  1. Game # 18 Bos 3 Fla 1 Ullmark, NHL-leading Bruins remain hot, top Panthers 3-1 to improve to 14-1-3 on season 1:47 Boston Bruins vs. Florida Panthers: Full Highlights ByAP Updated: Nov 22, 2023, 10:23 pm SUNRISE, Fla. -- — Linus Ullmark stopped 27 shots, and the NHL-leading Boston Bruins topped the Florida Panthers 3-1 on Wednesday night in a rematch of last season's Eastern Conference quarterfinals. John Beecher and Jake DeBrusk scored in a 3:05 span of the second period to put Boston in control, and Charlie Coyle also scored for the Bruins. Anton Lundell scored for Florida, and Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 22 shots. The Panthers saw their six-game winning streak on home ice snapped and lost for just the second time in their last nine games overall. “We were really good on the rush defense,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said of his team’s shutdown third-period performance. “We had a lot of numbers back, we were putting bodies on bodies and we had a little bit of time to make good breakout plays.” Boston improved to 14-1-3 on the season and 4-0-0 after losses. The Bruins have 31 of a possible 36 points so far — by far the best in the league, yet slightly behind their pace from last season when they had 32 points through 18 games. “We’ve only lost one game in regulation, so any time you’ve played this amount of games and have that, you’re doing something right,” DeBrusk said. “There are a lot of guys that are contributing in different ways and you need that to win. Our goaltending has been solid as well, and it bailed us out in a lot of games.” The 31 points after 18 games ties the fifth-most in NHL history. The only teams with more: the 2012-13 Chicago Blackhawks had 33 points, while the 1979-80 Philadelphia Flyers, the 1929-30 Bruins and last season’s Bruins each had 32 points. Boston finished with an NHL-record 135 points last season, yet still lost to Florida in seven games in the opening round of the playoffs. The Panthers went on to play in the Stanley Cup Final, but are 0-1-1 against the Bruins so far this season. “This is going to be a real good rivalry for five or six years,” Panthers coach Paul Maurice said before the game. “Boston's been a great team for a long time. We're trying to get to that level.” The Panthers suffered their first multi-goal loss since Nov. 4 and fell to 12-6-1, but remain in second place in the Atlantic Division. Ullmark improved to 7-1-1 on the season. ”He is a good, big goalie,” Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad said of Ullmark. “He likes to play the puck, so every time you rim it, he stops it and makes a play. Obviously, we found a way to get to him in the past and we’ll do it again someday.” The Panthers were again without captain Aleksander Barkov, who missed his second consecutive game with a knee injury. Barkov has been skating and Maurice said there is a chance — if the doctors approve — that the forward could play Friday against Winnipeg.

  3. Game # 18 Flames 2 Seattle 1 OT Rasmus Andersson's overtime goal lifts Flames to 4-3 win over Kraken 0:42 Rasmus Andersson sneaks one in for a Flames OT winner ByAP Updated: Nov 21, 2023, 01:31 am SEATTLE -- — After a terrible second period, the Calgary Flames could have easily shifted their focus toward the second stop on their lengthy road trip. Instead, the Flames controlled the third period and found an equalizing goal before finally picking up an overtime victory. Andrew Mangiapane scored the tying goal with 4:07 left in regulation, and Rasmus Andersson scored the winner 3:28 into overtime as the Flames rallied for a 4-3 win over the Seattle Kraken on Monday night. “Our second period wasn’t good enough today. Sloppy. They were all over us,” Andersson said. “But we were down one goal on the road in the third we were just sticking with it and found a away to bring it to overtime.” Mangiapane scored on a rebound past Seattle goalie Joey Daccord to pull the Flames even late. In overtime, Andersson had a clean chance saved by Daccord in the opening moments of the extra session. After Seattle was unable to get any of its chances past Dan Vladar in Calgary's net, Andersson cleaned up his own rebound on a wraparound attempt for the winner. Andersson’s goal was his third of the season. Elias Lindholm scored his fourth of the season 1:16 into the game and Jonathan Huberdeau scored on the power play midway through the first period. Mangiapane’s goal was the 100th of his career and Mikael Backlund picked up his 500th career point with an assist on Andersson’s winner. “I never maybe thought or