  1. i watched last night's rangers / blue jacket game with a friend who s a die-hard rangers fan. he was amazed we let BOB go; in fact, he spent most of the game laughing at me. if you think about it, it is funny: we wait decades for a young franchise goalie and then when we finally have one, we trade him. one of the many reasons this organization is a joke (no vision from the top, no patience, no ability to find / develop talent, Gomer, are other reasons)
  2. gotcha i appreciate your optimism; mine was sucked from me by Gomer and his band of fools. i hate to say i forecast this, but i have been predicting doom for two years now when i realized that Gomer has no idea how to operate with a hard salary cap. as i said before, the flyers brass should be using the st louis cards and ne patriots as paradigms for how to run an organization: value / cherish draft picks, find players who fit your "system," and develop your own! instead, Gomer frivolously tosses away draft picks, he has no idea how to judge talent - and, sadly, that includes those on his own team, and the organization doesn't have the foggiest idea of the type of "system" it wants to implement. as you said, "saddle up boys" - it is going to be a long couple of years.
  3. with all due respect, rad, the title of the post implies that you think the team is not that bad. and, your conditional statement: "If they are better than they are playing - and for the record I believe they are - they have a good chance to pull themselves out of it over the next month." explicitly states that you still believe in this team. i just dont get it. i have been a flyer fan for many, many years and this is one of the worst teams i have ever seen: disorganized, passionless, talentless and dumb. my main argument is that the team, as it is presently constructed, s terrible - and not just based on the admittedly small sample of 14 games. rather, i am basing my judgment on 58 games, including last year's fine showing. i appreciate the faith you have in the flyers, but it is ill placed. admit it, Gomer assembled a miscast group that is clearly one of the worst teams in the league. (no caps)
  4. "PICK UP GROUND' LOL THEY ARE TERRIBLE. I ACTUALLY THINK BERUBE IS DOING THE RIGHT THING BY FOCUSING ON TEAM D - THEY ARE SERIOUSLY VOID OF TALENT AND HOCKEY IQ UP FRONT. THE ROSTER IS WHAT IT IS AND HAS BEEN FOR OVER 60 GAMES NOW - COUNTING LAST YEAR, WHICH WAS CLEARLY NOT AN ABERRATION. GOMER IS AN IDIOT AND HAS ASSEMBLED A TEAM OF THIRD-LINERS, GROSSLY MISCAST AS TOP 6 FORWARDS. FACE THE FACTS: THEY ARE SCORING 1.58 GOALS A GAME AND HAVE ONLY SCORED MORE THAN THREE GOALS TWICE. AND, LET'S NOT FORGET THAT LAST YEAR WE WERE TERRIBLE 5-ON-5. IT AMAZES ME THAT PEOPLE HERE THINK THEY ARE GOING TO "PICK UP GROUND" HOW? ON WHO? THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO ACQUIRE ANOTHER GOOD YOUNG PLAYER OR TWO THIS UPCOMING DRAFT. UNLESS GOMER TRADES THE PICK, OF COURSE.
  5. meltzer wrote the following today. couldnt agree more. sadly. Despite the assist, Giroux remains largely invisible on a game-in and game-out basis. Even more worrisome than the fact he has not scored a goal in the first 14 games is the lack of scoring chances he's been creating in the last few games for himself or linemates. Giroux does not even seem close to scoring a goal after an earlier stretch where he hit the post several times. The Giroux line often ends up hemmed deep into own zone. I cannot pretend to know the reason why the Flyers captain is struggling this badly, but it clear in watching him that his confidence has plummeted. Unfortunately, when Giroux has been noticeable this season, it has more often been for being part of a defensive breakdown than a scoring chance at the other end. The final minute of regulation was emblematic of this Flyers season to date. WHY THE HECK WAS GIROUX OUT THERE AT THE END, ANYWAY?????????
  6. It dawned on me tonight: this team has a low hockey IQ. Don't get me wrong, they have a lot of other problems, but we can all agree that they do so many stupid things out there, there must be no other explanation for it. Coburn has a brainlock every game, Giroux and his no look passes in his own zone while protecting a one goal lead, Read turning puck after puck over, Couturier passing across ice instead of simply banging it off the boards, on an on and on and on... This is a dumb team.
  7. WHAT VALUE? I love when announcers say how "smart" Read is (because he went to college) and how much potential Couturier has because he's only 20 (as if you start to hustle and learn to skate when you get "older"). Read is vastly over-rated, a decent third liner whom Holmgren has overpaid (SHOCKER); Couturier is such a bad skater, it's almost comical - like when he almost fell over trying to turn.
  8. "SENDING A MESSAGE TO BERUBE?" What message: WE ARE EVEN WORSE THAN YOU THOUGHT? The team just stinks. Stop making excuses, already, and see them for what they are: TERRIBLE.
  9. You talk about accountability. With about 2 minutes to go in the second period, Read turned the puck over at his own blueline as is his custom, followed by "Coots" feebly waving at a Devil to regain possession of the puck. For the next 45 seconds or so, the Devils had numerous quality scoring chances. If I were Berube, neither player would see the ice again. I am sick of watching the same mistakes and lack of hustle, game after game.
