  1. Great post Brel...

Schenn looked great last night and was skating hard...  McGinn falt out stinks!  I know some on this board have a man-crush on him but he is not an everyday NHLer and last night he looked lost out there.  Great to get a point but work is to be done...  We still have 2 games in hand over the rangers correct?

Schenn is improving, but he's still a ways away from tapping his potential. It's been fun to watch him grow this season, but he's still prone to making some really rookie type mistakes out there. Some of his really bad turnovers resulted in mayhem in our zone where we were pinned in and had to ice the puck. Those have, more often than not, resulted in a goal or penalty. We got lucky last night. Still.. he's playing well, but in a few years.. this kid is gonna be a great player.

  2. The turnaround of this team is nothing short of amazing. We're definitely not as talented as the St.Louis and Bostons, but we hung in there with them and made them sweat. We can contend for the Stanley this year which is awesome. I'm not saying our chances are great, but we'll be in it and I think a lot of people will be surprised at how good this team actually is. We're playing playoff hockey now... which is always a good way to enter the playoffs.

  3. Honestly, I think the resolution is what it is now. I don't want more replays. Unless they are going to be used to overturn goals where the puck hits the netting or a player on the bench (Stupid SCF Game 1!)

i'm with you on that point AJ, it's just that as other's have said... when the puck ends up in the net and it's not obvious(even to the dense crowd), i wanna see a review.

  4. Everyone on this team is playing great.... dare I even say Luke Schenn!? I thought a bag of pucks was too much for him yay even a few weeks ago. Someone has seriously been working with him and whomever it is is doing a great job.

No worries, though, we could yet be saying 'Trade ALL the things!!!' after the next game. Let's hope not though.

  5. gonna be a tough game for sure. i don't buy into the 'trap game' theory at all. i think these players are taking it one game at a time. that being said, they are in the middle of a very tough schedule and they have been playing at a pretty consistently high level. even the best teams suffer from lapses in their 'A game'

  6. i thought it was a good call. I think, though, maybe we need to revisit the 'no review' rule. i mean.. why? why not review it? this is a change i'd like the league to look into. i think he got it right, but that was a pretty complex, fast, series of events and they might actually get it wrong more often than right in that kind of situation.

with the speed of the game such as it is, it would seem to make sense to allow the use of review with the discretion of the refs.

  7. Scott Cullen from TSN must not be a big fan of Steve Mason.  On 2 occasions, he has taken minor shots at the guy.

First in the Eastern Conferance Trade Deadline playbook:

The Plan: Like the Rangers, the Flyers are playing much better after a slow start; they have enough talent to make some noise, though blueline improvements wouldn't hurt.

Philadelphia made their bed in goal with Steve Mason, and could live to regret it, but signing him to an extension likely precludes a notable change in that spot.

Then in the Power Rankings where he has the Devils and Rangers ranked well ahead of the Flyers (Interesting):

    This Week17 Last Week16 Philadelphia Flyers 32-24-6

Sunday's rally at Washington gave the Flyers six wins in the past seven games, all of which would be great if their goaltending inspired any confidence. Since the beginning of December, G Steve Mason has a .901 save percentage, which is more in line with his pre-Philly days.

Not sure why, but these digs just annoyed me.

clearly he's numbers based and NOT watching the play of Steve Mason. If he was, he'd realize what a retard he is.

  8. Nice info, thanks!

The Pronger situation is exaggerated by his career ending injury. You've got to wonder how subsequent events change if that doesn't happen, at least so soon.

they also came very close to winning the cup with him. had they done that, we wouldn't give a rat's posterior region that we mortgaged the future. and it very nearly worked.

Lots of stats and analysis on Broad Street Hockey. some interesting fodder for discussion.

Special guest appearance by Matt Carle.

he's playing out of position... the conversation should end here. the Flyers... once again, have misused an asset and have proven their short-sightedness by signing another center when they knew they wanted to develop Schenn.

I still think he's being hampered by his back injury, but at any rate... if we need a scoring winger who can play PP min... Simon Gagne says hello(waiting by his phone for the flyers to call)

  10. Frequently the whipping boy this season, and for good reason, he is really starting to turn his game around. I wasn't too too familiar with him from the Isles, so I never really knew what to think of that deal. Of course, the deal still seems to be a bad one for the term and money, but that being what it is... he finally seems to be providing what was advertised.

I gotta say, I'm very impressed with him in the last few games... I just hope he can play consistently like this. Do you think we can chalk up a very slow start to a change in scenery? or is he just a streaky player with prolonged dips in play?

