  1. He just happened to switch to looping underhands as he circled to where it would hit him in the nuts?

Come on man. Even every other pens fan embarassingly admit he was going for the nuts. Its not like it is the only time. I.E His spearing Moore in the nuts intentionally.

I remember when Valabik was signed to the pens shortly after. Every Pens fan was wondering how awkward Crosby was going to be when welcoming him to the team after the sack shot.

People out of control swing at anything and everything they can reach. Doesnt minimize responsibility. just dont believe his brain was putting 2+2 at that time. I've seen or been in a lot of brawls in my line of work, and people out of control do that. It is what it is. Not a shining mark on Crosby's history regardless. But it was a long time ago and irrelevant to what he does now. We see worse every season.

  2. I can't believe you are actually trying to say he was not aiming at the nuts. You don't throw looping underhand punches at that angle to slam a guy in the buttcheek.

Every single sports analyst and website and major news agreed he was aiming for the gonads after he threw the rabbit (Donkey)punch.

I think you are ONLY person I have ever seen say he was not trying to punch him in the nuts. Every other pens fan I have ever talked to even agreed that is what he was doing.

I don't think he's trying to pick his spot. I think he's WAY to out of control for that and just punching at whatever he can hit at that point. I think saying he's in control enough to be trying to do anything but is giving him more credit than he deserves at that point.

  3. Nah dude. That was the balls and cup he was aiming for. Even if one glanced off the buttcheek. After he threw a Bertuzzi punch to the back of the head with his glove on. Good thing he didn't land wrong eh? Or someone might be suing Crosby for his net worth

I really need you to come help me at work.  You're obviously a certified expert on intent, and I could use that in a lot of court cases when we have to testify as to what the defendant meant to do even when they weren't able to do it.  ;)

Watch the video again.  He's out of control throwing punches.  Valabik takes on square in the ass cheek.  As for the Bertuzzi comment, there's a difference there that you're too intelligent not to see.

  4. Yeah, that Crosby multiple obvious ball shot might have been a suspension for another player

No, punching another player in the balls from behind tops it. Not to mention he was sober when he did it. Ok, even if he was drunk....

Once again I'd like to point out... Crosby punched him in the arse.. not the balls.  So maybe he and Giroux are more alike than any of us ever realized?

Funny thing though all this talk about G being drunk and what have you...  don't they say your true self comes out then?   ;)

  5. Downie will never sniff the day of Crosby's jock strap. From a Flyers fan you should take that with the utmost complement and insult.

They used to say that about Dupuis too.  I know he won't be a fixture on Sid's line, but it would be funny to see the Wells Fargo center go nuts about it.   LOL

  6. @Polaris922

Haha, I'd already edited my post regarding defencemens worth (and Nashvilles eternal lack of an elite forward). For a guy who used to argue Letang vs Weber you've really come around when it's Giroux vs Weber. (and there's no way in hell I'd trade Giroux for Letang)

If a gm thinks something would help his team win and spite prevents him from doing it, he should be fired. And in spite of several offer sheets by many different teams over the years, there's still not a single gm who's acted out of spite. Not one.

I've never argued that Weber is the better OVERALL defenseman.  I just think Letang's skating makes him better at transitioning and offense.  My point about the spite issue is simply that Poile could approach any number of teams in the league for star power in exchange for Weber.  I find it hard to believe Philly would be his preference since Holmgren put him in the position he's in.  I can agree with the position to help his team firing and all that... I just don't think exchanging Weber for Giroux helps his team.  I think it hurts it.

  7. Giroux just came 3rd in Hart voting. I think his value is equal. Giroux isn't our cornerstone?

I'm not saying it should or would happen (and him being drunk has zero effect on it) but Claude Giroux is every bit as valuable as Shea Weber, and vice versa.