expected myself to get to 500 points. ... Worked hard to get here today so I'm proud and excited by it,” Backlund said. Vladar made 28 saves for the Flames as Calgary won for the third time in four games with the only loss in that stretch coming in a shootout. The Flames also improved to 6-0-0 all-time against the Kraken in Seattle, including a 6-3 win earlier this month. Jordan Eberle and Jared McCann scored 2:04 apart in the second period to give Seattle a 3-2 lead. Vince Dunn added a goal and assist, but the Kraken have yet to win three straight games this season. Eberle scored for the second straight game and now has seven points in five games. His backhanded shot off a scrum in front of net slid past Vladar to tie the game at 2-2 at 8:21 of the second. Barely two minutes later, McCann scored his eighth goal off a slick redirection in front of goal of Adam Larsson’s heavy slapshot. The puck caromed over Vladar’s shoulder and spun into the net to give Seattle a 3-2 lead. It was Seattle's eighth overtime game, but the third time the Kraken have lost in OT when leading after two periods. “We got to find ways to win a little bit more,” Eberle said. “I don't know how many games we've had in overtime, seems like a lot, but we've got to find games to close out if we have leads and then find a way to come back and do it in OT.” Daccord entered at the start of the second period for starter Philipp Grubauer and made 22 saves for Seattle. Grubauer started the game and made five saves on seven shots in the period, but was on the bench when the second period started. Grubauer had a heavy collision with Calgary’s Martin Pospisil early in the first period. Pospisil scored on a breakaway after Grubauer made the initial save, but the goal was immediately waved off for goalie interference.
  4. Game # 17 Bos 4 Bolts 5 OT Hagel scores in OT as Lightning beat Eastern Conference-leading Bruins 5-4 1:10 Brandon Hagel takes down Bruins with OT winner ByAP Updated: Nov 20, 2023, 11:10 pm TAMPA, Fla. -- — Steven Stamkos scored the tying goal with 4.8 seconds left in regulation and Brandon Hagel got the winner on a breakaway 1:19 into overtime as the Tampa Bay Lightning beat the Eastern Conference-leading Boston Bruins 5-4 on Monday night. Tanner Jeannot, Nicholas Paul and Austin Watson scored for the Lightning (9-6-4). Jonas Johansson turned aside 22 shots. “We’re a good team, too,” Stamkos said. “We don’t have the same record because we’ve played a little reckless at times." Stamkos' goal came after Victor Hedman kept a clearing attempt in the Boston zone. Hedman also set up Hagel's goal. Stamkos tied Pat Verbeek for 38th place with 522 goals. Pavel Zacha, David Pastrnak, John Beecher and Charlie Coyle scored for Boston. Jeremy Swayman stopped 41 shots as the Bruins dropped to 13-1-3 on the season. “We hold ourselves at a pretty high level,” Coyle said. “Giving up points like that, it’s unacceptable in our dressing room. We’ve got to close these games out.” Tampa Bay star Nikita Kucherov skated gingerly off the ice midway through the second but returned for the third. “Kuch, I was surprised he came back,” Lightning coach Jon Cooper said. “As soon as we came in after the second period, he says ”Oh no, I’m coming back.' I think that gave the guys a huge boost." Pastrnak and Beecher scored 1:21 apart midway through the third before Watson pulled Tampa Bay even at 3-3 just 57 seconds after Beecher's goal. Coyle then put Boston up 4-3 with 3:51 remaining, It's just the fourth time Boston has allowed more than two goals in a game. “You’ve got to play to the end,” Coyle said. After failing to score during a minute-long 5-on-3 power-play earlier in the second. Paul put the Lightning up 2-1 on a deflection of Mikhail Sergachev's man-advantage shot with 30 seconds left in the period. Tampa Bay's top-ranked home power play went 1 for 6 against the Bruins' league-best penalty kill. Boston failed to score on its two power plays. Pastrnak extended his point streak to seven games with a nifty pass from the low slot to set up Zacha’s goal that tied it at 1 midway through an up-tempo first period that Tampa Bay held a 19-12 shot advantage. Brad Marchand also assisted on Zacha’s goal amd moved past Lightning broadcaster Phil Esposito into fourth place in franchise history with 431 road points. The left wing has a point in six consecutive games. Stamkos also had an assist and has at least 40 points against 14 different franchises. Stamkos is the fourth active player to record the total against as many franchise, joining Alex Ovechkin (14), Evgeni Malkin (16) and Sidney Crosby (15).

