Daddy says that Miller will go off the reservation if the Blues play against those stinky Kings in the play offs. Ott better step up and Reeves needs to beat up a few Kings. Maybe Miller won't be a cry baby this year. I could beat up that stupid stocking cap he wears with his suit, but it might smell like a jock that has marinated in a closed hockey bag kept in a hot car for a week. I'll stick with my doo rag.

  2. My boy Vladdy Tarasenko scored last night. There weren't enough fights, but at least my boys in Blue beat up them country music loving inbred hicks in Nashville. Miller has weird hair, but is less of a drama queen than Halak. Reeves needs to fight a lot more, Ott needs to draw more penalties, but in all, the Blues smell like fresh laundry and the Predators smell like jock straps that have marinated in a closed hockey bag sitting in a hot car for a week.

    Yay Blues!!!!!

What do you need to know? Jack Straw did have an amusing list, I admit.

    I will add the following:

    1) The NHL actually hates the Blues. Last season during the Stanley Cup round against the LA Kings, all games started for a West Coast Tele schedule (two hours later). There were also some dubious penalties assessed against the Blues when pursuing players (giving the Devils Scott Stevens, for example when it came to a so-called tampering that netted the signing of Brendan Shannahan).

    2) The Blues have always been good enough to get in the playoffs but never good enough to win the Cup. The Blues finally got the message to suck badly after the lock out previous to this one and get some draft picks.

    3) The Blues have had so much financial insecurity over their 45 year run that it's a miracle that they have not folded over the years. They almost moved to Saskatoon in the '80s, and had very odd sweaters for a long time period through the mid '80s-the mid to late '90s. The bad unis should have caused them to fold...

    4) The Blues have not been in a Stanley Cup final since 1970.

    5) Maybe the Blues will win the Cup this year, but don't hold your breath.

    6) Trixie the bunny (the rabbit in my avatar) gives great reports on the Blues, but she has been slacking lately.

    7) But the Blues are loveable.

It is always mind blowing when a great player gets traded. My first full winter in America and Mike Liut was traded. Then many inexplicable trades. Most of my favourite players on the Blues were traded so that they could have a chance to win a Cup. I remember when Keith Tkachuk was traded in a rental situation to Atlanta literally for a playoff run. Then he re-signed in St. Louis in July!!!

Halak was playing more than Elliot at times, Elliot would get a couple of games in a row. Being that Halak and Miller are in similar places in contracts, it could be that Miller and Halak are late season rentals.

Since Halak and Elliot neither one were worth a spit versus the West Coast, it made sense to make a move in net. 15 years ago, there was a dearth of talented goalies, and the Blues seemed to be a goal tender away from a Cup. There are more talented net minders than in years past, for certain. This year, I am still uncertain that we have the right mix. Oshie needs to be traded for a game breaker, IMO.

  5. The fascination with altering my curves went all the way back to Mites Hockey, when my pops would shape a blade from a straight Northland stick. When I got to Bantam level, I had perfected my curve for my shot, yet it evolved all the way into Junior hockey.

Fast forward to now- I have lost a LOT of this knowledge, and it is 'cos I stopped caring twenty plus years ago. My slap shot can be stopped by most kittens. My wristers are still decent, but lack power, not accuracy. I can't really flex a stick.

It seems that I am now a defenseman. I started life as a defense-minded left winger on the checking line. My slap shot from the point gets stopped easily. But I can break up a play and win the battles behind the goal on the boards. I am officially a grinder, and I love it.

But I did have an epiphany- modding an Iginla curve to be more open with some heel curve made my clearing passes less prone to being picked off. I can do high saucer passes. My wrister is slightly more potent. Roll my wrist down and I can fool the people who think they will expect a high saucer pass.

We can't let wooden blades and component sticks go away. How else can I figure out my curve? What other way can I experiment?

I think Miller would cost too much for the seemingly little return we'd get. You're right about a scorer- the Blues are composed of good little worker bees with no superstar in sight.

    @Polaris922

Yes, you're right; however, the Blues have had this tendency to slump in weird, weird ways. We can clobber Colorado, we can beat Chicago, but The Kings and the Ducks mystify us, and the Canucks have beat us three times. The Blues haven't had a real losing streak this season, but the record against West Coast teams is abysmal. That is who would be in the way of a Cup.

And i PRAY the Blues won't be first overall, as that President's trophy is a CURSE.

  7. Am I the only one who thinks stopping the NHL for three weeks is silly and pointless? Thank G'd a few of my Blues are in the Olympics so I can keep up with them (the games are on at the weirdest times), but I really don't care about the Olympics as much as i do my St. Louis Blues!!!!

I think we should petition the Olympics to go back to amateur athletes so that my Blues aren't interrupted every four years.

A transplanted Bristolian welcome to you!!! Arrrrrroight?

I have been in the States for a long time. Still can't wrap me head around American Football (Super Snooze Bowl). Love me Bristol City real football team. Hockey is the uniquely North American sport that has all of the elements a football fan can embrace in a small, frozen surface.

You picked an original expansion team that has had a great rivalry with an original six team. In the '70s and '80s, Isles/Ranger games were UGLY.

Unlike football in England, teams in the NHL do not move up and down in leagues. As many times as I have thought that some teams need to move down into a lesser league, that never happens. I was excited when a few years back, I though my City team would move up. The divisions are geographical in the NHL. The NHL is the Premier League.

I have been quite Americanised, as I have been here for a long, long time. Welcome, matey!!!!!
