jackhole
Anyone watching Shane Gostisbhere lead union past BC last night? Very impressive skater, smooth with puck movement and playing with a ton of confidence right now. What a breath of fresh air. He has everything that currently our D (outside of Timmo) doesn't have. Can't wait to see him in O & B!
flyercanuck
@jackholeHe's pretty small for an NHL defenceman. That scares the heck out of me. Well that, and the fact we have nothing better in our system.
jackhole
He is smallish, but he can really skate. His foot-work was what jumped out to me. He would just seemingly pop into space on the ice out of nowhere much like..... well.....a ghost. This kid can be successful in the NHL, and certainly should be able to make this team someday. flyercanuck
@jackhole Hope so. But guys like that (small defenceman) really stand out in a bad way come playoffs. He's ok for a pp qb type, but he's far from what our D needs to be built around. But hey, it's a start.
mojo1917
Two wordsBrian Rafalski. We got big guys get him a decent partner who will take the body and see what happens
mojo1917
How about this Ghostbehere and Nurse or Jones (not likely) as top pair in 2015 and beyond. That works all day for me.
flyercanuck
@mojo1917 Rafalski weighed 200 lbs. Gostibehere is listed at 160. I realize he has time to put weight on, but there's a big difference there.
mojo1917
@flyercanuckfrom what i've seen of him he can probably add 20 lbs to his frame with little effort, simply growing into his man weight, with some weight training and motivation he might be able to put an additional 10 lbs so he can maybe be a little more sturdy without losing his speed and quickness. that puts him at 190 so that's not too big of a stretch...well maybe a little but a guy can have hope right ? flyercanuck
@mojo1917 I hope the guy makes it. I mean it's about time the Flyers had a guy make it on D who was drafted and developed by them. It'd be just our luck the guy weighs 160.
BearOnIce
@jackholeHe's pretty small for an NHL defenceman. That scares the heck out of me. Well that, and the fact we have nothing better in our system. And the fact that we have Holmgren as our GM and there are core competency issues with his player evaluation and development. magnumpi
he'll be traded for a 34 yr old stop gap in a couple seasons
jammer2
Ghost is really light for a d-man, but like others have said, when he adds weight, his wheels will make him an NHL d-man. Plus, he's a smart d-man, very sound positioning, which will make up for the lack of weight a bit, but still nees to put on 25 at least, we'll see how that effects his speed, one of his best assets.
