JHC another softy...oh man Petersen come on another short-side goal? That's just suck goaltending.

So he "was fixated on Malkin and surprised by O'Connor" - great. Another winnable game and this time goaltending may let it slip away...

Good to Foerster back though that's a relief.

On the bright side, Forrester being a pain in the Penguins side at this young stage of his career bodes well. 5 career Goals already against the Pens? Promising.

And that's why I'm more than willing to see Seeler moved for a 3rd - because he'll re-sign to a higher number and he'll fall off a cliff. As well, and I'm sure people are gonna go nuts when I say this, but guys like Seeler are a dime a dozen, especially at the trade deadline.

And as mentioned, Ginning is sitting in Lehigh Valley and he does the same thing that Seeler does.

You and I see Seeler differently. The guy only knows one way to play...balls to the wall 100% effort. If he survives the trade deadline, Seeler on the 2nd or 3rd pairing for a few years at 2 mill a year does nothing to harm the rebuild, but immensely helps the on ice product at a dirt cheap cap hit.

Ginning at 1 mill less and totally unproven does not provide 3rd in the NHL in shot blocking. If Ginning is that good, he'll get his shot as soon as someone gets hurt...without taking Seelers moxie out of the line up. Surely, in a physical team like Philly, there is room for both Seeler and Ginning.

  3. 1) This game has done nothing to subside my Drysdale is injury prone fears. That was not a dirty or savage it...I fear the shoulder is gonna be a problem.

This game however does feel like a changing of the guard. The old Flyers would have laid down and died at 4-2. Should they win...a nice gutsy comeback....and one that would not have happened without Fonzies leadership and helping them believe in themselves.

Any contender not in on Laughton for a 1st better check out this game tape. He makes the players around him better and is a LOAD on the pk! You NEED elite special teams to win the Cup!!

NHL players are washed up by 26, 27 everybody knows that. Not a single player has ever been productive once he hit 30 - except Jagr he's the only one. The Flyers aren't serious about rebuilding.

Washed up at 30? No, of course not...but it in and around the sweet spot where stats begin to decline and a long term deal signed 4 years ago starts to swing towards burden and out of the prime years. Every player is different, some kick butt well into 33-34 ish...and unicorns like Pavalski exist...but on average...30-31 is where things go South.

Well, now it's been reported that four teams are looking at trying to deal for Walker AND Seeler. Carolina, Minnesota, Winnipeg and Tampa Bay have made calls. The two combined are just over $3 million. That should be enough to get some great returns.

I still think Winnipeg is the best option, especially with the depth of prospects they have. If somehow the Flyers could convince Tampa Bay to give up Isaac Howard in any trade, that would be a great starting point. Not sure what Carolina or Minnesota could offer though....

I'm against giving up Seeler for a 3rd, which does not move the needle for me...but part of a package deal for a nice return? Yeah, sign me up.

Flyers made the Finals after getting in on the last day of the season.

    No, really, it happened once!

    :hyper:

It was Giroux scoring on the last penalty shot against the Yotes after OT solved nothing. I know cause directly after that I checked my boxes for the playoff pool. I selected all Flyers and Habs in the East and all Sharks and Hawks in the West. Of course, those were the 4 Conference final participants...I swept that thing and won a cool 1500.00

Especially ballsey picking Philly and Montreal, ranked last and 2nd last!

I think like the Kings, if the Flyers continue to rebuild they may step back and miss the playoffs next year. If I remember how that went correctly the Kings made the playoffs and were everyone's rebuild darlings then **** the bed for a year or two before really getting it together.

I can see a scenario like that playing out here. It might mean the Flyers are ready to compete for real in 25-26 or maybe a year later.

We'll see what happens in the near future, the deadline and moves around the draft will shed light on what we can look forward to.

The main driving force behind the Kings 2 Cup wins was certainly Quick playing out of his mind. Either Errson makes a gigantic leap forward (possible) or another Goalie steps to the forefront. This coming draft is vital after the Gauthier crap and Michkov uncertainty....they HAVE to nail this LARGE.

I don't like the idea of re-signing Seeler. The Flyers need to know what they have in Adam Ginning. As a former second round pick, we need to see if he can fill the Seeler role at the very least. This much we know about Ginning. The man can skate. The man is physical and he's got a bit of a mean disposition. If Seeler can net a third, that works.

I'm also onboard with moving Walker. He was a great throw in to the Provorov trade. It's time to maximize that asset and get something really good for the future.