  7. Game # 17 Flames 4 NYI 5 SO Islanders halt losing skid with 5-4 shootout win over Flames 0:38 Oliver Wahlstrom scores shootout winner for Islanders Oliver Wahlstrom rips it behind the net for a shootout winning goal against the Flames. ByAP Updated: Nov 18, 2023, 11:47 pm CALGARY, Alberta -- — A 5-4 shootout win over the Calgary Flames on Saturday halted a seven-game losing streak for a New York Islanders team hungry for victory. Playing their third road game in four nights, the Isles didn’t blink when the Flames evened the score twice in the third period. Oliver Wahlstrom roofed the puck in the fourth round for the Islanders’ first shootout victory this season. “We’ve been through a lot, not just in this tough stretch, but over the years this group’s been challenged with a lot of different things,” Islanders captain Anders Lee said. “We’re comfortable in a challenging situation, facing adversity, dropping as many as we have. We’ve just got to fight through it. You’ve got to grind through it. It’s a tough league. Nothing’s given. That was no different tonight from our effort and the way we played. “Didn’t matter how, we needed those two (points).” Brock Nelson had a goal and an assist for the Islanders (6-6-5), who take four points home from a four-game road trip. Hudson Fasching, Matt Barzal and Kyle Palmieri also scored for New York, with starter Ilya Sorokin stopping 35 shots in regulation and overtime. Bo Horvat was New York’s other shootout scorer. Barzal shot wide and Palmieri was stopped by Calgary’s Jacob Markstrom. Martin Pospisil, Blake Coleman, MacKenzie Weegar and Yegor Sharangovich scored for the Flames (6-8-3). Markstrom made 29 saves. Sharangovich was the only successful Flame in the shootout. Jonathan Huberdeau, Rasmus Andersson and Connor Zary were denied. “Sharangovich has a skill set. He’s a shootout-type player,” Flames coach Ryan Huska said. “We don’t have a ton of guys that have his skill set. We have working skill, if you want to call it, so you have to find a way to capitalize before we get to the shootout.” Calgary dropped to 0-3 in shootouts this season. The Flames led the NHL last season in overtime and shootout losses with 17 — and missed the playoffs by two points. “We’ve got to find a way to win these shootouts and OT games because they’re going to be valuable points down the road,” Coleman said. “But you know, another deficit going into the third and really good response from our group and gave ourselves a chance to win down the stretch. The result isn’t what you want.” Outshooting the Islanders 21-17 and trailing 3-2 after two periods, Calgary drew even on Weegar’s goal at 3:12. Nelson restored the Islanders’ lead just 20 seconds later, but Sharangovich knotted the score again at 13:42. “I thought we were going to the net well,” Islanders coach Lane Lambert said. “I thought we were doing a lot of the same things we’ve been doing. Tonight, we capitalized.” The Flames twice negated man advantages with minor penalties within seconds of an opposing player entering the box. The Flames’ power play was 0-for-3 on Saturday and 0-for-16 in their last six games. The Islanders scored once on three power-play chances.
  8. Game # 16 Bos 5 Habs 2 Trent Frederic scores twice as the Bruins roll past the Canadiens 5-2 ByAP Updated: Nov 18, 2023, 10:39 pm BOSTON -- — Trent Frederic scored two goals, Brad Marchand collected his 500th career assist and the Boston Bruins cruised past longtime rivals the Montreal Canadiens 5-2 on Saturday night. Facing the Canadiens for the second time in eight days, Boston got some payback for a 3-2 overtime loss in Montreal last Saturday. Pavel Zacha, Charlie McAvoy and James van Riemsdyk also scored for the Bruins (13-1-2). Boston posted NHL records for wins (65) and points (135) last season. On a night when members of the 1970 and ’72 Stanley Cup-winning teams — led by Hall of Famers Bobby Orr and Johnny Bucyk — raised a banner to the rafters, the Bruins jumped out fast in the 759th regular-season meeting between the Original Six clubs. “When you bring a lot of people in town and there's a ceremony, you never know how the team is going to come out,” Marchand said. “I thought we had a great game. We kind of owed it to those guys. They're the ones that built the foundation that we try to uphold today. It's great that we were able to put a game like that in front of them.” Juraj Slafkovsky and Johnathan Kovacevic scored for the Canadiens, who lost a fourth straight. The Bruins are 11-0-1 in their last 12 games against Montreal. Jeremy Swayman, who took the OT loss last weekend, improved to 7-0-1 and made 20 saves. “I would love to be in their shoes doing the same thing one day,” Swayman said about the Cup winners. With Boston skating on a two-man, power-play advantage, McAvoy one-timed Marchand’s pass into the top left corner of the net from the right circle 7:11 into the opening period. Marchand picked up his milestone assist on the goal. “We were definitely more aggressive last week,” Canadiens coach Martin St. Louis said. “We definitely initiated a lot more things, a lot more control. We forced them last week to be uncomfortable. They forced us tonight to be uncomfortable. They brought some heaviness.” Frederic’s first goal came with 40 seconds left in the opening period when he redirected Brandon Carlo’s shot past goalie Jake Allen. Zacha’s wrister from the slot deflected off the stick of a Canadiens’ player in front and trickled past Allen’s right skate, making it 3-0 at 5:18 of the second period. Frederic’s second goal came on a wrister with 4:30 left in the second, giving Boston a 4-1 edge. After they went up 5-1 in the third, the TD Garden fans started chanting and mocking the Canadiens with “Ole! Ole!” — a chant used when they play well in Montreal. “I thought we played the right way for 60 minutes — the way we want to play,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. Bruins star David Pastrnak missed a good amount of the opening period but returned to the bench late in the period. The Bruins said Milan Lucic is taking an indefinite leave of absence from the team after he was involved in an undisclosed incident Friday night.
