was not good. he really needs to stay away from fighting. kovy was swinging blindly and he should have been able to block or duck that one. caught him square on the jaw. would not be surprised to hear he's got some concussion symptoms again. not to mention... he just got totally schooled by a girl fighting kovy. that's just simply embarrassing.

Well, if they have the feeling that he won't be easy to resign, they should be trying to work out a new deal now. If that doesn't work, I would hope they would be trying to shop him before the TD. Though, I know that scenario is highly unlikely with this management.

I'm sure he did... But I think that any scenario of the flyers getting suter would involve letting carle go in one way or another. And in that light, it seems to be a minor upgrade at probably a much greater cost.

My guess would be that they've already had conversations with homey and he made it clear that those other guys aren't available.

well, maybe a lot of what you're missing is not on the scoresheet. shelley was in the lineup for the game when volchenkov was running around willy nilly hitting everybody, including briere. last time i checked, your tough guys are supposed to, at least, discourage that. and at best, answer the bell and tune the guy up. as it is.. shelley gets what? 3 min a night? he couldn't even pay the guy he was trying to fight to go with him. because, as mike rupp says, he's irrelevant. sestito actually goes to the net and takes shots on net when he's not banging bodies. i didn't see tootoo play his typical physical game last night. could be a number of factors why, but also could have had something to do with rinaldo toonses the driving cat on him. it's pretty clear that rinaldo and sestito offer way more than shelley does at this point. most likely, however, when briere comes back sestito goes back to minors.

Probably for the same reason the flyers lose to the winnepegs... Basically, they probably looked at that game as a night off. It's wrong, it shouldn't happen, but it does. Strong teams don't take the weaker ones as seriously in early feb games. That, and Tim Thomas was on the bench I believe.

Good point. It does show that even the best D men can make mistakes. If he did that here, though, he'd need to be traded ASAP!

He has looked better.... And it's about damn time, but as others have said... There's still room for improvement. I've been trying to take a more zen like approach in my thinking towards bryz lately. He's here for a long time... He's way overpaid, but we have to forget all that. If he can't get his sh!t worked out this year(for whatever reason... Media, etc.), then put bob in and hope bryz can sort it out over the summer. We can all reaccess next year. Point being.. He's simply not going anywhere for a long while, regardless of possible new buyout options or whatever.

First thing I learned in martial arts training was breathing excercizes. Never thought about it before in all of my years of sports, except for swimming. But, that was kinda automatically regulated by the need.

this sure does sound like blaming the refs. conversely, i saw the flyers get away with a LOT of stuff last night that very easily could have been called and wasn't. i have no complaints about the refs last night.

beauchemin is NOT a UFA after this season. He's been signed to a new 3 year contract past this season.

word on the street is that jvr and briere are close to returning. both were in regular practice jerseys yesterday... however, they both left before the contact drills. jagr is playing tonight.

i really like what he brings. when he doesn't cross the line, he can be a pretty effective 4th line player. unfortunately, as we've seen, the refs know his reputation and don't give him any of the benefit of the doubt. he's been penalized on some good hits. regardless... he certainly brings more to the table than shelley, so i'd sit shelley over him any day.

my evaluation sure did include special teams. go back and read it this time. goaltending i did not specifically... but they are a large part of the GA category which is so important. and obviously 5-5 includes the goalies.... even though it doesn't literally include them in the count. this analysis is certainly lumping goalies into the entire team play. they're kind of an x-factor. they are hard to factor as they get hot and can make a huge difference, ala tim thomas last year.... patrick roy on that canadiens team... etc. etc.

trade them bryz for carter and mason... mason would make a good bench warmer for bobo
