Well with a breakaway you are allowed a complete stop so it'd be a tad bit harder to stop someone there than in a shootout

Agreed. Also, on a breakaway the goalie has to be wary of the rebound (either by the initial shooter or possibly someone following up--or even bouncing off a defender). Not so, obviously, on the shootout.

The comparison kind of ends with "one on the goalie."

Plus (just for @hf101), the breakaway during the game isn't nearly as boring as the shootout.

Really, I still blame the 5 skaters more than the 1 goalie

You had 90 minutes to score those goals and that same amount of time to not leave that poor goalie hanging in numerous situations.

Now if you're getting beat by easy shots and dump ins then maybe your goalie is the problem.