I don't think moving those two is throwing in the towel either. There are players in the AHL that the Flyers need to see what they have. I'm good with the following pairings if the above moves happen:

    York - Drysdale

    Ginning - Sanheim

    Zamula - Attard

*****Ristolainen <- using him as 7 gives him a chance to heal up a bit after his recent upper body surgery.

The D looks ok...passable on paper, but there is something to be said for continuity. A big reason for their success is how the defensive partners play to each others strengths. I dont hold out hope for a long sustained playoff run, but at the same time, it would be a shame for the season to turn into a **** show.

Seeler is way more valuable than a 3rd. I think Seeler-Zamula might make a nice pairing should Walker get the boot (90% chance). Im thinking a 2 year deal for 2 mill a year would work for both parties. No long term investment and you know exactly what your 2 mill is buying.

I agree. That's why I'm so happy with the Flyers these days. They're clearly not pursuing "just make the POs." I don't understand why that's so hard to admit. Pretending Jones/Briere are just doing the same old story / same old song and dance ... is kind of silly imho.

I understand and appreciate that you don't like the way they're rebuilding. I respect a difference of opinion on the direction, especially from someone who knows the game well. But if there's no magic formula for building a Cup-winner (and there isn't), what's so terrible about something less than a complete tear-down? Questioning the direction is one thing; acting like nothing's changed is quite another, don't you think?

True but everything is a balance. You may disagree but there's enormous value to the team if they get to play some PO hockey this spring. They shouldn't (and they won't) sacrifice long-term goals but the Flyers' brass understand it's Year One and overachieving is a Good Thing not a bad thing.

I've recently read the Flyers are busy negotiating a new deal for Seeler. I'm quite happy with this development. Its the perfect way to stay competitive this year without sacrificing the rebuild.

1)Seeler will come cheap and I'm sure it will be a 1 or 2 year deal...totally acceptable.

2)They keep a key defensive piece that plays blood and guts Flyers hockey.

3)He realistically would have netted a 3rd...maybe a 2nd..more valuable to just keep him.

4)Assuming they move Walker having Seeler stay means the Defense won't take a crushing blow.

5)Its a great story and shows other FAs that hard work in the Flyers org gets rewarded.

He doesn't walk away with all that.

First taxes. Then management and agent.

He's not hurting but he's not free and clear with full value.

A question is was the $20M worth not getting a Cup? 🤔

Thats why Florida has such a huge advantage...no State tax. Seems like a throw in kinda thing, but when you start talking 10 or 15% of multi millions, its a huge advantage...not to mention the weather and women...lol.

Dale Hunter runs an exceptionally tight ship in London though. Veteran players will always get the preferential treatment they're because they know specifically what he wants. And don't forget that Easton Cowan was in the same boat as Barkey was. When everything clicked for Barkey and Cowan in the playoffs, that's when everyone started to take notice.

Do I think Barkey is the next Brayden Point? I doubt it. However, there's no reason to believe that he can't be a less abrasive Brad Marchand. I'm hopeful that they won't do the typical Flyers development plan and pigeon hole Barkey into a role. Develop his talent and see where he fits. Don't try to fit him into a spot in the system.

Dale has been through this process so many times its crazy! He knows EXACTLY when the light switches on for a prospect...in some cases, I'm sure within a few periods. If Barkey played for anyone else, hes drafted a few rounds later. Its his skill, but Hunter opens the door of opportunity.

A BIG thing to leap over kids and take minutes away from established Knights players during the playoffs.

I hope it works out for him; I really do. Kid has a great motor and reminds me of Kailer Yamamoto in positive and negative ways. Again; I have my little rules of thumb with hockey, and I know that means nothing, but he ticks some that tend to make me a cautious investor:

-Beware of players who really only start putting up a lot of offense in draft +1, because the best ones produce in their draft year. You'll get excited but they usually end up breaking your heart.

-Small guys who don't have an elite skill or two (most importantly speed) usually have a tough time in the NHL. Almost to a T, they're very smart and crafty, but the NHL is full of big and dumb guys who can neutralize them.

-Never get involved in a land war in Asia.

I tend to agree with those rules. They are more than reasonable.

Hopefully, Barkey becomes one of the exception to the rules!

I don't even remember the last losing season London had since the Hunters took over. They have easily built the most pre-eminent junior hockey franchise in Canada. Not only that, but they continuously put players into the NHL in all sorts of roles. It's ridiculous how well run they are.

