  1. http://tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=392211 That last game gave a national audience a chance to see Crosby and Malkin for what they really are...highly skilled dirtballs! I can't believe that even the NBC announcers seemed to be conceding that point as well. Way to call them out again Chief!!!!
  2. He is certainly starting to make a believer out of me. With this team in general, the only thing I'll say is show me that you all can play like this when it matters most. After suffering through too many let downs and heart breaking losses over the years, I have lost the optimism, instead always waiting for the bottom to drop out. I always say...prove me wrong and I'll be happy to eat crow at the end of the day. Bryz really turned it on in late Feb and has just carried it through this month. It all seemed to coincide with the additions of Grossman and Kubina as well as the little side bar he had with the leadership of the team. The softies seemed to go away and the team seems to be playing better in front of him, which has been combination for success. Kudos to you for never losing faith in the guy.
  3. Look, you can say what you want about fans jumping on the guy, fairly or unfairly, but the bottom line is that we were not out of line to be on him. Briere let the cat out of the bag by telling us all how the guys in the room were also unhappy with him. They thought he was not being that great a teammate. It was all about Bryz. That was not some hater fans saying that bout him, that was one of the team leaders. They had to pull him aside and tell him to cut the crap! To his credit, he took the advice to heart and now he is thriving. His interviews are all about deflecting the attention from himself and putting all the praise on the team. It is obvious the guys in the room appreciate how well he took the advice. He could have easily said screw you and kept acting the way he had been, but he manned up and did thhe right thing. It is paying off so far. I don't apologize for booing hm off the ice and I never will. One poster implied that those of us who booed him are being silent now that he is playing well. BULL! We are all saying how happy we are that he is finally playing well. You want us to own up for being on him? Keep dreaming...the fans and his own teammates got on him and rightfully so. He played like crap and made some really dumb comments. We are all happy that he is playing well and we are all cheering him on. Do we really need to continue the divide here? We are all different kinds of people seeking the same outcome.
  4. Lol, I'm not sure how to take that last line, but i am happy the way I am as well. I don't think poorly of those who kept the faith in the guy, but I do have a problem when the positive, "tolerant" people can't tolerate those of us who got on him during his horrid play. Not directing it at you, just throwing it out as a general comment. I respect opposing opinions as long as my view is also given the same amount of respect. Now I m not ready to hand Bryz the keys to the city just yet, but he is certainly moving in the right direction.
  5. As someone who booed Bryz and criticized him, this is what I have been waiting for...to be proven wrong. Right now, Bryz is playing the way we all had hoped and expected him to play. I really hope that extended period of poor play was just an aberration and this this is the kind of play we can expect out of him going forward. Bryz, or any other hot goalie for that matter, will really prove themselves to me when they can do this in the playoffs. I'm really happy to see him getting his act together down the home stretch and I really hope he can carry this into the playoffs, because with the already potent O and the improved D, this team has a chance to make some noise. Does that article make me regret booing and doubting Bryz? Not in the least. The way he played, it gave me no reason to believe in him. I'm long over the feel good optimism that I used to have towards my favorite teams. Show me that you're good wearing my team's uniform...I don't care how good you were for another team last year! If you stink wearing my team's uniform, I'm going to boo, especialyl when I'm shelling out a lot of money and putting in a lot of time to attend these games. Now Bryz is starting to show us the goods and for that I'm very happy!
  6. Great since Jan? Better then the first half of the season, but by no means great. I consider his current play great. No soft goals and bailing out the team if there is a break down. I'll tell you where I was, at each and every home game and he was NOT playing great. He was allowing soft goals and contributing to the team playing poorly. A slow start is playing poorly for the first month of the season. Bryz has been inconsistent at best (that's being really kind) all year. I am more then happy to cheer him on now that he is playing worthy of hs contract. He could lead us all the way to Stanley Cup glory this year, and I won't regret booing him off the ice at times because it was warranted, just like now when I cheer him on because it is warranted. You really do get what you give in this town.
  7. My bro and I saw it happen live and we could not figure out why he had slammed the stick. It never occured to me that it could have been directed at Simmonds. We thought a Wing must have poked at him or made some sort of contact that he was upset about. I don't care who it was directed at, it was stupid on his part because he could have broken his stick with play still going on. I remember when a goalie broke his stick counting down the last few seconds of a powerplay. I hope it was not directed at Simmer, because I would have to agree with Maine that it would be a **** move to call out your player on the ice like that. Besides that 1st goal, Bryz played another good game and I really want to believe that he has turned the corner with his play and with his relationship to his teammates.
  8. I guess it is just a matter of opinion as far as stealing the game. I felt like the team played well in front of him at times, but also got caught running around from time to time and he came up with some key saves to bail them out. Whether he stole the game or not, I think we can all agree that he played the way we had hoped he would all season and if he plays like this the rest of the way, this team has a shot at making a run.
  9. Great game by Bryz! It is about time he stole a game for this team....now lets see the improved continue down the stretch. A good game against Detroit will be really nice to see. When the man deserve his props, I am more then happy to give them to him.
  10. To further Rad's point, I think the faithful who show up night in and night out at the WFC have been supportive of the guy. It's not like when his name is mentioned that boos rain down on him. The most piling on him comes from the media and from places like this. People are frustrated and rightfully so. He was supposed to solve our goalie issues, whether the rest of the team was ready for a big run or not. I know before every game when his name is read by Lou, I cheer for him and hope that his play will make me cheer for him at the end of the game as well. I don't enjoy booing a player off the, but I don't have any problem doing it if it is deserved.