I disagree.  For several reasons.  Weber was the only real star talent on the team last year.  The franchise based their promise to their fans on signing him to ludicrous cash defending against Holmgren's power play for Weber.  They really put him as the cornerstone of all they're trying to do on the ice and in marketing.  They tout him as the mentor for Jones.  And you and I both know how hard it is to find a defenseman who can actually play the position of defense AND be such an offensive threat.  He's got everything you want in a defenseman.  And they're just harder to come by than star forwards.  Not knocking Giroux's talent, but you can buy free agent forwards that can compliment any line up front.  Defensemen are a tougher find and tend to be exposed more on their own.

On top of all that, Poile could probably have his choice in all but a few of the top forwards in the league in exchange for Weber.  Trading him to the team that forced you to pay him so much in the first place would be against most of our natures, business or not.  Spite has to factor in at some level as well.  It's not THE factor, but it counts.

  8. @Vanflyer

I dunno what Nashville would take for him to be honest.  They sort of sold their entire fan base on the "We're not giving up our number one guy for anything" when they spent the money.

As for making doors...  All of the butt end jokes got me to thinking in the middle of the night, and work was kinda slow....

  9.  Let's see....Cooke and Neal are in the west, so the Pens rarely see them, and Downie is on their own team...ya, they're pretty safe from cheapshots.  :)

Hartnell is in Columbus now, Pronger still out, Briere moved along to the West...  but there's still RInaldo and Rosehill to think of...  you're not out of the race yet!

Interesting thing is.. under Tocchet...  Downie had a 22 goal season in Tampa.  I still despise the guy, but it will be funny watching him victimize the Flyers' lineup with his cheap shots and then score a goal on a feed from Crosby.   Seriously though.. I think if he isn't squared away he'll be out fast.

  10. Yes, well, I think Claude has learned his lesson....

Copping a feel is one thing......

    Feeling a cop?

Well, now, that is something else entirely and it will get you the front page for the wrong reasons, make it necessary to issue an apology to the team, and generate dozens upon dozens of threads on forums the inter-web wide about your antics.

In short, he won't ever hear the.........end of it....

Speaking of 'the end of it".. look what i made...

  11. yes to all of the above. Particularly the flyers drove the price up with the offer sheet. It would be bittersweet to see that deal, but not unfathomable. If said deal was to go down, both teams win- just change their dynamics.

I disagree.  I think the Flyers win that trade.  Again Giroux is a great player, but Weber is a rare breed of defenseman, and much harder to come by with a much bigger role on his team.  I know it's purely subjective, but if I'm Nashville it takes more than Giroux straight up.

  12. @Vanflyer

I was incorrect in thinking Weber's cap hit was higher. The big numbers were his bonuses. It's still not happening. Weber is their cornerstone. They just gave him $24 million in bonuses BECAUSE of the Flyers right? And Giroux is a great talent, but Weber is more vital to the Preds than Giroux would be. Both as a player and as a marketing point.

Add this one to the never ending we want Weber bullsharts...

  13. Steve Downie on protecting Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin: "I can guarantee there won't be any liberties on those players this year."—

Downie: "Whatever team I've played on, I like to go out my way to stick up for my teammates. Every team needs a couple guys like that."—

  14. Ok, you two need to knock it off, otherwise punishments will arise that will en-TAIL you two to END up banned for har-ASS-ing each other, and HF will be miffed two of his best posters would stoop to such BOTTOM feeding humor just to get BACK at each other..........

    In the words of Giroux...

    I couldn't help myself. And I'm sorry.

  15. Have fun kissing Crosby's behind there in the Steel city Christian. You will miss Buffalo very fast

Are you drunk? He'll miss losing? He'll miss not making the playoffs? By the time Buffalo has a shot again he'll be retired. He took a $4 million contract to win and try for it all. I don't think he'll be missing Buffalo one bit.

  16. yeah, so we call him Neal light and cheaper?? WTF is Rutherford thinking on this move (other than money). Crap, at least Neal can score.

I have to think this has Tocchet's name all over it. As TFG said the only good games in Downie's career are under Tocchet.
