  1. Elliott may be trending down in his career numbers, but this perky 9th rounder is still giving his team a chance to win (allowing 2 goals or less in Games Started) more often than not -

Moose  23 GS, 13 games of 2 goals or less,  57% of his starts were giving his team a 'chance to win' game

Hart      30 GS, 14 games 2 goals or less, 47%

    Talbot   32, 10, 31%

    Mrazek 51, 25, 49%

    Bob       71, 33,  46%

    Bishop  58, 40, 69%

    Welcome back Moose!

    Well it's coming together....

28 Claude Giroux - 14 Sean Couturier- 11 Travis Konecny
    25 James van Riemsdyk - 13 Kevin Hayes - 93 Jake Voracek
    23 Oskar Lindblom - 19 Nolan Patrick - ???????????????
    12 Michael Raffl - 21 Scott Laughton - 38 Ryan Hartman

So we traded Schenn to sign more expensive Schenn ? I thought we already had the homegrown pivots, then Hayes money for Simmonds...or is Hayes, Frost and Farabee a better future?  Don't know how lesser TOI and forward depth will help Nolan's game, either.  Either before or after we look like a slow team.

    JvR  Giroux  V   -  Big $

Schenn Coots Simmonds  - Not 2 Shabby

Lindb   Nolan  Konec  - Young Turks

    Rat Rafterman  Raffl  - Schraaps

  3. Normally this news walks on by, a mess among the millions every time online in future shock.

So the entertainer who sang God Bless America for millions of Americans is now declared un-American? ********. You would have thought Comcast discovered Kate Smith was raising money for the Axis.

For Flyers fans it’s par for our org, the Flyers trade away another all-time gem, goes well with the 3 centers we drafted and traded who went to hoist the Cup elsewhere, and the forward dubbed Mr Game 7, with his name on it a Couple of times, who just won another game 7, coached by another center, make that 4 centers traded away who went to win the Cup, the tireless Brind’Amour, who is coaching an organization below the MasonDixon still in the playoffs past the most recent Cup champ.  Another coach we dropped took his team to its first Cup in Music City, then there’s a goalie(!) we traded who then played for Vezina in a college football town, he’s still playing next week, and don’t get me started on Hall of Famer #88, it goes On and on, and on and on, except in ol’ Philadelphia Freedom where the ice melts in April.

So don’t worry Kate Smith, you’ll move to bigger and brighter games now that the Flyers have chopped your ankles off.

If I were a maverick organization in this wacky wide world of sports, I’d start opening day playing Kate Smith videos and encourage every paying fan, from every color, creed, every gender and generation to stand and sing in unison God Bless America with Kate leading the way.  I’m sure as news sifts through people’s busy lives, they’ll understand that standing with Kate is still in good standing.

**** it,  Comcast team, here's a guaranteed WIN WIN for social clicks and season tics: re-sign Simmonds and re-install Kate's statute on the same day and we may drink from the Cup in '20.

  4. Why's everybody writing an obit on a franchise-holding comeback team while the wheel's still in spin?

This team has excelled from the crouch, the comeback, so let's get back to evens tomorrow night.  Still have not seen their best hockey, imo, for a consecutive three periods, I think it's in there.  Maybe it's messy, but this Flyers team can dictate play against top competition, gotta do it.

  5. Good news is that the Flyers have another gear they haven't really reached much in this series. Let's just hope they can shift to it before it's all over. For me, it's over if they lose tonight. THIS is THE game... they need it.

The shifts started going into another gear after the Grossman injury - like they flipped the playing field  - didn't ya think?   Interesting to see if they can sustain that intensity back-to-back, a draining win or a new gustafason? If Nash played all his shifts like the end, watch out

  6. Bench him for a period. That slash was purely selfish. That'll motivate him to stay in control.

Playing only 17 min last night it was as if he was benched.   G+VLC  25 minutes; Richards + StL 40 minutes...a discrep due to lack of PP time, and what, strategy?  Let those horses ride, Chief!

  7.

Berube is going to have to make some adjustments for game 2 or else this risks being a short series.

Start with more ice time for VLC, 7 min, yeesh, but 12 for Akeson, yikes.  Last time Holmgren praises Chief in the press for his great hockey mind.  Or is he several stepans ahead?

  8. Go into N Y and win one of the two games  the first one is the best to win .

And they could get blanked in the Garden in G1 then turn it up...can INTANGIBLES be a key to a series? Berube's squad, sumthin about what they've shown in comeback after comeback - was it that game at the Joe where it started? 3 or 4 goals in the third?  I turned it off, then saw that W.  This roster elevated backcombs, what, 11 more times or something?

