We need all the stars in the galaxy perfectly aligned to win games. No chance here, though the effort was good in the first and third. I felt that it would have been nice to give Mayhew a shot at PP, but it turned out he didn't need that chance. He doesn't look like much to me, but he seems to be there when there's a scoring chance. Hopefully he keeps proving me wrong 👍

Mayhew barely played 10 mins last night on the 4th line. This is the least of any wild player and his linemates were mailing it in. At least give him an opportunity to play with a better line and more minutes.

It was 10 times, not 10 people, but I digress.

If the Wild would've scouted or atleast watched 80+ of Rasks games, like they did with Staal prior to his signing, the outcome definitely would've been different. Or it wouldn't. Hard to say really after all the reports about Fenton and his personality after his firing.

The MN wild had a very high quality analytics and statistics department until Fenton "tried to plug his leaks." I'm sure they could have queued up the video and data for him. Unfortunately it wouldn't have mattered as Fenton didn't care about analytics as much as his "gut feeling for a hockey trade" so they would have gone underutilized. Now the wild, under new soon to be announced leadership, could certainly use those talented individuals back...

Thanks LIG. Another player who came into my mind was Guillaume Latendresse. I think he was a pretty talented player. The first season he played for the Wild team was very promising and extremely impressing by his scoring ability and his nice size always creating some tension around the net, but continuous injuries practically destroyed his talent and character as well. Wikipedia wrote about his career  an interesting  article including his especially initial impressing stats for Drummondville Voltigeurs team. He was noticeable as a player for the Montreal Canadiens too.
Here is a link to read about him:

If I remember right Latendresse got wrecked by a heaping bowl of poutine...

Everyone’s wetting their pants over Zuccarello, but last I saw according to CapFriendly he was going to clock in at around $6+M/5 years and a NMC.

Which also means Fenton has to protect him in the Seattle Expansion Draft.

The wild should let a different team over pay for another old free agent. They should continue their rebuild from within and prep for the expansion draft and find the pieces to build around kaprizov. They should get younger and faster and stick to that plan. Let koivu move on as soon as possible. If the next season goes well leave the roster be. If it turns

south trade stall and Parise and hopefully suter will want to waive his nmc to go as well. Then look at trading dubnyk, brodin, spurgeon, and Zucker. Get lots of picks and prospects and do a complete rebuild around players that are hungry to play and not looking to repeat the status quo.

Of those forwards I profiled, only Peyton Krebs didn't have much in the way of doubts about his game or his potential.  The rest all had some major concerns or questionable parts of their game.  I would hope that Fenton isn't obsessed with having a Mikko Koivu clone.

Krebs just got his Achilles cut and has to have surgery and has no time line yet on the recovery poor guy.

I suspect he will settle for a prospect and flip of first round picks for Zucker. That moves us up to No. 10 maybe a pick with more upside ready to make an impact sooner....

Trading Zucker to move up two spots in the draft is beyond stupid so that pretty much sounds like a move the GM would make.

  7. “He is well known, he’s well recognized. He’s still one of ‘our guys.’ He still has it. Whatever the ‘it’ is in this market, he has it. He’s going to be great for us.” ~ Wild Owner Craig Leipold on the hiring of Mike Modano.

This quote is a dead giveaway that the owner is an absolute dolt. "Whatever the it is in this market" CL doesn't even know his team's market, how to spot talent, much less how close the wild were to winning a cup. Then he changed plans abruptly and started underselling the wild players in desperate trades for nobodies. CL has no business owning a hockey team at all.

Fenton is an arrogant dip$hit.  I have already had enough of his pathetic trades and single first round pick.  This guy was the definitive botched hire.  Just because he came from a solid Preds front office, doesn't mean he was a capable executive.  CL must have really screwed the pooch on this interview, and demonstrated his past bias and affiliation with Preds organization in lieu of any objectivity and discernment with a very important hire.  I actually would RATHER have Fletcher at this point.

Unfortunately CL wanted a yes man who was in agreement that the wild were just a few minor adjustments away from winning the cup. Fenton told CL exactly what he wanted to hear which was that CL was the smartest person in the room (moronically) and that his playoff beard was coming in nicely (looks more like a goats nutsack). Fenton is consistently getting fleeced trade by trade by more qualified GM's and judging from last year's first round pick CL shouldn't trust Fenton to pick his own nose.

  9. The new GM is an absolute asshat.   https://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/31-thoughts-navigating-phil-kessel-trade-wont-easy-penguins/

    1. Here’s my sense of what’s going on with Phil Kessel: he vetoed a trade to Minnesota and the story is out because both teams are unhappy. He cannot be traded to the Wild without specific approval, and, if you know Kessel, you know he will stand up for his rights no matter what anyone else thinks. The fact it got out may make it even harder to complete, because he’ll push back against pressure.

I’d heard things went badly last season between him and the organization, and this confirms it. He knows he will be traded because there’s no benefit to staying, but he’s going to make sure it is on his terms if the Penguins want to send him anywhere other than his eight-team list. My guess is Arizona would be high on his choice of destinations, but I don’t see an easy fit. The Penguins want scoring in return and the Coyotes finished 28th in goals-for. Memorial Day weekend comes at a perfect time for everyone to take a deep breath, drink some strawberry daiquiris, then search for a solution.

    2. You know who else can’t be thrilled? Jason Zucker. That’s twice (Calgary at the deadline) he’s been sent somewhere, only to have it aborted. Someone is going to get a very motivated player. He must want to strangle someone

Like I said, if Leipold made a congratulatory "gift" to CSKA Moscow, they may be persuaded to release him from his deal. But yeah, I think the earliest we see Kaprisov is the 2020-2021 season...

Leipold better not be cheap and should make a sizable gift as soon as possible! These guys could help make up for the severe lack of scoring, talent, and depth currently on the wild and may help save the team's non-rebuild rebuild.

Are they ever going to sign Kirill Kaprizov?

His season is over he could always join them.

Kaprizov just won the cup there now is the time to bring him and his teammate to the state of hockey. The GM better not sit on his hands for too long or those guys will become strangers.

am impressed so far about the progress of our prospect Connor Dewar stats who is playing for Everett Silvertips team for 4 seasons.
Last season he put 38 goals and made 30 assists in 68 games (+/- + 23). In 22 playoff games last year he had 12 goals;14 assists;+/- +24 as well as he also was an alternate captain.
This season he is a captain and put 34 goals and made 39 assists;+/- +22 (73 points) in 52 games already. Wish that the Wild organization will sign him as soon as possible. He still is having unsigned status for us.

The wild are sure in need of players that can put the puck in the net. The wild should have scouted more thoroughly and managed their prospects completely differently. I can only hope that the current management can learn from the previous management's mistakes.
