I really don't think they will find them in the draft.

I think they are going to have to trade for that dude who has already been drafted and a year or two away away and a team they will trade with will need a guy who they can plug and play now with.

Example that is what you trade a Konecny for IMHO.

Flyers would need to get up to #4 where the Blue Jackets are expected to pick (Lindstrom) for example.

I tell you want it is aggravating as hell to watch these same goddamn teams every year suck up all the good young talent in the top 5 every damn year and they never improve like the Ducks Sabres and Jackets for example.

They can certainly find a 1C in this draft. Lindstrom may be out of reach, but Catton is an offensive dynamo and is mocked from 7 to 11ish. The more I watch this kid, the more interested I am. Even Lindstrom has been mocked as low as 10...doubt he slips that far, but WAY better chance we draft our own 1C than acquire a veteran in a trade.

The issue is "don't pay for wingers".

Obviously there are exceptions, but the game is played down the middle and if you don't have a good C then all the W strength jn the world don't mean anything.

That's the primary talent the Flyers are missing. There's secondary talent missing as well, but they need to address the C position.

Thats why this trade deadline is so damn important! Secure enough draft capital and you can move up to secure your 1C. Starting to read some good stuff about the top Cs in the 5-8 range.

can you do that, specify a certain player…or did I miss the joke?

they say ignorance is bliss, not this time…one of these years I’ll learn me some contract / trade rules.

Legally...no. Pretty sure the wink nod goes on here.....after all, although no specific future prize has been settled on...they both know within reason...approximately what the future can be. That can be ballpark...picks, prospects, players.. cap space etc.

Not opposed, but I don't see Dallas trading away their captain while prepping for a hoped-for Cup run... :hocky:

If you're talking off-season, Konecny could be a good slot in for Pavelski in Dallas. 🤮

Of course, we might hope Walker is already gone by then... :hocky:

Make the trade future considerations, with Benn being the futures after the Cup run? Just spit balling.

Pardon me saying it for the hundredth time - 3-on-3 OT is a stupidass way to decide an NHL game. Toronto skated back to center ice 4 times. Just stupid. Flyers never touched the puck the entire OT.

Flyers showed some real strong character not letting Matthews have the last word tonight. Would’ve been easy to say “too good,” take the loss and move on to the stadium game.

That late line change came at an inopportune time, allowed the Leafs to gather momentum into the Flyers zone, leading to the winner.

    Yeah...3 on 3 is stupid.

Where does it say Konecny is asking for $10 million? I see a quote from a "team source" whatever that means, saying "it wouldn't shock me to see the Konecny camp ask in the high 10s",  which actually means Konecny hasn't said that at all.

I'm not against trading anyone on the team, for the right price. But this just sounds like click bait.

I admittedly rushed to judgement. Your take sounds reasonable.

I really think making decisions just because of age is a mistake. If TK is averaging 25-30 goals, and 45-60 pts a season for the next 5 years, is he worth the contract he wants?

This is a HORRIBLE take!! Age matters...A LOT!! Smart teams don't pay for declining years just because the front half of the deal supplies offense. You sound like a GM that knows he won't be employed when the suffering starts!!

  8. First I have heard of this TK and 9-10 mill a year NONSENSE!!  UM...NO. Not under any circumstances. Trade him...for even less than he is worth, because if we are typing about it...other GMs are talking about it. He has reduced his value significantly by coming out with these numbers. If he's not part of the solution *(rebuild) than he's part of the problem. Ship him out quick.

If the Flyers do not make at least 3 trades this deadline...I will not trust Briere and Jones. Lot of talk with no actual movement towards set goal... the Cup. I piss on this year's playoffs. Could care less. Great opportunity for the kids to get a taste of what it takes to win in the worlds best tournament....BUT NOT AT THE EXPENSE OF THIS REBUILD. STOP THE CYCLE OF MEDIOCRE HOCKEY.

I’m still pissed we passed up two dynamic players ,Caufield and Boldy to draft this plain vanilla defenseman. If Brink turns into a good goal scorer, then it softens the blow a little bit. York doesn’t really stand out at all, but he still has time to develop or if guys like Andrae and Zamula continue to improve ,then maybe York can be traded to move up in the draft or as part of another deal.

Wanted Caufield over York and was quite pissed when the pick was made. The pp QB who can't do what he was drafted for...brilliant.

  10. Alexi Kosolov on his way to the USA as soon as his KHL teams season (playoff run) is over! I'm assuming he will be assigned to the Phantoms once he arrives. IF he gets a decent amount of starts in the AHL this year...he could conceivably push for Flyers back up tender next season....although the most likely outcome is 2024-25 get acquainted with North America AHL stint...BUT he could force the issue by dominating pre season!! Let's hope!!

