a life, I say. I can't say I'm all that interested in this "story" but the amount of people having fits about this is funny.

Edit: However, what he did to OUR player Mike Modano, keeping that 1,500 game milestone off his record, leaves a sour taste in my mouth, lads. Don't play with my Stars like that. I know he was a Red Wing at that point, but he will always be a Star in the end.

Does any one know why he picks up his water bottle during a break in the action and then sets it down and stares at it for a while?

I believe he just uses it as a focus to meditate while in the game. To recenter and focus himself. Goalies are madmen.

Let's see how it goes this season as I heard Bally Sports SW is in trouble: On the Stars side, Michelle McMahon is gone, and probably Lauren Callender as well.

I guess I'm going to Sportsnet+ for my annual subscription as we don't have many other options here in Canada...

I will be very sad if we lose Bally SW. I love Bally sports for Brewers games and I think the network is great in general.

I guess we might be a bit spoiled for choice here in America but it still doesn't feel like much. By the way...the heck is a canuck doin' being a stars fan? What province are you from?

Has anyone else noticed how biased and bad espn+ coverage of hockey is

Absolutely. I cancelled my subscription because of it. It is just a trash product compared to, say, TNT's hockey coverage. The marketing is bad and I am not a fan of Leah Hextall at all. Pretty crappy journalist and I suspect nepotism is at play with her landing her job. That's just speculation on my part though! Either way, I just watch on other sites. I wish I could just get ice noises rather than ESPN commentators.

In fact, I will come back to this thread to roast ESPN even more (which is worth nothing but will amuse me greatly) when Baton Rouge's new minor league hockey team (FPHL lol) has better commentary. And I can watch them for free on YouTube. Go Zydeco.

  8. This is an exciting move and it's a shame more stars fans haven't flocked to this thread to voice their enthusiasm. Pick it up, lads.

I think this is a solid deal on an experienced player that will add a dash more physicality on the frontlines where I saw it lacking a bit in the playoffs. Hopefully he gels well with the team, because I think he has an awful lot to contribute/bring to the table. I can't wait to watch him play for us.

  9. We all do stupid things when we're young. To varying degrees of course. But I think it pays to not be vindictive and keep it movin'. Let the kid play. How many of us are the same person at 17/18 versus 20 even? 25? 30? Just about nobody. It's not just not a big deal at this point, it doesn't even strike me as a deal to begin with.

Edit: I mean at THIS point it isn't a big deal. Sure it was stupid. Sure it wasn't nice, but I've got bigger fish to fry.

  10. I can tell you from work-experience that this isn't typically how people handle stalkers hahaha but hey, a late congrats to Seguin, and, now, Mrs. Seguin. I doubt fidelity is gonna be a concern given her uhhhh "devotion" in the past, but he might end up in a hospital if he ever says hello to another girl that's for sure.

  11. Most teams I root for are extremely up and down (looking at you LSU football, Brewers, etc.) but the Stars are looking so solid it is almost dull to listen to or watch news about them. Solid as a rock, phenomenal depth. The veteran players are playing at their best too (I was disappointed in Benn's leadership as a Captain in the playoffs but that might be nitpicky). The future looks bright for Texas hockey. I see the Devils and the Stars in the final and a steamrolling of my friends in my fantasy league. Best goal horn and best goal song as well. Go Stars!
