WordsOfWisdom
Dec. 3: TOR vs VAN Van Riemsdyk, Marner, Polak Rielly (Shootout) Final score: 3-2 (SO) VAN. 1: Three Leafs caught in no-man's land, far too deep in the zone, covering none of the Canucks three shooters out at the points. 2: Rielly's high risk/high reward play results in a turnover that leads to the second Vancouver goal. Frustrating loss for Toronto because they outplayed Vancouver for most of this game.

I can't believe they picked Bozak as our third shooter. I've never understood the shootout selections. Most of the time teams do not select their best offensive players. A shootout involving the Leafs should have: Marner, Nylander, Matthews, JVR, and Kadri. It's not just the Leafs either. Whenever I watch a shootout, I notice big name players being omitted or left out until the 5th or 6th shooter... meaning there was a chance they never would have got a shot. Strange. WordsOfWisdom
Dec. 7: TOR vs MIN C. Carrick, Kadri C. Carrick, Gardiner Bozak, Zaitsev Final score: 3-2 MIN. 1: Miscommunication and giveaway behind the net. 2: Straight through the middle of the Leafs "defence" (and I use that term loosely). 3: Turnover by Bozak to prolong zone time, but Zaitsev's guy is able to make the pass out in front of the net. (Someone needs to help Rielly out on this play.)

I think we should tank again from here on in by trading away anyone and everyone that isn't going to be part of the core of this team going forward. We need more draft picks. Look at what we got with Marner, Matthews, and Nylander. Huge plus. We need the same thing on defence.
BluPuk
Yah, it seems there are a few players who don't want to fit in or buy in to the hard work for 60 minutes school of thinking. That simply won't work - we need all the horses pulling at the same time. We are currently in 25th place in the league overall and if we go on a win streak (which is possible) we could put ourselves right into the worst place in the standings - the middle. Where you have no chance of winning a play-off round and also no chance of winning the lottery..... Maybe we should tank....

Tanking has rewards. Imagine the roster that the Leafs could assemble with a few strategic moves at the trade deadline. We ship out some combination of Bozak, Komarov, Polak, and JVR, and in exchange we get a solid defenceman that can play right now, and a few draft picks to add to the collection + another lottery pick. The Leafs could really turn things around in a big way.

Final score: 3-1 COL. 1: Penalty by Bozak. 2: Penalty by Van Riemsdyk. Horrendous defensive breakdown by Brown and Rielly. 3: No DE is charged on an empty net goal. I figured this would happen. WordsOfWisdom
Dec. 13: TOR vs SJS Polak, Hunwick, Hyman Hunwick (Shootout.) Final score: 3-2 (SO) SJS. 1: Tricky play to score here. Basically Polak and Hunwick both over-commit with bad pinches and take themselves out of the play without eliminating anyone. Hyman takes his sweet time coming back and before you know it the Sharks have completely broken down the Leafs defence. 2: Hunwick with the penalty, costs the Leafs almost immediately. 3: No DE on shootout goals. Another shootout loss by the Leafs and 2 points evaporates again. Please engage tank mode from here on in...

Final score: 3-2 (SO) ARI. 1: A poor line change to be sure, but Rielly, Brown, and Marner manage to circle around off to the right of Andersen and cover nobody. 2: Ben Smith with the penalty. (The first of the two for the 2-man advantage.) 3: No DE on shootout goals. Another shootout loss. Finding ways to lose games and once again doing it with ex-Leafs players leading the charge.
