Just my opinion, but Stevie Y built a solid team in tampa and in 3-5 seasons, the wings will be a playoff team....

Like Yave said...getting rid of dead weight and bad contracts, gonna reshape the wings.

5-6 seasons and we'll be competitive again...doubtful about being playoff bound though.

I'm going to guess Chayka looked at the analytics and figured out he needed to get out there while he still could.   I still think this team is going to move to Houston at some point.  It was certainly strange timing on his part, but I think its in his nature to defy tradition, convention, etc.

The Coyotes have improved, but they're still a long way off from being a contender.

    Houston or Kansas City

I'd say Gallant too.  I think he'd have that team playing a similar up tempo style that would make them immediately endearing to their developing fanbase.  Plus, he'd be used to the challenge.  Although I could see Detroit giving Gallant the head coaching gig there.  But IMO, I'd lock down a coach so he can help be another set of eyes as they consider how they want to build this team.

Gallant to the Wings would be a killer move!

IMO, I wouldn't want him around college kids if he treated pros the way he did in Toronto and elsewhere.  Vermont is not exactly a top tier program, but I'd find it hard to believe he'll turn things around there.  It might help them recruit a little bit better, but they'll always be second or third fiddle compared to Boston College, Boston University and Providence in Hockey East.

    Totally agree.

He will be back, one hell of a coach whose stock is pretty low right now but he deserves another shot.

I agree. However, he's got to learn to respect players and appropriately treat them with respect otherwise he ain't getting another shot .

  6. “Are goalies overvalued in today's game?”

This is a great question in today’s cap-era. I believe they are critical and highly valued in today’s modern fast pace game. However, I do think you have to remember that it’s just a few teams that overpaid their goaltenders. This clearly isn’t the norm throughout the league – these are outliers. I believe due to the stats alone of these goalies means organizations will learn and there won’t be a trend to shell out $8+ million to starting goalies.

I agree with the question of how much a starting goalie is worth and what’s his value? Well I think that clearly depends on the goalie and team. What are the team’s deficiencies?

I think as the league and organizations begin to really switch over to analytics modeling their going to be able to eventually addressed the question of what a goalie’s worth is.
