BluPuk
"The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the team has acquired forward Taylor Beck from the Nashville Predators in exchange for forward Jamie Devane.Beck collected 16 points (8 goals, 8 assists) in 62 games with Nashville last season. The 24-year-old also skated in five playoff games, registering two penalty minutes. The St. Catharines, Ontario native was selected by Nashville in the third round (70th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft." Devane spent 39 games last season with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League and produced two assists. The 24-year-old Mississauga native was selected 68th overall in the third round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft. On the face of it, looks like a win for the Leafs. Not sure why Nashville would do thids deal. Looks like a decent pick up for us.

Not a super prospect but a kid who can play a little bit, given up on. I looked the story over several places and saw no draft pick involved. Curious. There has to be a story behind the story. Commander Clueless
Zzzzz Essentially. But at the same time, a solid minor deal for the Leafs. At the very worst, Beck is a much better AHL player than Devane. Likely a decent bottom sixer. I find it a little amusing that Team Shanahan is purging Burke's prospect pool faster than his NHL team. I'm wondering if ownership will put some emphasis on having some veteran leadership as well (so the kids can learn from some proven winners). Crosby had Lemieux and Roberts in Pittsburgh (briefly). Most rebuilding teams have some older guys around that set an example of what being a good pro hockey player is.
BluPuk
Hmmm. Yet another one year contract. I'm not sure where this is going, but at least it's interesting to follow.

Unless you're the Flyers, where the older guys (VLC, Umberger) are teaching the young guns how to suck.
