Two posts... The Rangers have no forwards as it is, they have good young defensemen to offer. If we offer Schenn as the centerpiece along with simmond and something else, how can the Rangers top that? I dont see anaheim dumping Ryans 5 million dollar contract for Briere who makes similar $$ and is ten years older. I think they are looking to rebuild with youth and lower contracts.

I will take it back a few years.....we draft Jagr instead of Ricci, we keep Forsberg and all those players and picks, instead of trading for Lindros. We have a line of Forsberg Jagr and Le Clair.... WE PROBABLY WIN THE CUP

What about Schenn, Simmonds and a pick for Ryan. Ryan is a right wing, he replaces Simmonds. Then we have to dump salary. So its going to have to be a multi team deal or something. Hartnell's value is at an all time high, but the Ducks wont want him, so he would have to be moved to another team, for another winger , who is young and cheap . Of course we need defense more than anything, but Holmgren said there isnt many dmen around.

Yes that trade still burns me up to this day. Emminger was not even in Washingtons future plans, they were going to dump him, he was a fill in player for them. Holmgren gives up a first rounder, and they pick Carlson a big righthanded dman with PP skills, something we could certainly use right now.

I agree thats what we need the most, but Ryan was bornto be a Flyer, just wish we could have gotten him ...

We have been after Bobby Ryan for years and now he is available, too bad he wasnt avaialble in the offseason, maybe we could have dumped Carter for him. What do you think of giving up Schenn, Simmonds and a second rounder for Ryan? I know we need defense more than anything ,epecially with Pronger injured again, but this might be our only shot at Ryan, who the Flyers have coveted for years.

He will get healthy again in a month..........for how long before the next injury. This is something that has to be faced sooner or later. Pronger cant be counted on to be healthy all of the time and he is our only threat on the PP as well. Cap space needs to be cleared to get another dman, then we better do it. Pronger is old and breaking down,and we need another dman, not only as insurance for Pronger but for the immediate and the future. Do we want to take a chance that Pronger gets hurt at year end ,so we can get knocked out in the first round again?

Suter is an UFA, and Weber is an RFA with one year left after this year, their goalie Renne, is also an UFA. Nashville cannot afford to pay those guys,so one defenseman has to go. If Nashville re-signs Suter, then they have no $$ for Webber, so my guess is they dump Suter and try to re-sign Webber. So I think Suter is avaialble ,unless someone makes a huge offer of 3 or 4 players for Webber. I know Bogosian re-signed, but I did hear he was being shopped, I dont really know what Winnipeg needs and if we can fil lthat need , but The flyers need to trade from our strenght ,which is offense and look for a team that has excess defense. NAshville is one of those teams..

Id target Suter from Nashville who is an UFA, Id ask about Weber RFA, Nasville will obviously try to keep one of them. Maybe Zac Bogosian from Winnipeg, he was rumored to be available. There are some other teams that have good young dmen , Ottawa, Columbus and PHX. I wouldnt trade JVR, The only young prospect that will get us a blue chip dman is Schenn. I wouldnt trade him for Suter, since he is an UFA, and we can possibly target him in the offseason, or trade draft picks for him and pre-empt the other teams, like we did in the Timmo /Hartnell deals. The only way I trade Schenn is for a young dman who is as highly rated but has played in the NHL . Winnipeg supposedly was shopping Bogosian, what would it take to land him

Someone suggested trading Briere, that might be a good idea, Schenn can step in as the second line center. The only problem with Briere is his contract and limited trade clause . The other option is trading a guy like Schenn for an equally highly rated young dman, Or trading Bob for a dman. Maybe Nashville gives us Suter who is an UFA, or maybe a guy like Zac Bogosian on Winnipeg.

Pronger is injured again, so we are going to have to make a trade. We cant afford to go a full month with, Bourdon, Marshall or Matt Walker, if he clears waivers. Holmgren needs to realize we rely too much on Pronger and and Timmo and they are both old and Prongs is starting to break down. The question is , who is avaialble and at what price. i hope Holmgren doesnt get strong armed and overpay for some typical old washed up stiff. We need a young top 2 or 3 dman, not only for now ,but for the future, since its obvious we cant rely on Pronger to play a full season any more.

Wait and see, Holmgren will get fleeced and overpay for some washed up stiff. Other teams know we are desperate and we will pay through the nose for a dman. As i have been saying for 2 years, we need another good dman and we cant keep relying on Pronger and Timmo.

The Rangers defense shut us down totally, no good scoring chances, no rebounds, no sustained attack. The Rangers are only giving up an average of 2 goals against per game, and with a great goalie like Lundquist , they are going to win alot of tight checking games.I have no idea why everyone says the Flyers have the best defense in the league. We were 10th or so last year and are similar this year. I still think we need another good all around dman.

Bourdon looked good again, nice passes,solid D and a few big hits. With Lilja out for 2 weeks this is his big chance to show what he can do.

One thing i noticed against ISLES, Bordon threw the most punishing hits of all our dmen.

