  1. With a ton of RfaS AND a bunch of UFAs that they would like to keep and no cap space, the Bruins have donated Taylor Hall and Nick Foligno to the Hawks for a couple of B or C defensive prospects in Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula. It gives the Bruins the much needed cap space to sign Swayman and Debrusk and they still have a chance to sign UFAs Hathaway and Orlov. Chicago gets a former number one pick in Hall to play on a top line with Connor Bedard. He is not the player he once was but can still score a bit and the hope is that he and Foligno bring experience to a young team. Nothing out yet if picks/ money are involved i tge deal
  2. Sean Durzi was dealt to Arizona a couple of days ago for a 2024 2nd rounder. The Coyotes as buyers seems strange but Durzi is cheap at a bit under two million and the totes retain his rights for two years. He is a puck mover with a nice shot and fits the Arizona/Houston/Atlanta/Hamilton model. He looks like a 40-50 point a year ppqb. In LA, coach Scott Stevens hated his game. He is smallish and the kings want players who are aggressive and physical on the back end. Twice he was sat down for his less than physical game, getting away from Stevens might allow him to flourish. It also means that former first rounder Brandt Clarke is a lock to make the team. 3 inches taller than Durzi, he skates like the wind and is pure offense on the back end. Read this carefully, in only 31 games for Barrie in the OHL last year, Clarke scored 65 points or over two per game. Then in the playoffs in only 12 games he amassed a staggering 23 more. I like it for the yotes, young cheap puck mover albeit a bit small do not grow on trees a solid get. Love it for the kings, a second rounder and clearing space for Clarke is a great idea.in fact, if healthy I have Clarke in my top five preseason Calder candidates. It also frees a bit of cap space as they are zeroing in on Pierre luc Dubois. With Clarke stealing his ice time Durzi was bound to see a decrease in ice time and production so dealing him now for a second shows foresight. Solid move for both.
  3. My two cents Lundqvist is a rock solid absolute no brainer first ballot hall of famer Zetterberg barely missed last year. He slides in with his countryman the King Alexander Mogilny finally gets the call after being criminally overlooked for so many years. Boris Mikhailov gets in, truthfully he should have went in way ahead of countryman Yakyuchev who inexplicably made it four or five years ago. Some woman i have never heard of and wont remember five minutes after the election. Builder category i am going out on a limb and choosing Ken Hitchcock. Dark horses would have to be JR and Tkachuk who both appear to have the numbers but never the votes. A lot of people like CuJo but i see him as a long lasting goalie who had good but not great numbers.
  4. When most teams reach the point where the Jets are, first round fodder in a good year, barely missing the postseason in a bad, most teams continue to attempt to retool and rebuild on the fly to stay relevant. It appears the Jets are going another route. Pierre Luc Dubois will not come back, he has told the team that he will not resign. Rumors have him going everywhere in all likelihood before the draft as the Jets want draft capital in this very deep draft. Connor Hellebuyck wants out as well and may be gone on or around the draft. The Kings have kicked tires, so has Edmonton but money is a bad fit for both. It remains to be seen where he winds up. And the one that most intrigues me as a Wings fan is Mark Scheifele who grew up idolizing Steve Yzerman and has made no bones of his desire to play for the Wings. Well. Scheifele has two years remaining on his current deal at a very reasonable 6.1 million per season. I have heard that Yzerman wants to have a four year extension in place before swinging the deal, likely somewhere in the neighborhood of 8 million per year. The Wings can easily afford him, they have over 30 million in available cap space with none of their own free agents coming back, they can make a splash, or even two, possibly more depending on where Yzerman sees the team in what is the games deepest division. Yzerman played under Bowman who built the best four man depth chart at center that we have ever seen or are likely to ever see, Yzerman, Federov, Larionov and Draper, three hall of famers and arguably the greatest fourth line center in the game. If the Wings add Scheifele it would make them one of the games deepest down the middle with Larkin Scheifele Copp Rookie Marco Kasper Simply wow. So what would the cost be? The Wings have two first rounders, their own at 9 and the Islanders at 17, one of those would certainly be a part of it. Lucas Raymond has been whispered, after coming in second in Calder voting two years ago, he had a sophomore slump season but still has massive upsde. Truthfully the Jets losing their top two centers would more than likely ask for Marco Kasper instead as a young, cheap cornerstone to begin the rebuild around. So Kasper and the 17th pick? Maybe. Raymond and the 17th? Again maybe. The Jets certainly have no interest in simply giving away such a player. Berggren and the ninth? RRR, very possible as well. So the Wings have assets to deal, Berggren and Wallinder and a second might get it done, dealing from depth to acquire a star talent would be huge. Debrincat supposedly wants to come to Detroit as well but the Senators are less likely to deal him to a division rival and while he is a sniper who looked disinterested and as if he were sleepwalking in Ottawa last year who does not want to return. Ottawa gave up an absolute ton to get him only a year ago so the asking price is going to be insanely high, i think he would be plan B because of that.
  5. One other knock. Kessel played the first four games of the playoffs and then, William Carrier returned and Kessel hit the bench and did not appear in another game. Yes his regular season streak is intact but Vegas did not play him in a single game after the first round Jets series. They preferred the smothering defense that carrier provided. You know who he reminds me of? Dave Kingman. King Kong could belt some insanely long homers but contributed little else. Kessel is a fantastic interview and Kingman was a pure ass with reporters but both had a few fantastic skills but glaring deficiency everywhere else.
