  1. There is another thread about Eckblad and it reintroduces the Lindros deal with the Flyers. The Flyers were wallowing at that point and time. While they did not tank, they certainly put all their eggs in one basket for that move to get Lindros. I look at the Lemieux thing no differently. Just a different route (and certainly less costly).

    Well yeah, except one route involves intentionally putting a lousy product out and giving your loyal consumers the finger in favor of appealing to bandwagoners. I'm not talking Mario here I'm talking about the philosophy in general.

    Business smart? I guess. But completely devoid of integrity.

  2. @B21

    I can only imagine the backlash if I started a topic in the Pens forum called "Flyers - 40 Years of Failure"....only for Pens fans.

    Reported for factual inaccuracy. It's only been 39 years of failure. Ford was the President, not Nixon...sheesh....btw if you want to create that topic I'd be happy to chime in :ph34r:

    @AJgoal

    What the Sixers did this season was disgusting. Makes me glad I haven't followed the NBA since Barkley was in town. I do love me some Big 5, another topic.

    @Bakanekimiwa

    I don't think putting this in the Pens forum would have necessarily been trolling. You hate the Pens, I hate the Pens (but not nearly as much I loathe the Rangers). I started posting on that other site in 2007, and I think you were there before I was. I would seriously encourage you to hang out, if you're looking for a Flyers slant there's plenty of that here. And I personally have enjoyed reading folks from all over the NHL, it has made me a more knowledgeable fan (ya I know, that joke kinda writes itself)

  3. Why crawford? What has he done since his days in Colorado??

    I guess I'm thinking specific to Pittsburgh's situation, more along the lines of someone with experience coaching top 1% types i.e. Footsburg/Sakic/Roy in COL and his stint as HC of Team Canada, which granted didn't turn out all that well. I'm not sure you want to promote your AHL coach at this point in time with this team.

  4. Agree on all points. I loved Ulfie on my team in the Cup wins, but how much respect would the skill guys have for him? I mean, he clearly sets an example for the "whatever it takes" crowd. But is that the face of your organization?

    Exactly - he may have the the tools for a head coaching gig, that I really don't know, but would Crosby and Malkin buy in?

  5. @Poulin20

    @AJgoal

    I will sport #27 in honor of our esteemed new GM. I work not far over the Walt on the Jersey side, so I'll probably just bolt over from the office.

    I'm going to assume the "real" Cup will be on display, but I don't think that will be at Xfinity live (RIP Spectrum, I still haven't stepped foot on that ground since they tore down my church)....tix say NHL trophy display is in the WFC main concourse starting at 5

  6. How about this trade Coburn to the Oilers for their 3rd overall and then trade the 3rd and 17th along with Brayden and Luke for the 1st overall???

    Flyers brass will never go for it unless you give away a 2nd rounder too....oh wait Homer's not the GM anymore, nevermind

  7. Rick Tocchet is supposedly being considered as an Assistant.

    Out of that group Crawford would be my first choice.

    Agreed out of that group.....I think Crawford is best choice, although I admittedly don't know much about your minor league coach. Would pass on Wilson, maybe I'm giving to much weight to watching him shclep that dreadfully lame Leafs team around. John Stevens, nice guy, likes cake, but IMO he's much better in a support role. Ulfie....I can't possibly have an objective opinion about a top-5 dirtiest SOB.

  8. These guys to me caught wind of something more likely than anything the Oilers were contacting the Flyers about the availability of some players and then purposely turned around and leaked it just to stir the pot....creating their own drama just so someone is just talking about the Oilers

    Exactly. Why on earth would Hexy be entertaining thoughts of trading Simmer? Keep the rumor mill flowin' to sell papers....er, keep up wewbsite visits. Non-story

  9. @sarsippius

    Not like it resulted in a breakaway the other direction. They still had to play the game. Those who don't seize the moment and all... And momentum is a matter of willpower. If you're going to fold like a pansy over one blown call you better find a different sport.

    Now take your own words, and apply it to your crying, in this very thread I believe,about how the refs handed the series to the Rags against YOUR TEAM. Honestly man that's just foolish and devoid of even an attempt at objectivity.

    I went out of my way to say IT'S NOT WHY RAGS LOST THE SERIES. But somehow how you can't concede a point as obvious as what a horrible call it was and that it had an effect on the game. Fold like a pansy is hyperbole that doesn't describe what happened.

    EDIT: My bad, I reread the thread and the words "handed the series" were not used by you in this thread. Maybe another thread, maybe another poster, maybe I just remembered incorrectly. This is called admitting you were wrong, I highly recommend it. Doesn't change my point one iota though.

  10. Ville Leino.....talk about parlaying one decent NHL season into a big $ contract and falling off the face of the earth.

    3 seasons in Buffalo, 137 GP, 10G/46A  minus 18.....last year 58GP 0G/15A minus 16.  Benched down the stretch on worst team in the NHL

    I'm sure somebody will be interested, can't imagine who though

  11. @Polaris922

    Just bustin' your chops on the sour grapes comment, but the guy's question was about this series, not the ones against the Habs and Penguins so.....Anyway, it may not have changed the eventual outcome of the series, but that horrible call against them in game 5 led directly to the tying goal, I mean I think it was the same shift off the ensuing faceoff. And how do I stick my leg out and get a penalty called on the guy who runs into it? If they hang on and force game 6 back in NY....well I shudder at the possibilities.

    Did they lose the series because they got jobbed by the refs? No of course not. But Rangers fans looking at that call, then thinking back to two OT losses after blown two goal leads in the first two games.....I can understand the what ifs. The Flyers got swept by the most dominant dynasty of my lifetime in '76, but I still look back at having no Bernie in the series and losing the first three games in OT and wonder what if....

  12. @Tunnleram

    Putting my well-documented and partially neurotic Ranger hate aside.....good to have another Ranger fan here, look forward to jousting with you!

    Agree on the Game 5 "trip", atrocious call and I said it the second it happened, at a crucial point in the game. I wasn't so offended by the liberties taken on Lundqvuist esp the game 2 call, but I guess it's all perspective. A work with an old-time Ranger fan and we've been discussing the series throughout, today he even kinda shrugged that stuff off, said they had plenty of chances, three OT losses shows the Kings had the horses and were at the right place at the right time. I tend to agree.

    Don't worry about @Polaris922 and his sour grapes, he's a good poster....even though we agree on absolutely nothing :D