  11. Hopefully, its 5 games. The 1st game is a huge blow out for the opposition...the Leafs panic, seeing the playoffs slipping away and give up a 1st for a dman.

This would make the crosscheck the 2nd worst of the modern era for the Leafs. The 1st? Domi's cheap shot on Scott Niedermayer. Leafs never won another game in that series after Domi pulled that stunt.

It really shows the value in having somebody in a position of authority hold people like him to account at some point.

Mark Messier was a wild young man who cut a wide swath of partying across the NHL, particularly during his time in Edmonton, where stories from old cab drivers are legendary. When Messier was a rookie in the 1980 season, he was late to practice a few times, and finally just no-showed a team flight, so Glen Sather was pulling his hair out in frustration. Sather figured that some time riding the buses and hauling his own bags around as a member of the Houston Apollos in the CHL would straighten him out.

After a couple of weeks, Sather called up Al Rollins and asked how Messier was doing. Rollins told him the kid was terrific, was putting up points and was going to be a hell of a player... if he could learn to show up to the arena. Away from Edmonton, Messier ended up partying even more than he did before, so Sather recalled him, met him at the airport and made the 18-year old move in with his family until he felt the kid had done some growing up.

What a great story about Messier!

When the Oilers decided to rebuild after the 2010 season, I watched them eject every single veteran from the roster and traded core-aged players for draft picks with not a thought of who would play those minutes. The assumption, clearly, was that their new high draft choices would play.

They took Taylor Hall and pretty much gave him the keys to the city, the arena and whatever else he wanted. He mocked teammates who hustled in practice, was completely indifferent to playing a complete game and when injuries were taking a toll even told the team to dress one fewer player than try a single game at centre.

Tom Renney tried to hold Hall accountable with a benching and also tried to put a 160-lb Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on injured reserve, and was told he'd be fired at season's end, because the team was trying to sell hope. Hall didn't change, and RNH's shoulder was badly injured days later, requiring season-ending shoulder surgery, so any coach knew the price that would be paid for trying to take him in hand. Anybody on the team who spoke out about these things or expressed frustration was traded. In the case of David Perron, it was by the next morning. Hall's attitude away from the arena continued to get worse, and he was known to stiff bars for drinks and bully people in public.

This had the effect that you might think: the dressing room was divided between Hall's friends, who also put in a similar effort, and those who were sick of it. Hall was finally given away to the Devils for Adam Larsson who was a very good defensive d-man, but hardly the return you would want. Oscar Klefbom stated that just getting Hall off the roster was addition by subtraction.

Anyway... This isn't to crap on Taylor Hall, but to say that I agree with you; that it's a terrible idea to coddle young players - anybody, really. People should be required to earn what they get in this world and not have it handed to them.

Here's a good clip, by the way:

Hall was out of control in Windsor also. I suspect it started way before the OHL. Really frustrating, because if he was a decent human being and dedicated to honing his skills, he could have been amazing...even HOF material...but alas, hes a selfish, entitled prick that wasted his God given talent.

I am now a Grand Master. From this point forward I prefer to be addressed in this manner, “GrandMaster Coach”, “Grandmaster X”, or just “GCX”

now that I have reached this powerful status, i will use my power to influence DB to trade Scott Laughton, just so I can say, “I told you so” to all you haters.

you may now go back to paying attention to anything else, which is more important then my useless drivel

    Yeah........ I dunno, man.

Toumaala is getting 0.8 ppg in the AHL, which an NHLE of 32 points. At the same age, Zegras was a 65 point producer in the NHL. I'm  not really a huge backer of Zegras, given his lack of desire to play defense, but Samu would need to deliver an amazing two-way game to top that.

I'm going with late bloomer combined with culture shock hurdle...there is stuff in that package.

He's a right winger though and when you consider that Foerster is playing on his off wing, Brink is in the AHL and Konecny is the lead dog (right now), is there room for Tuomaala? Don't forget that Farabee is also a right winger as well. Plus there's Atkinson (who hopefully gets moved) and don't forget the incomparable Garnett Hathway!!!!

No room as we speak, but an injury or two and he could force his way on the team. He's got nice wheels and can snipe. He would have to play a well rounded game to stick with Torts though. If he continues on this current path, cream rises to the top. He does seem suited for a top 6 role though...which would really limit his chances. If I was him, I'd be working on tenacious play away from the puck...just to please Torts.