It is pretty amazing. The Hunters know how to draft, trade and perpetually renew a roster! Literally everything they touch turns to Gold...very frustrating as a rival, but thankfully the Spits are no longer a division rival, thanks to the influx of American teams.

I mean, we've both seen that argument go both ways whenever it's convenient. Players on strong teams get their sled pulled by the big dogs, too.

Very true. Just hard to put up amazing stats when you are not on the top line or top pp. With those big dogs removed, Barkey is 3rd in OHL scoring, leads the OHL in short handed goals with 7 (was not on the primary pk last year).

Kids upside is first line C...but a more likely role is 2C or 3C. You can't put a price on wicked non stop effort...or where Torts will slot that non stop effort in the line up.

    I strongly doubt it.

So much has to swing right in these things. You have to draft the right guy AND hope he doesn't get derailed by injuries, etc, etc, etc.

Just about the only thing that Denver Barkey has in common with Brayden Point is his size. Point is small but has explosive speed; one of the two or three fastest players in the NHL. I looked up their respective numbers during their respective draft years in junior: Point outscored his next-closest teammate by 35 points. Barkey finshed 3rd in team scoring, 24 points behind the leader.

Small guys without a core skill which is elite are destined to be career minor leaguers or, if they catch on for awhile in the NHL, as depth players on league-minimum contracts. Without separation speed or incredible hands or a cannon shot, they're just too easy to neutralize because they're small guys in a big man's sport.

If Denver Barkey has a career like Derek Ryan, I would call that a success, given what he has in his toolbox.

This is pretty misleading. Points Moose Jaw team was horrible. A lot easier to be a great player on a God awful team (21-44-3), getting all the top line, pp minutes etc.

Barkey's Jr team, the London Knights were indeed a powerhouse, with strong Memorial Cup aspirations. Hard to put up huge stats when you have strong proven vets in front of you blocking the way. London's record was opposite of Moose Jaw's (44-22-2).

  16. Not directed at anyone in particular, BUT I find it both appalling and disgusting how a few months of winning Hockey somehow erases 1 playoff series win in 14 years.

TRADE ALL ****** THINGS that can someday return the Flyers to an actual top 5 team...LIKE OUR HISTORY DICTATES. Fans that give a **** about Walker and Seeler forget the COMPLETE AND UTTER SHAME OF BEING A LAUGHING STOCK. Those two are tools to reach THE goal...nothing more, nothing less.

In 2 or 3 years Cooter MIGHT be a serviceable 3rd line checking Center. We don't have a Clarke or Brindy....****, we don't have a Ken Linseman type of Center. All expendable parts should be moved to grind...scrape our way to a 1C.

Sure but they won't finish low enough to even get Catton is my point you're going to be on a wing and a prayer to find thar guy where they will draft I mean hey they did it late with Giroux so guess you can try to catch Lightning in a bottle twice.

But even some will argue that Giorux was never even that should have been 2C instead of 1C I'm not going down that road.

But getting a 1C where they draft ain't happening.

Unless barring Danny selling off everything and then the team taking a nose dive could always happen.

I can't see it they are shooting for the make the playoffs and anything can happen mantra.

LA Kings won a Stanely Cup as an 8th seed so why not us I where they are mentally.

    Just my 2 cents

Outside the box thinking needed. Trade picks and or players to move up...York and our 1st...Frost, 2nd rd, our 1st...stuff like that...2 1sts and a 2nd ....etc.

  18. 1 hour ago, RonJeremy said:

If we can somehow land a first for both Laughton and Walker, then we have our first and Fla's, that's four picks. That's some ammunition to trade up for a center. I'm still hoping we go into a tailspin after we trade Walker and Seeler and drop into the bottom ten. I'd like to come away from this draft with a big skilled center and a big skilled dman .

Exactly what I was talking about.

It is quite prossible that "the answer" is not in next year's draft.

Looking for "the answer" at #1C had the Sabres go whole hog on Ville Leino and Cody Hodgson - and bought out BOTH.

The idea isn't "find the next best available" solution, it's find THE RIGHT solution.

Agreed, the right solution is needed, but neither you nor I know for sure that this upcoming draft is not "right". Just because it comes first does not mean its not the way to go. Both Lindstrom and Catton are legit 1C's...totally different players but both oozing with talent.