In my opinion adding another top dman helps us in many ways. First off we are giving up too many goals Secondly, whenever Pronger goes out the PP falls apart, Prongs and Timmo are at the end of their careers, so we need a young #1 or #2 guy , PP or not Some of you guys say we have the talent to have a good PP, well maybe we do, but the PP has been crap for the last 3-4 years. So when do we come to the realization that the PP is decent with Pronger and horrible without him and we need another playmaking ,accurate shooting dman. Aziz talked about the talent up front and we should work the PP from that area, but i think if we add another dman with puck skills and a shot, that jsut makes us even more effective on the PP. Teams dont really worry about our dmen beating them so they key on the forwards, if we had a canon at the point now they have to worry about that too. I think we still need another top dman, not only for the PP , but overall. Last year everyone said the Flyers have arguably the best defense in the league, meanwhile we were 10th or so in goals against, so how is that the best defense? We added Mezarros and he was good last year, but the PP still stunk, our forwards are as skilled as any, so who do we blame for the poor PP? As I said , why are JVR and Richards(last year) on the point for our PP? The answer is obvious , our dmen cant shoot. If Lavvy didnt think having another big point shot was that important, he wouldnt be putting forwards on the point. \ Bottom line we need a good young all around dman, not only for now, but for the future.

We still want to try and win a cup no matter what is going to happen down the road with CBA, buyouts,etc. I dont see us winning a cup with the defense and PP we have. I know we nned to clear lots of space to go after Webber, so then waht about Suter or trading for a good young dman. You have to figure Timmo and Prongs have two good years left, so we do need to get them some help, or we will be faced with a real problem 2-3 years from now. Even if we gotr lucky and drafted a couple of top dmen, its takes 2-3 years before they are NHL ready, and more years after that beofre they are a factor.

Its minor changes not overhauling. The team is a work in progress up front ,but the defense is all veterans ,what you see is what you get. Carle isnt suddnely going to develop a blistering shot and Coburn is not going to turn into Bobby Orr. The most painfully apparent situation is the fact that our top 2 dmen are old, and Prongs is the only guy a good point shot and goal scoring ability. We need a young #1 or #2 dman, not another Lilja type guy. We cant have the PP collapse every time Prongs is out, becasue as he gets older, he is not going to play more games,he will play less games. Schenn is a great player ,but he is a top 2 line type of guy, so there really is not anywhere for him to play right now. Im not saying to trade him for the sake of it, but if Shea Webber is on the block, Id offer Schenn and more for him. imagine our defense with Prongs and Webber. As far as Carle goes, if Gustafsson looks good, it softens the blow of trading Carle, because we will lose him after this year,so we have choice ,keep him for the playoffs, or trade him at the deadline . Maybe we can also swing a deal for Suter since he is an UFA, do the same type of deal we did when we got Timmo and Hartnell. No matter what this team needs help on defense.

Lets face it, the only dman we have that has good PP skills is Pronger.Carle and Coburn can skate ,neither can shoot. Timonen has some passing skills, but is not a goal scorer. Mez has a big shot, but it does not seem too accurate this year and he seems to be having a bad season so far. Its been talked about, but there is no way we should rely solely on Pronger to run the PP, he is old and when he is injured the PP totally collapses.If Lavvy had any confidence in our other dmens point shot ability, he would not have had JVR on the point and Richards on the point last year during PP's. Its obvious he is desperate for another good shot from the blueline. Think of all the puck wizards and net crashers we have up front for the PP ..Giroux,Read Jagr, Briere and Simmonds, Hartnell ,JVR using their size for rebounds. We have a great blend up front to really score some goals and battle in front, yet we have the most limp d1ck point shooters in the NHL aside from Pronger. If we had a another dman or two that can actually hit the net on the PP,it will make our team much more effective and we can win a few more games each season by scoring more PP goals, of course it wouldnt hurt if the dman was a top notch defender as well, since we are giving up too many goals. Its obvious we need a top young # 1 or #2 dman. Look at how when Pronger went out last year our team fell apart and when he was out this year the PP failed totally. Of course in order to obtain a top young dman we are going to have to give up something good. Our offense seems to be pretty strong even without our top prospect, Brayden Schenn playing much yet. So if we can get a top young dman for Schenn, maybe we think about, and put out some feelers, see if anything out there is worth a trade. Maybe Nashville will trade us Webber for Schenn and something else. Webber is a RFA next year and Nashville cant afford him. My other move is, when Gustaffson returns let him play the majority of games as the 6th man and see if he is the real deal or not. If he is, then we can use him to replace Carle who is an UFA. Coburn was re-signed Carle was not ,its obvious Carle is not in our future plans. So at the deadline you trade Carle for a first rounder or good prospect, rather than lose him at year end and get nothing. Gustaffson replaces Carle, and we see whats available in the trade market. In the offseason, we use some of Carles salary cap space to sign Ryan Suter who is an UFA. Either way we need some help on the blueline.

Bottom line... without Prongs we have no PP, the defense overall loses focus and Carles game drops of significantly. We need another high end # 1 or 2 dman with offensive skills and a good point shot. We cannot have a team rely on a 37 year old to be their sole PP QB and defensive leader on the blueline. no one on the blueline has an accurate point shot except Prongs. I think we have plenty of offense on the team and some good forwards in Adirondack, Harry Z, Wellwood, and we also have Schenn.So in the offseason, we need to try and land Suter or Webber,as FA's or swing a trade for a good young offensive dman.You never can have enough good defensemen. I think Schenn is a tremendus prospect, but with all the offensive guys we have, i dont see him getting much ice time when he returns. If we cant land a top FA dman, maybe we think about Voracek or Schenn for a good young dman, of course Schenn would get us more in return. We not only need a good young dmanfor now, but also forthe imminet decline of Timmo and Prongs