  6. Kessel deserves props for 400 lus goals, being one of the most abused and underappreciated players by the fans over the years and still working hard, earning those cups, not as a passenger but as a damn good post season player. My point is he literally took the first shift of a gameand then flew out leaving his team a man short for the entire game, just to keep his streak alive.I felt then and feel now that is tainted because of that.
  7. Charlotte is now Florida's farm club NOT Carolina. Carolina moved their AHL affiliate to Chicao a few years ago, even winning a Calder Trophy a year ago. As for Carolina prospects, it begins with Pyotr Kochetkov, the hot goalie who held the team together when both the NHL tenders got hurt at around the same time. Raanta and Andersen are both free agents and unlikely to return, Kochetkov now owns the net on a top tier team and should be a great fantasy asset and will be a solidgoalie behind a very underrated defense. Really, among their skaters i dont see a hell of a lot that is NHL caliber, the leading scorer was 28 year old Stromwall who will never be an NHL player. Max Lajoie is a 24 year old puck mover but deficient defensivley. Pomonarev may play middle six winger role, likely third line. Ryan Suzuki, the team is high on hm as a furure center but I look at him and see 4th liner, 3rd line at best. Jack Drury has failed in a couple of shots with the big club but has talent, may make it as a second line second power play winger, should stick next season and given every chance to claim a role. Jamisen Reese is a nasty piece of work and might stick as a 4th line center with grit and can occasionally sneak a goal in. So a great goalie prospect who has just signed a 4 year deal and a wide open net for him to claim, three or four guys who might make it as warm bodies in limited roles and Drury who might be a 2nd liner of the world breaks right. Honestly, not a lot of there there if you know what i mean.
  8. Man once you get on the coaching carousel you never get off, lol. Wow, the absolute prime opening given to a retread lol
  9. Lots of depth in free agent goalies Varlamov Fredrik Andersen Tristan jarry Adin Hill They are likely stuck with Elvis because of the bad contract but I would take any of the above if I could. Actually they have a very good nhl ready kid named danill tarasov who will be given every chance to steal the net leaving Elvis as a very overpriced backup.
  10. Merzlikens is not a winning goalie and is signed to a long term deal based off a hot half a year. It would be like the Kings signing career minor leaguer Copley to an 8 year deal based off what he did in 30 starts last year. There are half a dozen better options readily available.
  11. The Devils signed Damon Severson to an eight year 6.25 million dollar per year deal, (50 million total) and then traded him to the Jackets for a 3rd round pick. Severson was set to be an UFA in a very weak free agent class especially on the blueline so he was bound to break the bank, This is the second big bold move for the Jackets as they attempt to rebuild agressively as the SCF is still going on. First move was dealing a couple of picks for Ivan Provorov, Severson for a third and signed to a long term deal gives Columbus a top four of Zack Werenski, Provorov, Severson and top prospect David Jiricek, which is a damn fine top four. The bottom pair will be Rugged Erik Gudbranson and one of two top prospects, First rounder Denton Mateychuk or Corson Ceulemans. This is now a very deep, very talented defense, one of the best in the league. It also allows the CBJ to dangle Jake Bean and Adam Boqvist as well as Andrew Peake, all gifted young defenseman as they try to find a goalie and a top line center. I love the Jackets defense now, seriously think it is a playoff quality defense but goaltending is a gaping black hole and they lack a top line center. Look, i love Boone Jenner, he is one of my favorite players in the game but he is a jordan Stall type forced to play a 1C role because they dont have one. Roslovic ideally is a 3C, Jenner a 2C, they must find a number one center or the team is spinning their wheels, but i love the agressive moves rebuilding the defense, it is a matter of if they can do anything with Bean, Boqvist and Peake to fill the other glaring holes, something that i do like their chances of doing as again, it is a very weak defense class and columbus has some B level assets to move still.
  12. BS record, Kessel played a 30 second shift in a game against the wings and then left to attend the birth of his child leaving Coyotes a man short for an entire game showing that for Full Kessel individual records come before the team. Both he and yandle play/played such a soft game that there was little risk of injury.
  13. Last year quick/Peterson began the year as the leagues highest priced duo, both are gone both were putrid. I used to think Peterson would have a career, he is no longer young, he sucked in front of a slightly better than average kings defense, in Philly he may get killed.
  14. If the flyers are in true rebuild, getting rid of the contract is not a bad idea. Peterson has been God awful in LaLa Land, even getting buried in the ahl for the second half and his contract is rancid. IDK man, not sure from the flyers perspective why this makes sense. Love it for Columbus.
  15. He can coach, he controls the game on the ice like a master. Maybe this will be a kinder, gentler learned his lesson Babs in the locker room. Good hire imho
  16. 440 man games lost to injury. a lot of times a number like that is misleading because it includes time missed by mediocre players but the caps lost signicicant time from Oshie, tom wilson, Backstrom, Carlson, Mantha all missed tons of time. This is now an older team on their way down hill fast.
  17. that was the most beautiful hit i have seen in a long time, will be remembered for awhile. Totally clean, if they take that out of the game we may as well just go to non contact.
  18. lol, yeah, i was 7-1 in the first round but 0-3 so far in the second round. plus i had McDavid/Matthews in the finals in my preseason picks. Ugh. I imagine the powers that be are less than thrilled that the two East Coast teams that remain are small market. And a not out of the question Dallas V Carolina would be a ratings nightmare for the game. I guess it is proof that the fix isnt completely in, otherwise it would be the Rangers V Kings, lol
  19. I don't like it at all. You cannot fire 23 players so the coach gets whacked.
  20. Worst wings era ever, probert, Murphy, klima, chiasson, all the talent in the world but no heart. I still cringe thinking of what a fraud the team was.
