Taylor Hall is on the move.

Again.

The Buffalo Sabres have dealt the well-travelled winger and forward Curtis Lazar to the Boston Bruins in exchange for forward Anders Bjork and a second-round draft pick, according toHockey Insider Darren Dreger.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun notes that the Sabres retained 50 per cent of Hall's salary to make the deal happen.

Hall was an unrestricted free agent coming off an effective 2019-20 season but elected for a short-term deal with the Sabres in October, reaching a one-year, $8 million pact to form what many anticipated would be a high-powered offensive duo alongside Jack Eichel. But the Sabres were sidelined earlier in the season with COVID-19 issues and struggled mightily in the first half of the season, ultimately sending Hall back out onto the trade market.

The 29-year-old has two goals and 17 assists in 37 games so far this season.

This is the third time Hall has been traded since being the No. 1 overall pick by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2010 NHL Draft. The Calgary native was first traded from the Oilers to the New Jersey Devils in a one-for-one exchange with defenceman Adam Larsson. Just over three years later, Hall was on the move again, this time from the Devils to the Arizona Coyotes in a deal that involved four other players and two conditional draft picks.

A native of Calgary, Hall’s best season came in 2017-18 when he won the Hart Memorial Trophy for posting 39 goals and 54 assists for 93 points in 76 games on an otherwise offensively challenged Devils squad.

Hall will be an unrestricted free agent once again after the 2020-21 season.

The 26-year-old Lazar has scored five goals and four assists over 33 games with the Sabres this season, his second year with the club.

Over 317 career games with the Ottawa Senators, Calgary Flames and Sabres, Lazar has 25 goals and 45 assists.

The 24-year-old Bjork has two goals and three assists over 30 games with the Bruins this season, his fourth with the club.

This deal will only make me happy if the bruins can re-sign him. I'm ok with giving up Bjork, he's had 4 seasons to prove he belongs here and he can't stay in the line up.

The second rounder would be fine if hall stays...perhaps he's gonna realize he is no longer on a horrid edmonton team, jersey, the desert or a directionless buffalo squad.

He's in a hockey market, he's still young and his talent has not vanished, perhaps now he will remember that he's taylor hall.

Bjork for Lazar is a wash, speed for speed, both playing less than capable.

  • Senators trade defencemen Reilly, Coburn

The team announced they are trading Mike Reilly to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2022 third-round pick and Braydon Coburn to the New York Islanders for a seventh-round pick in 2022.

TSN.ca Staff

The Ottawa Senators are shipping off a pair of defencemen.

The team announced they are trading Mike Reilly to the Boston Bruins in exchange for a 2022 third-round pick and Braydon Coburn to the New York Islanders for a seventh-round pick in 2022.

The 27-year-old Reilly has played in 40 games this season with the Sens and has zero goals and 19 assists.

It's the third time in the last two years and change he's been traded. Reilly went from the Montreal Canadiens to the Sens in January of 2020 in exchange for forward Andy Sturtz and a fifth-round pick in the 2021 draft. He also was dealt by the Minnesota Wild to the Habs in exchange for a fifth-rounder in 2019 in February of 2018.

He was selected in the fourth round (No. 98 overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft.

Sweeney not giving up a first and getting buff to pay 50% of a a guy who could walk at the end of the year is just awesome.

Hopefully, get him to sign a prove it deal, then hammer out an extension.

Posted elsewhere, Brewin, but let me get this straight.....

Leafs give up a first and fourth for Foligno

Bruins give up a second and Bjork for Hall and Lazar.

This is why the Bruins are the Bruins and the Laughs are the Laughs.

If hall rediscovers his game, then this makes sweeney look like a genious.

The Bruins are going for it.  And why not?!  They had all the pieces in place to win it all this year even before the season started, and with this acquisition, they moved even closer.

My Flyers, on the other hand.... what a disappointment.  The season that had so many hopes and expectations...  Just unbearable.

Taylor Hall, other trade additions making immediate impact for Bruins

Before the NHL trade deadline Taylor Hall and the Boston Bruins both looked like they were desperate for some major changes.

Hall needed a different team and another fresh start after a miserable season in Buffalo, both individually and on a team level.

The Bruins needed another scorer to balance out a lineup that has been too reliant on just one line.

It has only been two games but so far it looks like both sides are already getting exactly what they needed.

Hall scored a goal for the second game in a row for the Bruins on Friday night in a 3-0 win over the New York Islanders, helping him match his total in three games with the Bruins versus what he did in 37 games with the Sabres.

The Bruins are now 3-0-0 since the trade that brought them Hall and Curtis Lazar, outscoring their opponents by a 10-3 margin. The past two games, though, have been the most impressive as they completely dominated a very good New York Islanders team that is ahead of them in the East Division standings. Boston controlled the past of both games with Hall and Lazar combining for three of the Bruins’ seven goals in the two wins.

If Boston is going to make some noise in the playoffs this season that is exactly what they are going to need.

All season the bulk of the Bruins offense has come from the trio of David Pastrnak, Patrice Bergeron, and Brad Marchand. When those three are not on the ice or carrying the offense, there has been nobody else to do it. Even though Hall had a terrible run in Buffalo, there is plenty of evidence that he should be able to bounce back (high shot numbers; low shooting percentage due that should increase with some better luck).

But while Hall and Lazar have made contributions offensively, the Bruins have also been able to get some major minutes out of their other — and perhaps more overlooked — addition, defenseman Mike Reilly.

Reilly has played more than 22 minutes in each of his first three games after being acquired for a late-round pick from the Ottawa Senators and has been great in those minutes. The returns are early, but so far it looks like Don Sweeney should be pretty happy with the moves he made. Especially when it only cost him Anders Bjork, a second-round pick, and a seventh-round pick.

For me the Hall trade is one of the most interesting things happening in the NHL right now - outside the Wild, of course. Hall has always played in teams that are losing. What will happen to an accustomed to losing SOB (sorry Hall, but that's what he looks like and that's what the impression on him seems to be) when he gets the opportunity to play for a team that could go far, with some luck even to the Cup? Will he be able to pull his face off his ass and become a true player? He'll face a lot of adversity, if the Bruins have a good playoffs run. It's a bit like Laine over in CBJ. Will Laine be able to learn some defending, and become actually useful to his team? Can these selfish SOB's learn to be team players? I'd expect the both of these players to have it in them, but we'll see.
