  1. Oh whoops I thought this thread was about mike Ricci when I read it and I was saying to myself "Ricci trade? Wasnt that for Lindros?"
  2. I think that much of the frustration (at least it it on my part) right is stemming from the fact that the stinking Rags are owning us and are the surprise success story of the year. Plus Bryz is a big flop so far.... We started out really well unexpectedly and now are playing more like the team we expected. The Rags are now Bona Fide Stanley Cup contenders while are having to deal with the reality of a young growing team which can't seem to beat good teams down the stretch. Having to watch the DISGUSTING Pens, Bruins, and Devils win the SC thelast few years has been super tough to take. Now if the Rags win it will be another punch in the gut. Hence the sarcasm in this thread.
  3. "If "ifs" and "buts" were candy and nuts, we'd all have had a great Playoffs.
  4. The problem is that this is Lavy's style and he is not going to change it. Just like Hitch's,Tort's, and Lemaire's style is the defensive smothering and they arent going to change it. Homer knew this when he hired Lavy and probably agreed with this style as this is the way the league is trying to direct teams. (You saw how well the Hitch style worked immediately post lockout). Since Homer hired this guy it is incumbent upon him to get players that work in this style I.E. responsible defensemen. He probably figured we were good with Pronger, Mez, and O'Donnell (last year) and Coby, he has Carle around for some puck moving offense and has to plug holes with the rest. Odie didnt pan out and Coburn has regressed, Pronger is out and Carle is not there to defend. MAB and Gus are still works in progress. He also thought that Bryz would clean up any mess left by the D. He didn't anticipate that Bryz was a mess himself (who did??). I don't blame Lavy. If anything it is somewhat Homers fault as this is what he wrought. Although I dont totally blame him either as things havent panned out the way he planned. He doesnt have a crystal ball and took some calculated risks, many of which have been great some not so great (BRYZ). We havent had much luck. Meanwhile look at the Rags, Lunkhead never played this well in goal before and the rest of those punks never played this well under Tort's system before. Somehow they have pulled it together, but before this year it wasnt all roses for them either. If the Flyers were smart they would use this year as what they originally planned, a rebuilding year. They have a nice young and affordable offensive core who play with heart, they need to address defense in the off season and see how Bryz does the rest of the year and into next year. Maybe he will get his crap together after one season under his belt and the off season. I think it would be a major mistake at this time to "go for it" this year as we just arent there yet but have a ton to build on. Lavy's system should work in the "new" NHL and they need to help him make it work.
  5. It just goes to show you that these stars and athletes are not the larger than life figures the media makes them out to be. They are just people like you and me who happen to be very talented in a highly publicized area of our society. As we know that money cannot buy you happyness it is easy to forget that their lives are not all a bed of roses. The pressure is immense on them and with the 24/7 media now a days we get to see how it affects them. The travel is a huge burden on them and their famlies too. As a side hobby I am a line umpire (linesman) for pro-tennis events including grand slams and I get to see a lot of behind the scenes stuff. It actually makes me glad I am not a pro athlete.
  6. Cant say I would be interested in watching unless the Leafs magically get better next year. Truthfully I have already grown tired of this gimmick.
  7. Yeah that Claude Lemiuex goal on Hexy is the epitome of the problem that we are discussing in this thread. If there was an entry about our goalie problems in the Flyers encyclopedia that goal very well could be the picture they use as that was a killer and series ender (even though that win didnt clinch it for the Devils). Although the Leigton Game 6 goal is a good candidate for this honor as well with the Leaf OT series winner vs Beezer. (So many choices unfortunately)
  8. Thats true about Hexy. People tend to forget that after the first year he was never exactly the same. He had quite his share of backbreakers in both tours of duty with us. His attitude and heart endeared himself to us and tended to cover up a lot of the bad stuff.
  9. In in 84-85 we still had Pelle. 85-86 is when we lost him and in 86-87 is when Hexy came into the picture. Od course we also went to the finals that year too.
  10. Never say never in 1985 we had a ton of rooks and were the youngest team ever and we went to th SCF. The big difference was that we had a great D and a real goalie.
  11. I have a cool story for you guys. As you well know from me spouting on about it ad nauseum I adore the mid 1980s Flyers. I talk about them on here all the time as they were and always will be "my guys" and my favorite Flyers teams until I see us win a Cup. I have spoken to several "my guys" by E-mail (including Dave Poulin and Brian Propp) and gotten some cool responses. I also have an on again off again e-mail conversations with the Flyers "Sign Man" Dave Leonardi. Through all this I have noticed the e-mail is a medium that well known people people seem to be very comfortable chatting with "the public" over so I thought I would use it to ask the Flyers for something cool. As you also may know I talk alot on here (and at the former Philly.com board) about the first game I went to in 1984 vs Gretz and the Oilers. One game got me completely hooked on hockey and spectator sports in general whereas before I had no interest. That game is special to me and I still think about it alot so I thought I would shoot Flyers Senior VP of Business Operations Shawn Tilger an E-mail asking for a video copy of that game. Well wouldnt you know it that within 5 mins this guy gets back to me and is really excited about honoring my request. He sent his staff to the Flyers and NHL archives to hunt down this game (I knew the date so that helped). They find it and burn a DVD for me and have it waiting for at the STH table last night. All day he kept e-mailing me at work telling me of their progress and of how they could get it into my hands. I was really impressed as Tilger could have passed me off to staffers immediatly but insteqd handled it personally and basically told me that because it was important to me it was important to them to make it happen. As a peasant STH who sits up in the nosebleeds I have been treated like a king by this organization time and time again and continue to be impressed by the coolness they show toward their fans...
  12. LOL those are my favorite guys the ones who yell shoot when there are 3 guys blocking the shooting lane ready to go come back on a 3 on 1 and score on Bryz. Although you are right last night we definitely could have used more "Shoot" fans as the Flyers are still passing up clear shots for the slam dunk pass.
  13. Yeah it only took 14 Mins to get our 1st shot on net. We gave a nice mock cheer last night when it finally happened. You guys better learn to win on home ice after a few years of ticket price freezes the price went up this year and we would like some more bang for our buck
  14. Exactly...I mean some will take comfort in his play last night and say NOW he is on track and then watch he will let in 5 laughers against rookies scoring their first NHL goals. I want to believe he is on track but I just dont trust him yet as he has proven to be pretty streaky himself.
  15. Post all star break hockey, We Welcome You!
  16. It would have been funnier if he swooped in as Superman and broke up a mock fight of a hockey player beating up on a guy plaing a cab driver and then went on to score.
  17. Yawn is Giroux even playing? I have heard his name once. At least Harts has an assist. Too bad that Rags seem to be starring so far. Well at least he finally got one. Harts got an assist on that one too.
  18. Who is going to be our guy in the second half and into the playoffs and why? Moderator Please move this to the Flyers section...somehow I put it in the CBJ section
  19. I hope he didn't get caught doing something and was blackmailed into giving this interview like Tiger Woods was for MH.
  20. Yes we won a shootout!! A broken clock is also right 2X a day! I believe that the not winning since 2005 is a bit of hyperbole from Lavi or Servali as we definitely won some SO's last year and you all remember how we got into the playoffs the year we went to the finals.
  21. Schenn is starting to look a bit better and really energized the team with his big hit today.
