  1. Conspiracy talk fits a loser franchise. "We would have won the lottery, but it's fixed". "We would have won but the refs were against us." "We would have won a Cup, but our goaltending." Chicago played the game the Flyers and their fans wouldn't. We'll see what they have won in a couple years. I'm betting they're better than the Flyers inside of two years. Everyone will point to the lottery, but as I posted a couple weeks ago, they have tons of assets coming and their cap situation will be all fixed by the time they arrive. They are swollowing their medicine, while the Flyers, like a freaking baby, are trying to spit theirs out.
  2. No they can’t. Even with Ellis on LTIR they are still jammed to the cap. So he is irrelevant. Let him stay, keep the picks.
  3. The Flyers are bad now. With their financial resources, what they should be doing is assuming bad contracts from contenders in return for accruing more picks. They would be able to do this if they didn't constantly have 2-5 insane contracts that put them right at the cap.
  4. If the Flyers do this, Briere is an unserious GM and all his talk about rebuild is just window dressing for Flyers business as usual.
  5. I understand getting rid of Ellis has a slight impact on the cap accrual, freeing them up to take on more salary at the deadline. I'm saying that isn't something the Flyers need at this juncture; they shouldn't be looking to add salary at the deadline any time soon. So his salary, imo, isn't a detriment, and not worth burning the picks it's going to take to get rid of him.
  6. Why would we trade Ellis? He's not really hurting us and we aren't competing for anything (other than another top 5 pick).
  7. I just listened to the entire thing. Specifically, regarding the senior advisors, he says, "I don't know, it's been 48 hours." That's your smoking gun? The fact that he even had to bend the knee and speak to these drooling idiots says a lot more about the pecking order than Danny's mealy-mouthed sports speak. But if you want to actually dig in to what he says, instead of speculate, here is what he says about the front office: Re: is it a rebuild: "yes, but that doesn't mean it's a fire sale.: Re: changes to the front office: "It's not about rocking the boat." Re: Brent Flahr: "that is my expectation [that he is sticking around]" So you'll have to forgive me if I don't see Danny's shrug as some huge sea change in the organization.
  8. Org doesn't need an enema. It doesn't need a minor operation. It needs a nuke dropped on it.
  9. There is zero evidence to support this beyond one meaningless sentence by Danny Boy, yet you're going to latch on to this sentence like a life preserver on the titanic, because you want it to be true. The fact that Danny Boy is an ex-Flyer and immediately the org is looking at ex-Flyers as President should weigh more in your analysis if you are being straight and not swayed by your emotions.
  10. I would have loved to have you for a teacher in high school . Fail every test for four years, get a D on your final one question pop quiz, graduate with honors.
  11. Isn’t JVR an UFA? Even I don’t think the Flyers are dumb enough to resign him. I don’t think Hayes and TDA are going anywhere unless DB is dumb enough to send picks to do it.
  12. @OccamsRazorI think you want the Flyers to be good so badly, you see every new move as the one that is going to save them from themselves and short circuit the pain of a rebuild. My view is they still haven't started to rebuild. Trading picks to get rid of Hayes is not a rebuilding move. It's a quick fix. Trading Provorov for a good return of picks/prospects is a rebuilding move.
  13. Trading your veterans for prospects/picks before they hit UFA is not a smart move. That's basic competence. Congratulations, Flyers you didn't eat paste that one time. A smart move would have been trading Giroux at the deadline in 2021 or even earlier as a way to jump start a rebuild.
  14. Of course I'm pulling for them to turn around. Lol. But sorry if I don't look at every move as a 50-50 proposition, we just have to wait and see, as if the last 20 years haven't happened. Are the senior advisors gone? Did they get rid of all the scouts? Hell, I want the beer vendors gone. I'm not saying they have to win a Cup to win me over, but they have to at least make smart moves. I can't think of a smart move they've made in 4 years.
  15. If the airline keeps crashing planes left and right, you going to get on the next one? I guess you probably would.
  16. I told you my man, I don't have a crystal ball. I just assume the smart move is the opposite of what the Flyers do. Funny that approach seems to work pretty often.
  17. Anaheim: 2024 Roster/Cap Space: 16/$38.1M 5-Year Window Rank: 24 Prospect Rankings: 3 Draft Picks First 3 Rounds: 2023: 1/3/2 2024: 1/2/3 2025: 1/1/1 Philadelphia: 2024 Roster/Cap Space: 16/$8.0M 5-Year Window Rank: 30 Prospect Rankings: 24 Draft Picks First 3 Rounds: 2023: 1/0/2 2024: 2/0/1 2025: 1/1/1 Baring the Flyers getting Bedard, I would put my money on Anaheim (3rd ranked prospect pool, oodles of cap space) over Philadelphia (24th ranked prospect pool, no cap space).
  18. Spending the kind of assets required to move up in this draft would be moronic.
  19. That was kind of my conclusion. They are in a venn diagram of currently bad roster and cap situation, few veteran players anyone would want, poor prospect pool, and few future assets. When you add all that up, it's hard for me to see how a rebuild is going to do anything for 5+ years. My ways to try to fix this: trade Konecny, trade Provorov, and maybe trade Hart. You could go from having an effed up team with no assets, to an effed up team with a huge stockpile of assets and eventually cap space when Hayes, Risto, etc. contracts are over. One thing for sure: the Flyers should not, under any circumstances, include a draft pick to get rid of any player on their roster. They just don't have the assets to spare. I think Pittsburgh is in a terrible position. Their cornerstones still have years on their contracts and are only getting worse from here on out. They have a worse prospect pool than the Flyers. They do have three cups to show for it though. I would take that. Vancouver might be in a worse position than the Flyers. They somehow have fewer high picks than the Flyers and a worse prospect pool. Not familiar enough with their roster to know how quickly they might be better. They might be able to replenish things by trading JT Miller and others.
  20. Ah dammit, can a mod replace that semi-colon with a comma? TIA.
  21. I took a look at the teams above and below the Flyers in the 2023 draft, which devolved into trying to assess the futures of the Flyers and other teams that might be similarly situated. Explanations below: 2024 Roster/Cap Space: From Cap Friendly, roster size and cap space for next year. 5-Year Window Rank: From https://www.yardbarker.com/nhl/articles/ranking_the_five_year_windows_for_all_32_nhl_teams/s1__37836839#slide_1, an assessment of how successful the team will be in the next 5 years, which I guess is a measure of current roster and prospect pool that is close to ready. These rankings are from before the trade deadline, so are dated. For instance, they don't take into account the Blues trading some of their vets for prospects. I would also disagree with some of these rankings - Pittsburgh and Washington are too high imo - but it is presented as an independent measure of where a team stands in the next couple of years. Prospect Rankings: From https://thehockeywriters.com/nhl-farm-system-rankings/. Just what it says, even if slightly dated (from mid-2022-2023). Imo, this ranking combined with the number of Draft Picks discussed below, show the possible path to a team outperforming their 5-Year Window Rank. In other words, yes, Chicago is going to be terrible for the next 1-4 years, but you could make a case that if they hit on some of their picks (and they have so, so many), they could be ready to turn things around starting in years 4-5 and beyond. 22. Neither does your magical hope that Briere learned something since the time he was a selfish player.
  23. I think the Sanheim contract was incredibly dumb, but I think all contracts longer than five years are incredibly dumb, bar a few foundational players. It won’t be DeAngelo dumb until they have to include a 2nd, 3rd, and 7th to trade Sanheim away or if Sanheim punches out Hart tomorrow.