  11. Very well said Andy! I boo for poor effort too, but I also boo stupidity and consistent poor play.
  12. That's fair Rad. I see your point on that. There were many positives to mention on last night's game for which no threads have been made. I'll admit, I'm stuck on Bryz bad play, though I fully took notice of the great work by Danny B, Simmer, Read and I thought Grossman looked good out there. I think the additions of Grossman and Kubina and sending down MAB will benefit Bryz.
  13. I know what you're trying to say here Rad, but it does not change the outlook on the rest of the season for me. The team is not going to be able to bail him out every time. In fact, he needs to be able to bail them out some nights. People got annoyed with me last season because I looked at things in the big picture. Even though the team was leading the division all year, when they started their slide, I knew it would not magically disappear during the playoffs. I don't savor victories like this as long as some would like because within that vicotry comes legit concerns. It was great to see them pull it out, but what would get my off Bryz's back would be 4-5 very good games in a row. That would give me the confidence that MAYBE he is ready to lead this team to success. Thats how I felt after his last stretch where he strung together some good games, but then he let us down again.
  14. I have no problem bringing up the positives of his game, but it is only fair that we can present the negatives as well, especially since they did actually impact the game.
  15. I don't remember him being a troll on the old board, I think he is just an overly positve fan who gets too bent out of shape when fans boo and get negative. I'm a season ticket holder and I attend most home games. The funny thing is, its not like when Bryz is is announced as the starting goalie that the entire arena errupts in boos. He gets cheers and encouragement from the majority of the crowd (myself included), and that is our offer of support. We cheer him when he makes big saves. We aknowledge the positives, but when he messes up and it leads to losses, people boo. Been going on here for years. Players know that the fans here expect a lot. Some handle it well and thrive on it, others wilt from it. By the way GM talks, it would seem that we boo Bryz any time we see him or hear his name. Not true of the majority of fans. Our points about him giving up 2 bad goals last night are completely fair! If he does not give up those bad goals, we never would have had to go to OT for him to make his great pad save and have Jags win it!
  16. Why do you care what NY fans think? They act in a similar fashion, except they have far less of a chip on their shoulders because their teams actully win titles. All of their teams have been booed by their own fans, including the Yankees! Their fans make it VERY difficult to attend sports as a visiting fan. They will threaten and give you the business too if you are wearing the opposting teams jersey. So why should you or I care what NY fans think of us? If they make fun of us for booing our player or how we act in our arena's, then they are just hypocrites.
  17. I read it the same as PhlFly. It was total sarcasm and a shot at the hometown fans. I was glad to read that he admits that 4th goal was brutal. No way he could really defend it. If the guy wants the love and affection of the fans, he needs to stop allowing soft goals.
  18. Unfortunately he also gave up some bad goals again. I also took notice of the key saves and hope he can build confidence off of them. Right now my confidence in Bryz is about as high as his confidence in himself, so I'm not that optimistic. We have seen it before where he strings together a few good games and then he lets in some killer goals. Let's hope this is the start of more consistent play down the stretch.
  19. A player will either be motivated to play better based on being booed or he will fold up like a cheap tent. Supporting a player through rough times is not a sure fire way to get him back on track.
  20. After another game of giving up 4 goals...BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Couldn't care less if it makes me look pathetic, boorish, neanderthal, or whatever else. D and goalie deserve it night in and night out lately.
  21. I hate to tell JVR and Giroux, but WE ARE BOOING YOU TOO! You think that when I'm at the game and I'm booing the team off the ice after a pathetic effort that it is just directed at Bryz? The fans are actually smart enough to understand the difference when the entire team blows the game and when they lose based on a soft goal. We have seen plenty of both this year. In the Pens game, there was plenty of blame to go around across the team. Bryz gets upset because the papers seem to cover the goalie situation more thn the poor play of the team, but he has to understand that he came into a town that has not had a good goalie in YEARS and we were led to believe that Bryz would solve all of those problems and that he was worth this massive contract. He has yet to prove that, so of course he will be under the microscope that much more. This is not rocket science to figure out. And to JVR, I'll keep quiet when you and Bryz and some of the other guys start earning your contracts. These guys make more in a few games then I make in a year. I shell out money to pay for Season tix and I watch as many games on TV and time allows. I have every right to voice my displeasure.
  22. It makes me sick just thinking about one of our athletes making a comment like that! It's like the kids gowing up who were jealous that you were better at a sport then they are, so they just make fun of you saying "You try too hard." It was just a way for them to feel comfortable in their own skin. I think it is a similar thing going on here with Bryz. He came here wanting to win and telling us his goal is to win this city a Cup. Now that things are not going so well, the passionate fans of Philly just care too much. He should care more the anyone since he is reaping the benefits of major overpayment. But he already has his safety net lined up for himself in his own mind. For him, he isn't playing that bad, we fans just expect too much out of him because we care too much. That sort of attitude does not fly here and I hope we don't have to watch him playing here much longer. Unfortunately that's probably who we will see playing here for 8 more years!
  23. If the trade for Nash was a certainty and I persionally had the choice to trade one or the other, I'd pick Schenn. Coots has impressed me so much and I think he is the kind of 2 way player that will have a long lasting effect on this team. Personally, I'm with FC on this one though. I don't see why we need Nash, so I hope we don't lose either of these kids. They both look like they are only going to get better.
  24. Am I crazy to say that I really don't think Suter is the kind of D-man we need right now? Not saying he would not vastly improve our D-corps, but b/w Weber and Suter, I think Weber is the D-man we so desperately need to replace Pronger! I know we just got Grossman to help keep the porch clean, but why settle on a garden hose if a power washer were made available? Getting back to reality though, I don't see Weber or Suter coming here at the deadline, so it is likely a moot point. I like the Grossman deal to be honest. Hope I'll still be thinking that after tomorrows game!
