My hope with the current management is that they are looking long term to build a winner the proper way.  It’s way to early to judge if they will be successful but similar to Hexy their hearts are in the right place and we are going to have to wait and see about how their long term plan unfolds.

I hope so too.  Having two very late 1st round picks sure isn't going to help though.

All the draft picks in the next few drafts assure only one thing. Mediocre. It gets harder every year to find the diamond in the rough. This season of culture building assures more mediocre. Chicago, Anaheim, Montreal will all win a playoff series before the Flyers. Do I respect what the players accomplished this year under Torts, yes of course, but it gets them no closer to the prize. If Briere can somehow package some assets and move up in the draft I would be delighted, but I would be more delighted if he strips the team down to the bare bones. This season is really just more of the same old same old.

👏   Spot on!   Same old same old.

Flyer fans last year: I'm so sick and tired of the ol' boys club hiring their pals, trading draft picks for washed up bums, signing older players for too long for too much and settling for mediocrity.

Flyer fans this year, after the same ol' boys club who'd hired the past ol' boys clubs hires ex-Flyer Briere, who just overpaid an over 30 defenceman for too long and traded a draft pick for a 35 year old while getting his team to almost exactly the middle of the pack in the NHL...

    Exactly!

The more things change, the more they stay the same!

If you believe "NHL Morning Skate" on SiriusXM, Loughlin says Laughton (say that five times in a row) is in play.  I guess stranger things have happened.   They also said that if we eat an additional 50% (25% of the 8 million), somebody might take Johansen as 3C depth.  Let's see.

I'm in on both deals.  That would be terrific.

However, as I said before, I haven't seen Briere move anyone that Torts likes yet.  And Laughton could've been moved over the past summer after being offered a 1st rounder.  That never happened & it's doubtful it will now.  I would love to be wrong.

I think Danny B comes away today with another pick, a backup goalie, another d man (Chychrun) and MAYBE a little good scoring depth. If they can do that today, I'll be happy. I think Laughton gets traded to the Leafs, for a 1st.

Would love to see that happen.  But Torts loves him & so it's extremely doubtful.

No, @SCFlyguyis like the rest of us who are tired of the same old dog and pony show the Flyers trot out every year and then try to sell it as 'see we're committed' and the only thing they commit to is mediocrity. They won't do a real rebuild. They refuse to take the lumps and try to cheat the rebuild process. And to make matters worse, they keep going on about culture and identity as being the core to a Flyers rebuild. It's insanity over and over and over. They continually make the same mistakes, but expect it will be different. Even Jones admitted that the rebuild statement was for the fans, but in the locker room, he said the rebuild was BS. Enough said.

Unfortunately, this is all true.  Same old same old.

Of course they are. And they probably will. But that's not what I'm saying. What I AM saying is, the Flyers franchise making a social justice decision on a political matter, i.e. Kate Smith, is not the same as the personnel team making a decision on a player based on alleged criminal conduct.

why is this so hard? :IDunnoSmiley:

Social Justice?   No such thing.  There's justice & injustice.

If they are able to keep Hart on this team & also trash Kate Smith they are morally confused.

  8. 8 minutes ago, CoachX said:

The Kate Smith issue has everything to do with "franchise" management, not the team itself. The Flyers decided to acquiesce to the the public under societal pressure, which I think was ridiculous. In the case of Hart they granted him leave due to him being the subject of investigation. Societal pressure has nothing to do with it. If he gets cleared, is under contract, and can win them hockey games, he will be back between the pipes. They won't care about society (see Billy Tibbetts)

You're not being honest if you feel as though "franchise" management isn't able to pressure the team in a situation like gang rape & sexual assault.   However it appears Kate Smith was a bigger issue.

the Kate Smith issue has nothing to do with players. For clarity, I think that issue is BS

The Kate Smith issue has everything to do with team management.  And team management in the end determines who's on the team.

As pointed out by another poster, the Flyers have a couple of examples of players who were MORE than accused of the same type of thing, and they still got a chance to play for them. I personally think they enough about the situation that it prompted them to find, and prepare Errson to take Harts position. You can't blame them. They have no idea what the outcome will be. It seems pretty obvious though, if they had information indicating Hart was "innocent", their approach would be different. Based on his contract status, I agree he will not play in Philly again. But if he is cleared, another NHL team will take a chance on him. Wins matter more than real life ethics

So it seems gang rape & sexual assault is more acceptable than Kate Smith.  If so, the team ownership has a severe moral problem!

Regardless of outcome, I hope the Flyers just move on. They have a team to build. The guy isn’t there. Next man up. If he gets cleared, and I have a feeling based on all that I’ve read that he won’t, they can try to move him for whatever he’s worth at the time

He's worth nothing at this point.

Nobody was going to take Hart off the Flyers hands, because everybody knew that this was a distinct possibility. Briere might have tried to deal him, but I can't think there was a large list of takers, given the possible trouble that was looming.

Exactly JR.  Hart has really screwed the team with his actions in this case.

@Fuzz just like I asked SCFlyguy, when was the time to deal Carter?

He was extended after the playoff run, then he was terrible after COVID, I imagine this situation played into those struggles.

He was only starting to play well again this season. He was pretty up and down and far from a lock to be 'the man".

Today his value is nil, but truly when was he going to bring back a prospect and high draft pick?

I don't know that I can gnash my teeth over a missed opportunity that was never really "there".

    To all:

The disappointment I feel having learned that one of our perceived "good guys" either assaulted or didn't stop an assault (which would be harder for a boy) is pretty profound.

I think the time to trade him was at the trade deadline or right after the end of the season.  However, as you said, his trade value now is nil.  He has really set back the Flyers rebuild.

And just like that the Flyers loose their franchise goalie. Poof, Gone!

And just like that the Flyers lose a player that they could've gotten draft picks & prospects for.  This will certainly set back their rebuild quote a lot.
