  1. Just curious... This is based on what? It happened once with Cobie and now we are doomed to repeat history over and over? Besides, Coburn will be gone soon enough. We need his 4.5 million in cap space and if any of our Phantom "kids" are gonna get a chance to develope someone has to move. (unless you are counting on Mez and Gross crappping out again this year which is a distinct possibility)

Based on us never developing a dman, when was the last time we drafted and develop one? I do hope I'm wrong but I can't pretend to believe we will develop Morin into a no.1 pairing dman.

  2. Idaho... it is all about knowing the facts my friend. He was drafted in 2003 by Atlanta and then spent the next SEVEN years in their Org and/or affiliates along with the Winterhawks before being traded to Philly.

7years? drafted in 03 and traded to us in 07, did you know that fact?

  3. @murraycraven@OccamsRazor

Yes that is Coburn. He had all the same potential that Morin has, what worries me the most is the Flyers developing these dmans to max their potential. What are the chances of them getting the same thing out of Morin that they are getting from Coburn? I say highly. If Coburn was develped by another team, I can see them maxing out his potential. The Flyers just don't have the personnel to develop dmans or goalies.

  4. I beg to differ.

Last year in particular Rinaldo showed that he has the tools to be a hard hitting energy line player. He works hard, is not a liability in his own end and skates extremely well. Oh, and he was a 6th round pick.

I do agree that there was no need to draft Goulbourne in the 3rd and would prefer to have taken a player with a potentially higher career ceiling. Take him in the 6th by all means though.

He's ok to play in the regular season but come playoff crunch time do you trust putting him out there? If we are up by 1 goal or trailing by 1, he would be sitting on the bench. These types of players are being watch closely by refs now, if a clean hit looks questionable or a soso infraction occurs they will just penalize him. We don't need that come playoff time. I would likely give his spot on the bench in favor of a penalty killer or a faceoff specialist as that guy would be more important then a Rinaldo type player.

  5. From reading all the scouting reports and watching his video, I definitely like him and see a bright future on our blueline. My question is for those who watch these kids play. How is he compared to other dmans that were drafted b4 him in the 2nd round and I read the kid NJ took Santini had a higher upside then Hagg. What is the likely reason he dropped to us?

  6. Much as I love Rinaldo you don't really need more than one of that kind of player on your team.

You don't really need guys like him now in the NHL. Guys like him, Barnaby and Domi does nothing for you in the playoffs except become liabilities for taking bad penalties. The Flyers seriously need to stop drafting these knuckleheads so high. I wouldn't have a problem if they were 7th rd picks.

  7. @THG_Charlie: Trading down wouldn't have worked. Other teams liked him. RT @sbaickerCSN Canadiens apparently wanted the Flyers' 11th pick to pick Morin.

There was also a report that Montreal made a deal with Vancouver for the 9th pick to take Morin there. When Horvat was still available Vancouver did not want to pass him up. I've calm down since and will wait and see how he pans out, atleast they see their mistakes and are willing to change but who knows how long that will last. I know I was one of theany who complained that we took him too high but he was gonna go as high as 9th, that makes me feel alittle better.

  8. http://thehockeywriters.com/robert-hagg-the-next-ones-nhl-2013-draft-prospect-profile/

Robert Hagg is the best Swedish defenseman in this year’s draft class. He’s looked at as an all-around 2-way defenseman who can lay the body, but also put up points at a solid rate. Hagg is a guy you can hang your hat on to give it his all every shift on the ice. He’s been able to mix his scoring touch and defensive awareness together to make him a prized candidate on June 30th, 2013.

Hagg can lead the rush up ice and makes a quick (and accurate) first pass out of the zone. His skating is a premier asset and has been instilled in him since a very early age. He changes directions quickly, makes quick, agile movements, and always seems to be in position. He doesn’t get noticed much, which is a pretty good thing for defensemen. That means he makes very few mistakes with the puck on his stick.

    21. Robert Hagg, Defense, MODO (SEL)

Hagg is a really gifted defenseman who progressed as the season went on, going from the junior league to playing in the SEL although his performance was up and down throughout the campaign. Hagg has a real easiness to his game. He is a high-end skater, possessing an effortless stride and quick acceleration. He appears to glide when he is on the ice, with a high amount of offensive ability. He makes quality rushes, and he displays great puck movement in every zone. He is not a flashy puck handler, but he has good subtle hands, with the ability to make open ice maneuvers. He has a big shot from the point, and several NHL sources indicate that he frequently relies on that asset. Scouts are divided on Hagg's defensive play. One thinks it is his best asset, while another calls him a very well-rounded player, and yet others say his defense needs work. From my assessment, I do not think he is an exceptional defensive player. He is quality in his own end, but he does make the odd bad decision here and there. Still, there is a lot to like about Hagg. He has a great hockey brain, mobility, and solid physicality.

  10. Am I the only on that remembers we signed Streit? Puck moving defenseman - check. Big slap shot - check. PP quarterback - check.

Relax people... Jesus christian you can't have 6 puck moving defensemen and you need stay at home types.

I agree with you we can't have 6 puck moving defenseman but do we have any in our pipeline? We need to draft offense skill guys, these defensive defenseman are easier to get in the FA market. Tired of them drafting these types of guys with huge potential. Rememer Coburn? Look where he is now. Kevin Marshall and MA Bourdon also.

I do hope we are wrong on Morin but history of the Flyers developing these guys are not on our side let alone patience to wait for them to develop. We all are tired of watching them sign over the hill puck moving defenseman here or wouldn't want them to overpay for one in a trade.