  9. CHL notebook: Blue Jackets prospect Dumais chasing 2nd straight QMJHL scoring title Forward rewriting Halifax record book while continuing to get stronger, round out game © Trevor MacMillan/Halifax Mooseheads ByAdam Kimelman @NHLAdamK NHL.com Deputy Managing Editor 12:00 AM Future NHL stars are developing in the Canadian Hockey League this season. Each week, NHL.com will highlight a few of the top NHL-affiliated prospects in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League and the Western Hockey League. Jordan Dumais led the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League in scoring last season. Now the Columbus Blue Jackets forward prospect is out to do it again. The 19-year-old has 29 points (12 goals, 17 assists) in 12 games. His average of 2.42 points per game puts him ahead of last season when he averaged 2.19 points in 64 games en route to a league-best 140 points (54 goals, 86 assists). Baie-Comeau forward Justin Gill, a New York Islanders prospect, leads the QMJHL with 38 points (13 goals, 25 assists), but has played eight more games "We have a great group here of guys and obviously it's good to play in Halifax," Dumais said. "I'm honored to be here and looking forward to even more games and a good season." That season didn't begin until Oct. 20 because of some injuries and a health issue that occurred during his time at Blue Jackets training camp. But he looked OK when he had a hat trick and two assists in his first game. He's stayed near that high pace since, with six games of at least three points and has scored at least a point in each of the 12. That included three assists in a 4-0 win against Cape Breton on Nov. 12, the first of which gave him 304 points with Halifax, passing Brandon Benedict to become the Mooseheads' all-time leading scorer. Dumais is up to 307 points (115 goals, 192 assists) in 184 games. He also is Halifax's all-time leader in assists, and he's four goals from tying Benedict's all-time Halifax mark of 119, set in 343 games. "The fans tell me stuff after games pretty much every game I've been here, so they've been keeping up with that," Dumais said of the points record chase. "It's great to be with those names at the top of the organization." The Blue Jackets are hoping Dumais pushes that mark higher. He played in two preseason games in Columbus and scored an overtime goal in a 4-3 win against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sept. 24. But after beginning the season with the Blue Jackets on the injured/non-roster list, he was returned to Halifax when he was healthy. The decision, though, was not an easy one. "The numbers he did have (last season) and the strong training camp he had, he made a case for himself and there's a lot of conversations around him," Blue Jackets player development coach Derek Dorsett said. "Unfortunately, the only option for him was to go back to Halifax; with the CHL agreement he can't play in the American Hockey League. He handled it right, he has the right attitude, obviously it's showing that he's went there with a good attitude and the right attitude to have success again in the Quebec league." Dumais said he didn't need a message from the Blue Jackets about why he was being sent down and understands what he needs to work on this season, including getting stronger and continuing to develop his 200-foot game. "At the end of the day, I think it's pretty self-explanatory and I think we're on the same mindset with those guys," he said. "No matter what they tell me, I'm just going to do my best and always work hard and be the best." That best could earn him a spot in the Columbus as soon as next season. Dorsett has been around Dumais since the Blue Jackets selected him in the third round (No. 96) of the 2022 NHL Draft. But after two NHL training camps, there are more fans than just those in the player development group. "I'm around the big club quite a bit and a lot of the guys that I either played with or played against, just being around the rink and talking with the some of the veteran guys, a lot of them have come up to me and said this kid can play, and it's obvious," Dorsett said. "We just want to make sure that he keeps progressing his 200-foot game. We know that he can put up points, we know that he can score, we know that he can make unbelievable passes and stuff like that. He's a very exciting prospect for us."

