  1. The Jackets have actually put a decent defense together, while I am not a Wiz fan, he is a power play specialist and if he can stay healthy is okay on defense. Nikitin was a solid pickup, johnson is a stud, Tyutin and Methot arent going to hurt you, Aaron Johnson has found new life, and with kids like Savard and John moore getting their feet wet this year, it actually has the making of a quality defense. I wouldnt trade Nash at this point. Offense is very weak, Johansen is gonna be a solid top six forward, Brassard is developing and they will likely add Yakupov, still too many Letestus and Gillies, the only way I would consider trading Nash is for Pavelski, Greiss and a pick or a combo thereof that gets a top six forward, a goalie and stockpiling picks.
  2. Carter never wanted to be in columbus in the first place, Good move for the Kings, managed to keep Bernier, they can take him to Toronto for Schenn possibly, or tampa or another of the teams with wretched goaltending. Carter and Richards will push each other, just hope there is enough alchohol in California for the both of them. They will miss Johnson, I have always felt he is Suter light, playing robin to Doughty being batman, the same way Suter does for weber. I am telling you, Bernier to the leafs for Schenn would finish this deal off perfectly. I picked the Kings to win the cup before the season and they have been worrying me but bet this gets it together for them......
  3. Radulov is kind of a rock star in Russia right now, easily the biggest superstar in the KHL, dates supermodels, does television commercials, he is everywhere. If he returns to Nashville, he has one year left on his contract which must be honored, at 980,000 a season. In russia he makes six million a year playing for Salavat Yulaev Ula, plus another four to six million in endorsements. All together, contract and endorsements are ten to twelve times what he would make in Nashville, plus is is a home country hero. Lets say he bites the financial bullet, comes back, after his first season back, what would he make, four, five million a year? Dont get me wrong, there isnt a hell of a lot that you could buy for ten million that you couldnt buy for five, but put yourself in Radulovs shoes, every year he doesnt come back makes it that much harder for him to decide it is worth it to return.
  4. It is past time to trade Ovie, but he has an unmoveable contract. He has slipped back for several seasons now, nobody would take on that albatross of a contract.
  5. He still brings something to the table, grit, leadership, one of the best shootout guys in the game. 40-45 points a year. Think he is overused on the first line, but it frees up the spreading of talent three lines deep and while he doesnt excel he doesnt embarrass himself. Horrible start this year, has been playing great hockey for a couple of months now and deserves to be resigned.
  6. Quincey is a big boy who can quarterback the power play, good passer, solid in his own zone. Was with the wings for parts of three seasons, knows the system, knows the team, wont hurt the chemistry at all. Allows Kindl to slip to the number seven d-man or serve as trade bait for a forward.
  7. Quincey for a non prospect and this years number one, which should be somewhere between 27 and 30 was a no brainer. I really didnt think we could pick up a top four defensemen for a draft pick. It fixes the second line power play, Hudler has played the point and been terrible, Quincey can now quarterback the second team power play, something he was born to do. The other thing everyone seems worried about is team chemistry, Quincey was here before, knows most of the guys. Great pickup. And the best part, is the Wings/Avalanche rivalry is about dead, but I doubt Colorado would have dealt him to us. Using the Lightning as an intermediate to facilitate the deal was one little poke at the Lanche as well.
  8. The Capitals will win the award for underachieving and be blown up at the end of the year. Semin to the KHL, Ovie has an untradeable contract but everyone else is available. They have a very, very real chance of missing the playoffs. This team bus can park in a handicap spot because they have no spleen.
  9. Gotta say, Shanny is doing a fine job. Some should be longer, some shorter, some even get missed, but the word is out, DONT TARGET THE HEAD. Dont leave your feet, and oh yeah, DONT TARGET THE HEAD. It is better than it ever has been before as far as player safety, good, clean hard hits are still fine, head shots are being watched as they should be. I say keep on keeping on, its working.
  10. Smart move, only move that could have been made really. Joey Mac is coming off the best two weeks of his life, has earned the backup role for the remainder of the season.
  11. Hal Lebowitz, longtime Cleveland baseball writer, in the baseball hall of fame in the journalism wing, grew up reading him make a bad for decades baseball team entertaining. He signed off on every column with that little quote. Gotta remember the old guys every now and then.
  12. As a wings fan, good to see the blues lay an egg today. Chicago is desperate to right the ship, a win for them meant the world and they played like a desperate team. I was looking at the schedule, the blues have only 8 home games compared to 23 on the road down the stretch, at home they rival the wings. On the road they rival the Jackets. I see the blues as a solid number four seed that nobody wants to face in the first round.....
  13. Simple asnwer, yes. Love the line of Helm, Abdelkader and Miller (The HAM line, hope it catches on, lol). I have said few kind words about Abdelkader but he has really turned into a player this year.Problem is this should be our fourth line, we need another true top six/nine forward preferably a center to make it work, We need Derek Roy from Buffalo. I see him as a Robert Lang type of pickup, a Larionov type of pickup. Can center anywhere from lines one through three, could be had for a combo of Andersson/Nyquist and/or picks. allows the HAM line to go back to their natural role, everything flows. I see the lines as follows.. Franzen Datsyuk Bertuzzi Z Filpulla Hudler Cleary Roy Homer Miller Helm Abdelkader As far as defense, we could use a depth d-man, Commodore has been terrible and while I trust our six we play daily an injury here could cripple us. Problem is when you look at the returns for Gill and Kubina it is a sellers market, but if we can steal a d-man for the right price (doubtful) we should do it.
