  1. Daniel Alfredsson Jason Spezza Joffrey Lupul Milan Michalek Are you NHL fans serious????
  2. If this is the case then what happens to the POW trophy and the Campbell Bowl?? How do we know who gets what??
  3. http://www.nhl.com/ice/news.htm?id=604852 PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- The NHL's Board of Governors on Monday approved a radical realignment plan, eliminating the current two-conference, six-division setup in favor of a configuration that features four conferences based primarily on geography. Two conferences will have eight teams and the other two conferences will have seven teams. The Board authorized Commissioner Gary Bettman to implement this proposal in Monday evening's vote, pending input from the National Hockey League Players' Association. The vote, which required a two-thirds majority of the League's 30 governors, passed on the first of two days of meetings here at The Inn at Spanish Bay. The League's new structure will go into effect starting next season. The makeup of the yet-to-be-named four conferences is as follows: * New Jersey, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, New York Rangers, New York Islanders, Washington and Carolina * Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Florida and Tampa Bay * Detroit, Columbus, Nashville, St. Louis, Chicago, Minnesota, Dallas and Winnipeg * Los Angeles, Anaheim, Phoenix, San Jose, Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Colorado The four conferences are designed to alleviate geographic concerns among several current Western Conference teams that had been unhappy about their extensive travel through one, two, and sometimes even three time zones. Some of those teams argued that the late start of road games in the Pacific time zone were affecting fan interest, especially among younger fans. The new alignment also enables the NHL to create a balanced schedule in which all teams will play each other at least twice every season, once at home and once on the road, giving fans a chance to see every team and superstar in the League. The remaining games will be played within the conferences. In the seven-team conferences, teams would play six times -- three home, three away. In the eight-team Conferences, teams would play either five or six times in a season on a rotating basis; three teams would play each other six times and four teams would play each other five times. This process would reverse each season: An eight-team Conference member that plays an opponent six times in one season would play it five times the following season. The top four teams in each Conference qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The first-place team would play the fourth-place team; the second-place team would play the third-place team. The four respective Conference champions would meet in the third round of the Playoffs, with the survivors playing for the Stanley Cup.
  4. Goals I scored as a Philadelphia Flyer By Andreas Nodl, With forwards by Jiri Latal, Jiri Dopita, Magnus Roupe, and Murray Baron
  5. Well at least we solved the mystery! Homer would have gotten away with it too if it wasnt for those meddling loose bodies! (Scooby Doo reference for those who are scratching their heads).
  6. I have not heard anything, the last I saw he was modeling Jerseys for the Winter Classic...I feel bad for the guy as this situation must be killing him.
  7. WOW I cannot believe that Dale Hunter is a coach...I had no idea that he was coaching in London and that he had a good record. He was a consumate dirtbag on the ice. I will never forget how he ended our season in 1988 with a breakaway in game 7 of OT after we blew a 3-0 lead in the game and a 3-1 series lead. I also will never forget him destryoying Turgeon in 1993 while he was celebrating a goal. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xte-Vtxg-m8 As for Boudreau I was surprised but when I step back and think about it I do recall the reports about a rift between him and Ovary abd I guess where there is smoke there is fire...At least Boudreau can go back to his old role on the Addams Family
  8. How ironic that we get shut out today....
  9. I hope that is it and if so why the "mystery" label??? It is not like the other teams gain a competitive advantage by knowing the virus type. It was handled in a weird way by the team which is why it raised some suspicions in me.
  10. OK so what is really going on here? The last time I heard of a an athlete with a Mystery virus it turned out to be a cover for something else which turned out to be a stress related illness. I don't thing prongs has that but it is pretty concerning as they are not saying what this virus is or what the timetable is for return. Maybe it is something embarrassing like hemorrhoids something??? At this point it is beyond suspicious as he is doubtful for today vs the Rags.
  11. The latest incarnation of the "We welcome you" thread, We welcome you... Also Harry Houdini, we welcome you... (I put that because that was the example Bak used when creating this thread on the original board...it is a kind of homage)
  12. My joy in playing for the Columbus Blue Jackets... By Jeff Carter
  13. The talking heads on the radio tell me that due to the Flyers cap problems Schenn likely will not make an appearance during this rash of injuries. Aziz of course can comment on this much better than I. Like you I am impressed with the scoring and wonder if they can keep this pace up all year. Also the defense needs to tighten it up a bit. I am looking forward to and dreading at th same time the next home game vs the Pens as this should give us an idea as to where we wre realistically. Last time I said that the caps bashed our heads in.
  14. What????? Not Crosby??? Are you kiding me??? Giroux sucks next to Sid who is CLEARLY the MVP after 3 games back from injury!