HolmGMren must feel good levenly larding this lineup, whatever that means, oh, it means yer Schenns and yer Raffls and yer Streits light the lamp.

This season showed they got that 'MO that can turn playoff series, lezzdoit!

  9. >>He's still extremely young and he's a decent forward.<<

and re-viewed at 870k, attractive.  Interesting to see which D unit that line draws in the playoffs, I think he's got another gear and needs to add to the matchup headaches with some early series lamplighters.   Why not?

  10. Someone said something regarding hanging with the Bruins but the Bruins being able to wear them down over a series.  I completely agree with that thought.

Rux - a sober assessment is no match for Berube's brew - thirst against top flights.  There will be no pressure against the B's, just trust the system and play hard, with some ol' opening round rux-spin.  All other matchups feel iffy.  In any case, can't see a stay-the-course summer if Flyers manage only two home games this Spring...

  11. >>the team would be much better off with Schenn receiving less ice time.<<

Caluso - I'm half expecting to see a post this summer "Brayden Schenn to Nashville".... I do think he's progressing, as many have statted w/ youth comparables, but if we are ousted in Rd1 and he's off the score sheet, watch out...

  12. Any casting suggestions?

    http://www.deadline....street-bullies/

"Rob Zombie will write, direct and produce Broad Street Bullies, a film about the Philadelphia Flyers hockey team that evolved from a cellar dwelling expansion team into a team that racked up victories and penalty minutes in equal measure during the 70s. Zombie, known for his head-banging music before transitioning to genre films like House of 1000 Corpses and Halloween, is making a departure with this film, sort of, because the Flyers brutal style of play is genre-worthy and has the makings for a hockey film on the order of the 1977 sports film classic Slap Shot."

Zombie got the rights to the team’s story, and has the full support of the Flyers organization. He likened the tone of the tale to Rocky meets Boogie Nights on ice. “Each character involved is more outrageous than the next,” Zombie said. “The backdrop of the turbulent year of 1974 is perfect for this ‘stranger than fiction’ sports tale.”

Former Flyers great and team senior vice president Clarke is appropriately stoked. “The great Rob Zombie making a drama feature film about the Broad Street Bullies is exciting and thrilling for all of us! I look forward to seeing it.”

  13. In a sense the Kings were also fortunate to get the W, NJ shoulda potted 2 in the third. Sutter knew it and sent the house at the end which made for a good game.

Same time, NJ prolly can't get a much better performance out of Brodeur, and it resulted in losing home ice.

Andy - didn't know who to I was gonna pull for, but it will bother me to see two more Calder Cup cohorts raise a Cup on another team. Almost as bad as a number 88 and our possible lottery pick scoring a Cup clinching OT goal in the house that Lindros built.

So, When ZUBRUS decked Carter, that was it, go DEVS.

    I wanna see LA squirm.

    Will we see it?

Can you bet against a 9-0 Road Favorite in G2?!

  14. 2 more cents, Since J had real solid Pitt series, don't see Lavi changing in a one-one series, the vets like him and Harts need to respond with an all-star game 2nt. but as the series wears on, the younger legs will be getting the minutes, which prolly leaves Jag with their 2nd or 3rd d pairing, good.

  15. @ Trevluk - Philly's best two blueliners from the past two season are out and Timo is playing a limited 15 min a game, it's a battle to to limit the opponent's scoring chances. That being said, they've outscored the Pens 11-2 after the first period. When's the last time Malkin was a -4?!

  16. Problem for us is he usually plays great a game after he falls apart, not that he necessarily did yesterday. But he and Bryz seemed to swap roles from beginning to end. Not of nothing, Remember when Marty Biron shut out this Pittsburgh team at home in an elimination game? Right. What Fluery did in g6 kinda what Bryzo did yesterday. so early...

  17. @MadDog - the flipside is our opponent is afflicted with this schizod play as well, strong in the first, tepid by the end. PITT seemed to lose the last 10 draws and had that similar deer-in-the-headlights look in OT.

The lousy starts, and the strong finishes, hinge on Bryz, IMO. If he plays the opening 10 like he does a Penalty Kill, it should be smoother ice. That being said, if PITT fixes their flaccid PP they'll be back in biz.

It's a dogfight MadDog, and we're in the Pit. Second best thing about winning the opener on the road is knowing you can do it again come Game 7, w/ no Pronger and Timo get 15 minutes of ice!