Game # 16 Flames 5 Nucks 2 Elias Lindholm's 3-point game helps Flames deal Canucks 2nd loss in 9 games ByAP Updated: Nov 17, 2023, 02:00 am CALGARY, Alberta -- — Elias Lindholm had a goal and two assists and Jonathan Huberdeau ended an 11-game scoring drought, leading the Calgary Flames to a 5-2 win over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night. Mackenzie Weegar, Dillon Dube and Noah Hanifin also scored for Calgary (6-8-2), which improved to 4-1-1 in its last six games. Huberdeau added an assist. Jacob Markstrom made 20 saves and improved to 4-6-1 on the season. Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander scored for Vancouver (12-4-1), which lost for just the second time in nine games. Casey DeSmith finished with 34 saves in his first loss of the season. Vancouver defenseman Filip Hronek had his 11-game point streak snapped. “I think we were tired. It caught up to us,” Canucks coach Rick Tocchet said. “The second half of the game, listen, they didn’t quit. I got no problem. But you’ve got to learn how to play tired. You’ve got to manage the puck a little more.” The Canucks were coming off a 4-3 overtime victory against the Islanders on Wednesday night. “It’s easy to say but keep it simple, I think,” Hoglander said. “We had a lot of turnovers today. We learn and do better next game.” After Vancouver opened the scoring midway through the first period, the Flames scored the next four goals. Calgary pulled even at 17:53 when Weegar took a drop pass from AJ Greer and ripped a 40-foot wrist shot over DeSmith’s blocker. The Flames took their first lead at 10:49 of the second when Rasmus Andersson’s slap shot squeaked through DeSmith’s pads and Dube reached behind him to knock it over the line. Calgary increased its lead to 3-1 with 36 seconds remaining in the period. In what proved to be the eventual winner, Hanifin carried the puck deep into the Canucks' end and scored with a shot inside the far post. But the biggest ovation – and celebration -- of the night came 5:53 into the third period when Huberdeau got a pass from Backlund and zipped a shot under the crossbar. Huberdeau, who is in the second season of an $84 million, eight-year deal, entered with just seven points in 15 games. Two seasons ago, he had a 115-point season with the Florida Panthers. “Obviously, it felt good. It’s been a while,” Huberdeau said. “It was good to finally get a goal and a big win for us.” Dube said it was nice to see Huberdeau get rewarded for the work he puts in. “His attitude coming to the rink, every day he’s positive and tries to get better,” Dube said. After Hoglander’s goal at 10:06 cut Calgary’s lead to 4-2, Huberdeau assisted on Lindholm’s empty netter at 18:08. Lindholm had also been struggling, having gone pointless in nine of his last 10 games. Off to its fastest start in franchise history, Vancouver opened the scoring at 9:36 on a power play. Pettersson’s one-timer from the faceoff dot completed a slick passing sequence with Quinn Hughes and JT Miller.