  10. To all you who want to keep he youth base, I need you to answer one question: why? i have been saying that for 2 years now. The idea that "coots" (ugh) is going to develop because he's only 20 and b schenn is destined for stardom because he's only 22 is laughable. There are plenty of players in the NHL who are outperforming them and are their age... or even younger. The bottom line is this: YOU DON'T NEED TO BE "OLD" TO PLAY HARD EVERY SHIFT and there are far too many games / shifts that both of them take off - and there is simply no excuse for it. Other than they are young, of course. PLEASE!
  11. Has anyone seen Giroux? Giroux might be my favorite flyer but he has been awful this year, after playing poorly last year. His game has stalled / regressed; the good news is his cap hit is only going to be 8 million per year. WOW. We are in big, big trouble. I would start the rebuild by trading him - no joke. Acquire as many draft picks and young prospects as you can and start over. And to those who say this is a "knee-jerk" reaction to what's happening this year, I can assure you it isn't. Look at G's play over the last 52 games: mediocre, not "best-player-on-the-planet."
  12. i think that we over-value young players in philly which leads to inevitable frustration. when people post that "coots" is "going to develop because he's only 20," i find that absurd. there are dozens of players in the nhl who are younger than "coots"- and many of them are performing at a higher level, and have more upside. "coots" isn't going to get faster or tougher. and then there's schenn - mr inconsistent.
  13. I think Berube is exactly who we need at this time - someone who will hold the team accountable. I love the demotion of Timonen from the first power play unit. As much as I respect Timo's toughness and heart, I couldn't watch him waste valuable power play seconds doing absolutely nothing with the puck at the point anymore. He was really a terrible power play quarterback the past few years, despite the team's successful pp percentage. Additionally, I could not believe it when i read that the Flyers started the season out of shape. How was that possible? I mean, really, how the heck was that possible? I was thrilled Berube recognized that and focused on getting them in shape. Having said that, I think Berube's hiring means trouble for L Schenn, Couturier and others....GREAT NEWS, as far as I am concerned.
  14. the team is seriously flawed and has been for over a year now. if we want the team blown up, it is based on more than a half seasons' work and not just 8 games. are you forgetting the teams' no show last year? If Gomer / Snider / Hextall don't realize that this is a rebuilding year, then the organization is in way worse shape than even the most pessimistic fan would say. Gomer is a moron and shouldn't be in charge of the rebuild, that much is abundantly obvious. Nevertheless, the team needs a serious makeover. A lot of people on this board and within the Flyer organization overvalued guys like Read, Giroux, L. Schenn, Couturier......and now they are paying for it.
  15. with harts and vinny coming back they will be a different team???? are you paul holmgren....or have you lost perspective because of all the KOOL-AID you consumed? they had "harts and vinny" in the lineup and they stunk.
  16. i laughed when i first read it and thought, "there's no way this is plausible." after a minute, I then thought, "the flyers might actually make this trade - Gomer is that inept." PLEASE TAKE GOMER'S KEYS AWAY!
  17. how do you know who every team asks for? you know somebody in the organization? if so, tell them Holmgren sucks. or, are you in the organization. if so, tell everybody Holmgren sucks. or, perhaps you have no idea what you are talking about. if so, Holmgren still sucks.
  18. i am so sick of the posts supporting this guy. he is slow, weak and not physical. bad combination if you ask me. also, everybody uses the fact that he's "only 20" as a crutch. there are dozens of players in the league younger than him who perform better. face it, he was a bad pick.
  19. be patient with Couturier? why, are the players in the NHL going to get slower and less physical? let's face it, he was a bad pick. and, to say "he's only 20" is a bit of wishful thinking - there are plenty of players in the NHL who are his age or younger,
  20. where's the "talent"? where? please don't say, Read, or either Schenn, or Couturier, or Hartnell; those guys are simply over-rated. then, there's the d....... when hall and rinaldo are your best players it's hard to say your team is "talented."
  21. Lavy was definitely part of the problem. The team clearly tuned him out and did NOT play hard for him over the last year. However, what I fault him most for, was his handling of Bob. Despicable. Having said that, Gomer is in way over his head and needs to go, too. He has no idea how to build a team and manage the cap. Blunder after blunder. Please take his keys away!!! I have posted my dislike for both during the past few years and got grief for being "negative." Well, to those who drank the kool-aid, what do you say now? The team is really, really bad - and not entertaining.
  22. I know these guys are young and hope to improve, but what have they done to merit contract extensions. Let these guys EARN a raise / extension before they are given one. This team has played with so much inconsistency and apathy that there is clearly a problem in the locker room - and the "core" is a large part of it. I know that Gomer has created cap chaos for himself but rewarding "potential" has doomed this team time and time again.
  23. his cap hit - which is what matters - is 3.1 million. and, like i said, he is NOT worth a cap hit of 3.1 million.
  24. I 'd like to see him show up on a consistent basis before I extend him. And, at what number? NO WAY IN THE WORLD HE IS WORTH 3 MIL PER YEAR. NO WAY!!!!!
