ESPN chose only 6 NHL players for the 20th century, since hockey is the # 4 sport in the U.S. behind Baseball, Football, and Basketball, so I'm guessing they will choose 6 NHL players at the end of this century as well. In my opinion the are only 4 NHL players who make the list right now, the other 2 will have to come from the late 21st century. So these are the four NHL players so far, that I think will make ESPN's 100 Greatest Athlete's of the 21st Century: # 1 - Alex Ovechkin # 2 - Sidney Crosby # 3 - Patrick Kane # 4 - Steven Stamkos And just like the 20th century list, no goaltenders will make the 21st century list, and no sidekicks will make it either - only the best of the best. They will choose Alex Ovechkin, but not Nicklas Backstrom as well. They will choose Sidney Crosby, but not Evgeni Malkin as well. They will choose Patrick Kane, but not Johnathan Toews as well. A lot of hockey experts say that Bobby Orr is the greatest player ever because of his skills, not Wayne Gretzky, but Gretzky is called the greatest because he scored the most goals, assists, and points. I think Sidney Crosby might get chosen over Alex Ovechkin as the greatest of the 21st Century. Sidney Crosby is on his way to reaching his 1000th assist, while Alex Ovechkin might retire with under 1000 assists. Plus Crosby won more Cups. But I'm hoping Alex Ovechkin is chosen number one. Marc-Andre Fleury needs to play 2 more seasons for 20, and 1 or 2 seasons for game 1000, depending on how many games he plays next season. The only reason I would want Minnesota Wild to win the Stanley Cup is so Fleury can get Cup number 4. I think the Minnesota Wild have the ugliest uniform in the NHL. Marc-Andre Fleury will be inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame.