  11. hey @Howie58 ... how's the wine flowin?

i gotta say.. i'm very impressed with how they're playing right now. it seems they are mostly on the same page finally. if you watched a game from earlier in the season and then any game from this roadtrip, one very striking thing is how cohesive they are now. it's the little things.. the passes are tape to tape. sure, they still have some D breakdowns that result in a lot of 'running' around. but, i guess what team doesn't?

i dunno if it's coincidence or that Berube is really doing a great job, but the product on the ice is 10x's what it was in october, that is for sure. we're IN every game now.

  12. for me... Stone Cold Steve Mason has been the bright spot of the entire season. i'll give a close second to Raffl. game in and game out... mason has really been solid for us and it really feels good to have a goalie you can count on.

sure, in the colorado game, he maybe let one in that he'd like back, but he was up against one of the top goalies in the league and was playing up to par with him most of the game. he's making the big stops that we need. this season would have been 'over' already if it weren't for him.

  13. @Bakanekimiwa

The funny thing is....he wasn't starting any ****.  He was just standing there waiting for his turn at the urinal not saying a word to anyone.

I guess you could call it clever and maybe if the guy was starting something my opinion would've been different, but since the guy was just standing there well I have to disagree.  I think it is things like this that give us the bad rap.

Once leaving a game with a bunch of friends some Devils fans (who we lost to) started some stuff in the parking lot.  The friends went back at them and some pushing and shoving ensued.  The Devils fan thought better of it and left, it was still quite crowded and I'm sure a lot of Flyers fans would've jumped in if it came to blows.  That I can live with....

ohh.. then i misunderstood you. i thought you were saying that the rangers fan was giving crap to the guy pissing. and the guy pissing peed on him. if he just peed on a random rangers fan.. then totally not cool.

  14. Young? Needs time to develop? Don't be impatient?

    James vanRiemsdyk says "hello"

More bitching and moaning about a young, developing player you will not have heard in a looooooong time.

this is kinda confusingly stated, so forgive me if i misunderstand you here. but, i gather the gist of your message is that we're being shortsighted and whiney here in this thread. i disagree. i mean.. if you applied that accusation to most things on this site, you'd be right a vast majority of the time. however, Luke Schenn is regressing in his development.

this 'kid' is making very very basic mistakes. when he should take the man, he doesn't. when he shouldn't, he does. he doesn't take away passing lanes and continually misses his assignments. he keeps 2 hands on the stick to such an extreme that he's not utilizing any reach. he routinely screens out mason and, even worse, has deflected more goals into our own net that i can remember a D man doing in a long time.

i've keyed on Luke several times this year because, to me, he's been a glaring weakness on defense. i can remember about 2 or 3 games where he played an overall solid game. on too many occasions he's put himself into limbo land where he is essentially not doing anything.

we could go into all the numbers line by line, but i think that you'll find the same thing i did... his overall numbers are in a real decline. sure, we could argue ice time as a major factor in that too, but why do you think his ice time is down? because the flyers actually see what we're seeing here in this thread.

Luke Schenn is a bust... right here, right now. i'm not gonna play clairvoyant and suppose that he cannot rebound, being that is only 25 y/o, but at a $3.6m cap hit i think we can agree on one thing... HE IS A PROBLEM. He's in his 6th full nhl season now... i think we can drop 'developing' and recognize him for what he is now.

  15. I was at a game once and my boyfriend went to the men's room and told me this story......

There was a Flyers fan peeing and a fan from the other team (I think it was the Rangers) standing behind him in his offending jersey....the guy just turned around and started peeing on him.  I was shocked!!!  I think it sucks that you would treat another human being that way.....even if he is a Rangers fan.....

Some fun ribbing, some minor trash talk is fine, but that.....well......

in this particular case, i'm of the opinion that the ranger's fan had what was coming to him. if you are going to start **** with anyone,  then you should accept the possibility that there will be consequences of that ****. it was non-violent, so i actually think it was quite clever of the offender.

  16. Said a thousand ti. E's and will say it again. Bad teams play in inconsistently. I expect this is gonna be the case for the entire season. The are a. 500 team in a terrible division...

they are 'NOT EVEN' a .500 team in a terrible CONFERENCE.

    there.. FTFY.

  17. the thing i did notice is that when he went down, he stayed down. if he dropped to his knees.. he just tried to shuffle about if there was a further pass play. i dunno if he was fatigued or if he's injured or simply just sick of all the **** breakdowns in front of him. but, yah.. he has not look good here for the last little while.
