jammer2
Wow, seems like Welly is back on the ice pretty quick considering the severity of the injury. This is great news. He's went out skating 7-8 times now. I'm sure playing in an AHL team is a long time away, but great to see Eric progressing quickly. Eric is helping out the Spits, he's mentoring/coaching the penalty killing troops. I'm sure he will pass along a lot of knowledge. It's a huge relief to have him remain part of the org. Hard to believe he's already 23. If his skating comes back to 100% (we can only hope) he will stick forever one of these days. I still believe in this kid. He can do so much more than what we have seen. http://blogs.windsorstar.com/2013/09/16/recovering-wellwood-helps-spits-penalty-killers/
pilldoc
Here's to a speedy recovery. Glad he is skating again. I just think IMO that Lavy did not use him quite right. I hope gets a 2nd chance somewhere.
EDI-Flyer
@jammer2 That is great news to see him back on the ice and skating at least. Time will tell whether his foot speed has been impacted severely or not by the injury, which may determine his future career prospects. To me, if he recovers his ceiling is probably 3rd line winger/PK specialist but would love to be proved wrong. I do think he has more to offer than what we have seen so far... jammer2
@EDI-Flyer I would tend to agree EDI, I see him as a 3rd or 4th liner, and being active on the pk. He needs his speed to come back full though, if he's to have a shot. I do think he can score 15 goals if he plays regular, and provide a tenacious forecheck. The hands are there, he needs experience and confidence.
EDI-Flyer
He needs his speed to come back full though, if he's to have a shot This ^^^^^^ is the key. If he recovers fully he has a good chance of a career IMO. If not a few years of AHL or overseas leagues before retiring seems more likely. Great to see him getting involved in the coaching side of things, it's another opportunity should things not work out on the playing front. And if he does get back I think it will help his understanding of the game.
canoli
thanks for the link Jam - great to hear Wellwood is making progress. Even though it's been a long time since his injury it was such a nasty one I'm surprised the guy is skating.
