  1. I honestly don't know a thing about this cat....

    Flyers sign former Flames forward Blair Jones

    The Flyers added a depth forward late Tuesday with the signing for former Calgary Flames forward Blair Jones to a two-way contract.

    The 27-year-old centerman from Central Butte, Sask., has bounced back and forth between the AHL and the NHL since 2006.

    He played 14 games for the Flames in 2013-14 with two goals and 21 penalty minutes.

    "A depth player for us who should help fill in if we have the need," Hextall said, meaning Jones would likely be assigned to the Phantoms.

    Jones spent most of last season in the AHL with the Abbotsford Heat, playing 38 games. He scored 17 goals and had 38 points overall.

    He was originally a fourth-round draft pick with Tampa Bay in 2005 and played portions of four seasons with the Lightning.

  2. Congrats all around, guys!!  Added a "power forward" myself (9.5 lbs 22 inches) on 6/12 to the mix.  With my twin boys playing center and wing, the forwards are complete.

    Holy smokes! My condolences to your wife, sounds like you might have a Defensive Lineman there instead!

  3. Personally I think it didn't go far enough. No hurled snowballs or batteries, no puking on little kids, nobody got tasered for running on stage, no doobie getting smoked in the men's room. I didn't see one single fight in the stands, not one!

    I suggest the fans step up their game a bit.

  4. @ruxpin

    I think the Talon booing was a leftover from the 3 straight minutes of booing the commish, maybe it felt so good it was hard to stop!

    If the Iggle reference was to McNabb in '99, absolutely agree what the Iggle fans in attendance that day was unforgivable, and indeed I think that always stayed in the back of his mind through his career here.

  5. but it came across boorish and asinine on TV.

    Honestly, I don't even debate that their was loads of behavior that was boorish or asinine. It's this "I'm embarrassed to be a Flyers fan" and everyone in in the building should be ashamed of themselves shizit. Just a bit overblown. Mind you I'm defending behavior that I and the two members of this board that I sat with weren't engaged in (except the booing of Bettman which I think we agree was a nonissue). And the obligatory "what about the kids".....every single one of the kids drafted was saluted accordingly and IMO made to feel welcome.

    And I will readily admit that I am probably overdefensive of my idiot brothers and sisters at the sports complex, it's like when you're younger and you that have one friend that more often than not gets himself into trouble because he's a lousy drunk - you stand up for him even though you know he deserves an ass beating.....and your whole group doesn't deserve the ass beating either.

  6. The only booing I really remember hearing in person was Bettman and when any GM congratulated LA (Which rubbed me wrong). I also left before Pittsburgh picked, so I missed the booing of Tocchet. Other than that, there may have been a smattering, but I'm wondering if mic locations or other technical items made it sound worse than it was in person.

    Well there's your problem, you were actually in the building.

    If you watched on tv you would have had a much better perspective on how classless you were :ph34r:

  7. Tocchet actually cracked me up when he cracked a joke to Rutherford and said "See, I told you it wouldn't work". I think Tocchet knew that people were booing the penguins and not him. They choose him to announce the trade because they thought him being an ex-flyer would squelch the boos, but it didn't work. Kind of comical when you think about it.

    Yup Tock's a big boy and he's spent enough time here to know the deal!

  8. except that the contract was a deliberate attempt at circumvention of the cap

    You really can't leave that out, you know.

    Salary: $7.6M, $7.6M, $7.2M, $7M, $4M, $575K, $575K

    They knew the rules, they were warned about the rules, they signed the contract and blew up a Cup Final team anyway.

    Karma's a female dog sometimes.

    I acknowledged that earlier and do not dispute the contract structure.....or Homer's shocking lack of knowledge regarding the rules. However my point was addressing the fact that the Flyers didn't get caught by the age/retirement factor that was the true intent and object of the rule. They got caught by a stick to the eye in the early and still high $ years of the contract. And if not for that we probably wouldn't be discussing it.

  9. The booing is almost a tongue-in-cheek joke, there's this attitude that Well this is what we're told we are so you wanna see obnoxious and classless, here you go and we'll top it next time. That's what the 30-something generation has known all their lives, having the spotlight on Philly when Philly misbehaves but less scrutiny when similar things happen elsewhere. BS lazy journalism about Santa Claus in 19 freaking 68. You don’t like us, and we don’t like you, here’s another “black mark” for everybody to write about. That’s a sociology discussion by itself.

    I don't know what it was like in Newark at last year’s draft last because I wasn't in the building, but I'm sure they were all perfect angels and clapped like seals when the Flyers and Rangers were announced. And I said in another thread, there were plenty of fringe fans there that are neither hockey historians nor brain surgeons, not your average Flyer fan to be sure. I cringed at the "sucks" after every team name was called, but then again I really don't give a shite what the rest of the NHL or the holier than thou media think of it either. Wish Tock got a better reception, but I'm not losing sleep that he didn't. Was it all a little much?  Probably, but then again it’s not like the PICKS got booed, all the kids got at least polite claps at the appropriate time. Ekblad got a great reception. But nobody wrote about that did they?

    I raise my kids to show respect and sportsmanship, I will even point things out at home games and use as an example of what NOT to do. But Philly is what Philly is and in the end I've cast my lot in with the red-headed bastard stepchildren of sports. So no I wasn’t embarrassed, or ashamed to be a Flyer fan.

  10. I don't think I'm getting my point across. When a GM signs a player at that age, they HAVE to consider the ramifications if they get hurt. It's not Holmgren and Pronger specifically, its everyone. Holmgren signed it anyway, so again that's the risk you take. Unfortunately for the Flyers they got snake eyes. So they either LTIR and pay the man or accept the cap hit. A GM HAS to weigh the risk vs cap vs player desires.

    I understood the point a couple of years before you ever you tried to get it across to me. And I'm really not going to bother trying again to get my point across. These two points, both valid, are not mutually exclusive.

  11. I really enjoyed meeting you too AJ! It was tons of fun and always good to see sarsippius!

    When the Flyers win the cup we will need a Flyers board wide get together to celebrate.

    @AJgoal

    @Poulin20

    Indeed good to catch up with a couple homeboys from the board, I can honestly say that everyone that I've actually met has turned out to be good people. We should definitely plan for a game this season and get in some pregame festivities