  15. As a fellow human being my reaction is yea! good for him; glad he is not having to use a colotomy bag. As a Flyers fan however my reaction is BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Cindy still sucks! I hate him and the lousy Pens! That is all....
  16. Soooo jealous of you, would love to have been there! I couldnt even see it because we didnt get cable int he suburbs yet...I listened on the radio and was amazed by the noise coming out of it. I still remeber watching the highlights on the local news over and over again! Sadly I was able to see game 7 on Philly 57 and would rather forget that game.
  17. For me it has to be my first game ever because that is what got me into Hockey in the first place. As an 8 year old boy at the time I never cared for sports in general until that day but after that game somehting awoke in me that I never knew existed and changed me forever. Hockey instantly became my favorite sport and the Flyers my favorite team. I immediately tried to figure out how to get to more games and how to follow the Flyers as I had never followed any team before. No gentlemen, unless I attend a game where the Flyers win and skate the cup, November 11th 1984 Flyers Vs Oilers at the Spectrum will always be my favorite game (box score below) because of the feeling I got and the impact it had on me and still does to this day. http://www.flyershis...re.cgi?19840150 Here are my second and 3rd choices 2nd choice : April 10th 1988 Flyers Vs Captials Patrick Division Semifinals. This was the 1st year my family had season tix and we were going to the playoffs. I had been to a playoff game in 1985 vs the Nordiques and we lost I had been to one on April 9th vs the Caps that we won, but nothing could prepare me for the excitement of my first playoff OT win in the 3rd Playof game I had ever attended. . Long story short, the Flyers were down 2-1 going into the 3rd period. The Craps scored 2 quick goals early in the 3rd. I was so pissed and wanted to leave but my good old dad would not have any of it. Half way through the 3rd Mark Howe gets one back 5 minutes later it is a 1 goal game! In the last minute of play Kjell ties the game!!! 1:07 into OT Craven wins it! WOW what a feeling, yeah it was first round but wow what a memory! http://www.flyershis...ore.cgi?1988004 Finally my 3rd choice has to be Games 3 of 2010 SCF vs the Blackhawks. That was my first SCF game attended and what a win with Giroux scoring in OT! I really thought we were going to ride that wave of momentum all the way to the cup...I am still scratching my head asking what the heck happened in game 5 of that series??? There are many honorable mentions in there and hundreds of duds but these 3 stand out as milestones to me.
  18. You and me both!!!!!...I was born just after Cup #2 was won and the Poulin Propp and Kerr teams were my first exposure to the Flyers (and hockey) and I fell in love, really hard with them as an 8 year old boy. I have loved the Flyers ever since but never as much as the 1985-1987 teams. Those guys were bigger than life to me and they captured my immagination. If they ever invent the holodeck (as seen in Star Trek the next generation) I plan to program it to re-live through 1985-1987 to feel what it would have been like to win those cups vs the Oilers (and to save Pelle's life too).
  19. Wow that is awesome. Too bad I dont fit into my #2 Howe jersey from 1986 anymore. I still have it though! This will prevent #2 from being insulted like it was when Lukas Krajicek sullied it with his poor play. (BTW when Modry wore #26 I was so disgusted I emailed Brian Propp at his website expressing my distaste and he thanked me so much for this sentiment and for my support) Yea Howe!!!! I love that Flyers from that era are getting some recognition.
  20. I'm pretty sure it was Jiri Latal (major sarcasm alert)
  21. He was my favorite player when I was a little kid (Partially because he shared the surname name of an author of a book I was reading at the time of my 1st hockey game called The Celery Stalks at Midnight) back in November of 1984. My 1st Flyers jersey was a #2 Howe that I wore proudly for many years and still have today in a garbage bag in my basement. He was such a great defender and could score some nice goals on the PP 2 with his shot from the point. I loved that he wore the A and thought he and Brad Marsh were great alternate captains to Poulin. As a little kid I used to say to myself "How does Howe do it?" while watching the him at the Spectrum..I used to think this was quite witty as an 8 year old! Now I am 35 and he is in the Hall of Fame, dang that story just made me feel slightly old Anyway I digress Congrats to Mark Howe, the only HHOFer from my absolute favorite Flyers teams (1984-1988). If only we had won the cup in 85 and 87 I bet Propp and Kerr would be in there too. That is pretty good company he is in with (Clarke, Barber, and Parent). Does this mean we will see a retired #2 at some point?
  22. It is my pleasure to bring this thread over! In honor of the Lightning game how about this one.... Interesting hockey by Guy Boucher...with a forward by Jaque Lemaire
  23. Seriously!!! I am shocked that we cant get Hexy in here for this. Especially since Brian Propp and my Namesake, and Kjell are playing in this game. It is kind of sad that we cant get Tim Kerr in there...he is probably too broken down.
