King Knut
I mean yes, they won a cup because the guy had an amazing run, but this seems like a bit of an extreme reward for this guy's track record in recent years... like Lombardi is taking a page from the Homer playbook. 7 years? They guy's 32 now.

I think he's signing "his guys" and will likely ride into the sun with them in 4-5 years. Until then, he's got a nice looking team for a strong run ahead. I expect them to keep Kopitar when he comes up, too. Cup winning team with still nobody making over $7M for the next two years? Doesn't sound too Homercoaster to me. yave1964
over 2 million a year less than his previous deal. Long term security and wintering in LaLa Land instead of Minneapolis, the Kings may be regretting it by the end of the deal, but hey, they got a sniper for Kopitar tied up. MadDevil
I'd be a bit worried about those last couple years, but its an incredibly affordable deal that should help the Kings keep their key guys for the next few years.
notfondajane
First and foremost congrats on winning your 2nd Stanley cup! I think this is a good signing except for the length of the contract which would put him around 40 or so!