  17. Game # 15 Bos 5 Buff 2 Pastrnak, with a goal and 2 assists, leads Boston Bruins to 5-2 win over Buffalo Sabres ByAP Updated: Nov 14, 2023, 11:06 pm BUFFALO, N.Y. -- — David Pastrnak had a goal and two assists to lead the Boston Bruins to a 5-2 victory against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. Danton Heinen, Brandon Carlo, Oskar Steen, and Hampus Lindholm all scored their first goals of the season and Linus Ullmark made 32 saves for the Bruins, who are 3-0-1 in their last four games. Pastrnak’s 11th goal of the season was the second of five straight goals scored by Boston. “(Pastrnak) allows you to have a lot of success as a team because he’s a difference maker, right,” Bruins coach Jim Montgomery said. “He makes people around him better. As good a goal scorer he is, he’s as equal a passer, and the way he competes as a leader on our team and our most skilled player, it shows everybody that you have to work to have success.” Victor Olofsson scored two goals for Buffalo. Devon Levi made 13 saves on 18 shots before he was replaced by Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen in the second period. Luukkonen made 14 saves for Buffalo who are 1-2-1 in their last four. Heinen gave Boston a 1-0 lead when he put a rebound of Charlie McAvoy’s shot past Levi at 3:01 of the first period. Pastrnak made it 2-0 with a one-timer 1:08 later. Carlo made it 3-0 at 15:14 of the first when he scored on a 3-on-1 from a pass by Pastrnak. “I think the first period kind of set the game up,” Pastrnak said. “Obviously, it wasn’t a great game for us overall, there was mistakes but most importantly, we got the goals and we got the saves and we got the dub.” Steen gave Boston a 4-0 lead at 4:07 of the second period and Lindholm made it 5-0 with a power-play goal at 12:23. Olofsson cut the Bruins lead to 5-1 with his first goal of the season at 15:07 of the second period when he put the rebound of Owen Power’s shot off the end boards past Ullmark. His second at 15:02 of the third made it 5-2. “I feel like I just kind of attacked a little bit more,” Olofsson said. “I kind of searched those pucks around the net. I’m kind of not just looking for open ice. I tried to just go to the net and had a lucky bounce there, the first one. And then the second one, JJ (Peterka) found me with a great pass.” Sabres center Tage Thompson sustained an upper-body injury after he blocked a shot by McAvoy in the second period off his arm and did not return. Thompson was cut by a skate blade in a separate collision with McAvoy in the first period and left the game momentarily but returned for the second period. OKPOSO HITS MILESTONE Sabres captain Kyle Okposo played in his 1,000th NHL game on Tuesday. At 35 years old, Okposo is the 381st skater and 384th player in NHL history to play a thousand games in the league. Okposo made his NHL debut March 18, 2008.
  18. Games # 15 Flames 2 Habs 1 Markstrom sharp in net to lead Calgary Flames past Montreal Canadiens 2-1 1:35 Calgary Flames vs. Montreal Canadiens: Full Highlights Calgary Flames vs. Montreal Canadiens: Full Highlights ByAP Updated: Nov 15, 2023, 12:08 am MONTREAL -- — Nazem Kadri and Connor Zary scored goals, Jacob Markstrom made 34 saves and the Calgary Flames defeated the Montreal Canadiens 2-1 on Tuesday night. Markstrom earned his third win of the season in his first start in a week due to an upper-body injury. “Our goalie was our best player tonight,” said Flames head coach Ryan Huska. “I thought Marky had a real great night, especially late in the game when they were coming on, he made some really big saves for us.” His best stop was with 1:11 left in the game when he robbed Josh Anderson with a glove save in front of the net to keep Calgary ahead. “Marky was excellent tonight. Unbelievable,” Zary said. “I saw that stop at the end, and that’s what wins you games right there.” Anderson couldn’t believe his luck. “You’re not wrong there,” said Anderson, asked if he had to pinch himself. “I’m definitely getting the looks. Certainly have to change something, maybe a new stick, I don’t know. “I’m still in disbelief.” Gustav Lindstrom scored the lone goal for Montreal, which lost its second in a row. Samuel Montembeault made 27 saves. Up 2-1, Calgary's Andrew Mangiapane appeared to score the 100th goal of his career four minutes into the third period but the play was ruled offside after a Montreal challenge. Montreal had multiple shots with the goalie pulled as time wound down, but couldn’t find the equalizer. Kadri opened the scoring at 2:35 of the second period with a spinning wrist shot past Montembeault after a deke around Christian Dvorak to enter the offensive zone. The lead was short-lived as Lindstrom replied 17 seconds later with his first for the Canadiens off a one-timer that hit Flames defenseman Rasmus Andersson on its way into the net. Zary scored a tap-in off a feed from Andersson and regained the lead for Calgary at 13:07 of the period. Cole Caufield had a chance to tie the game with a one-timer from the slot, but Markstrom shut the door. Some of Markstrom’s best work was in the first. Montreal put the pressure on with nine shots in the first eight minutes, including one from the slot by Caufield that Markstrom turned away with his mask. With under two minutes left in the period, Markstrom stretched out to make a left pad save on Caufield. The Canadiens held a pre-game ceremony for Pierre Turgeon, the newest member of their Ring of Honour. Turgeon was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame on Monday after a 19-season career where he totalled 1,327 points in 1,294 games. Turgeon also played for Buffalo, the New York Islanders, St. Louis, Dallas and Colorado. Although Montreal was a short stop, he said playing for the team he watched growing up was special.