  14. Strictly pulling this out of mid air, but a trade offer that makes perfect sense for both teams, keeping in mind I am a Red Wings fan so at least impartial: Carle and JVR for Suter. Perfect trade for both. Suter is sooooo gone at the end of the season, its had to be hard being one of the top ten defensemen in the game or better and living in Webers shadow, in a city that gets next to no publicity anyway.Carle and Suter are both UFA at the end of the season, Carle at least along with Gill gives the Preds a suitable replacement for Suter, while JVR steps right up into a top six forward spot and provides something in return for Suter long term, even if they choose not to resign Carle or if he winds up signing elsewhere. Suter is EXACTLY what Philly needs, he plays well on both special teams and along with Grossman overall fix the PK problems that have killed your team, and take a half a goal a game off the goalies stat line. What do you guys think?
  15. I think the Red Wings would like to feature Tatar a bit as trade bait, I know 22 in a row at home, some fans are saying dont mess with chemistry but truth is the Wings need depth, another scorer and maybe another defensemen if the asking price isnt too high. Cant believe the return Gill and Grossman just fetched. I read a rumor that with picking up Gill and having the kid defensemen coming on like Josi and Ellis that the Predators would entertain offers for Suter, who is an UFA at the end of the season. Almost everyone colors him gone, with the right deal Nashville could challenge for a cup, but what would a team have to give up for him? I dont see him being dealt in the west, in the east the flyers have a desperate need for him, and the Preds might be able to command a fortune. I dont know what to think of the Blues. I give them credit, they laid an absolute egg to the Bluejackets the other evening, then bounced back by beating the hell out of the Isles. Great team defense, everyone responsible in their own zone. As far as two way play the most underrated player I have seen this season is Vladimir Sobotka, he is plus 14, taking on other teams first line forwards. Watch him sometime, he plays like Bob Gainey. The Hawks are in Danger of missing the playoffs, something I cant believe I am saying. The Hockey news ran an article about how good their defense is shortly before it competely collapsed, all the off season signings except Montador look bad and the schedule is unfavorable down the stretch. They have the money and prospects, they will likely have to overpay with both to salvage the season. Columbus is looking to dump, Vermette, R.J., Paulsson, but the guy I would look to deal no matter how he is playing now is Brassard. He quit on his coach and didnt show up until Arniel was canned. I wouldnt want him on any team I liked. Stay well and see you somewhere I hope (Whos famous quote every week was that?). Dave york
  16. Well I compare the Nash situation to the Wild a few years ago with Gaborik. No doubt the best player in franchise history, but the team moved on and while it may kill you guys if Gabby hoists the cup with the Rangers this year, it really was time for him to move on. Unfortunately Nash is buried in Columbus, a city that by all accounts he enjoys, but if he is ever going to play on a winner he likely needs to move on, and they have sooooooo many holes, if the CBJ ever hopes to be a winner they will likely have to trade him. As far as Zidlicky, his best friend in the game since childhood is Patrick Elias, but you cant force a GM to trade you to a certain team, this is not the NBA, that is what free agency is for. If he wants to move on and play with his best friend, at the end of the season, that is their choice. Right now Fletcher has the cards, though by Zidlicky expressing his desire to be a Devil and his own upcoming ufa it likely hurt his trade value for other teams who would expect resigning him to be difficult. So by playing it the way he has, Zidlicky has hurt potential return for the wild, and if you cannot get at least what Grossman and Gill just brought in return I think Fletcher should hold on to him out of spite.
  17. I dont know what happened to Hunter thought he had more than this in the tank. Looks like KHL next year for him...
  18. If you can resign him he is a good buy for a second and third, market is thin, there are twice as many buers as sellers right now. I was surprised Dallas did this deal and I am sure it took a second and third to get him.
  19. Keep the shootout, but only award two points period. Think about it, the NBA, NFL and MLB all have extra time, either overtime or extra innings. A win is a win and a loss is a loss. I dont think a team should be rewarded for a loss, we are the only real sport that does this......
  20. Good pickup for you guys. He brings absolutely nothing to the table offensively but is a solid, Brad Stuart type of shut down defensemen. Your penalty killing problems may not be over but are a long way towards being solved with this guy. In a day and age when special teams win games, Grossman is a great pick up, take that from a Wings fan who has admired his play for years......
  21. There are no highlights if you dont win the cup, lol
  22. My greatest saves in a Flyers uniform by Ilya Bryzgalov And 35 years of Flyers pst season highlights
  23. Would be a good fit for the wings, give more depth and options in the top nine forwards.....
  24. Hey stay off old Gordie, lol. I am speaking of the modern game since the lockout, if you arent strong at center your not going to win.
  25. First let me say that I love Vanek. He is high on my wish list of players I would love to see the wings pick up at the deadline. But let me make this clear, he is no Nash. Nash is one of the top ten Wingers in hockey, a leader as well. He has been cursed by an inept organization and often throughout his career he is the only player on the team who knows how to put the puck in the net.
