hf101
Major blow to the lightning as Victor Hedman will likely miss 4 - 6 weeks as he will have surgery tomorrow for a fractured finger as reported by TSN. "We're going to test our depth" Cooper said. "It just puts a little more pressure on the "D" core as a whole, but we played two - thirds of the game without and I thought our guys stood pretty strong" Last year the Lightning matched the test with Stamkos out can they do the same without Hedman? TropicalFruitGirl26
Surgery and 4-6 weeks is SUK... That said, if there were a time for certain D-men to step up, now is the time. Mark Barberio, who has been a healthy scratch since the start of the season, will see more ice time now....as will Eric Brewer (who wasn't happy to have his ice time limited when Hedman, Gudas and the rest of the D were healthy), as well as a few guys in the minors, who may be getting calls (Luke Witkowski is one.... JP Cote could be another)....all will have a chance to show they are worthy of playing NHL games. NONE of those guys are Victor Hedman quality defenseman, I think we can all agree, but the whole schtick behind Jon Cooper is the TEAM concept..and the Lightning weren't going to win ANYTHING this year without playing as a team anyways. So there you go, TB Lightning. Your best defenseman is out. When the best forward was out last year, the other forwards stepped up their games and some became true, legit NHL players (Johnson and Palat)...now it's the defense's turn. Stralman, Garrison, Carle, Brewer...let's see those veteran stripes now.Sustr, Barberio, Gudas, Cote, Witkowski.....or anyone else called up or in, now is your chance...don't blow it.Everyone plays up to their capabilities, and plays as a team, the sum CAN be greater than the parts used to get there. Get well, Victor, the team will hold the fort till you get back...then it's playoff run time!
